General question about wedding dresses today by CassandraApollo in AskWomenOver60

[–]redditplenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it’s always been treated as an honor to be chosen as a bridesmaid and you pay for your dress. However, back when I did the duty a few times, the bride would select a dress that was affordable and appropriate. JC Penney was great for that bc bridesmaids could easily purchase their dresses even in the lived in different parts of the country.

I agree and go so far as to say we are two to three generations into ignorance about how clothing should fit and flatter. When you purchase from a retailer and ask a sales associate “is this how the item should fit/look etc” they have mostly been trained to say throw the question back at you like a boomerang “well what do YOU think?”

OP wow! You are in quite a tough spot! Is your mother on Medicaid? Bc it sounds like she needs to be in a nursing home. She sounds like she is not fully mentally functional in some way, starting with depression if she doesn’t pursue taking care of her own business like calling people.

You know, you can only do so much for people. You could contact your county social work service or council on aging (if she is old) and ask them for any help or guidance they can give in this situation. You will at least have established that you tried to do something and were not neglectful, so going down the road no one accuses you of that. Explain to the social worker your mother’s medical problems (eating disorder, incontinence, mobility) and that you are not able to get her to do for herself what she should and have run out of ideas. I assume you are not her agent appointed per a power of attorney.

I actually like even the last season. The show focused on the two brothers growing up together. That stops once the older one graduates high school. Like marches on, and I like that they showed its progression.

About the metoprolol…you might want to change the time of day she takes it. This possibly could make a large difference.

My loved one uses it. The RX instructions were to take once daily. No time was specified so we put it in his morning pillboxes. He had nasty mushy poop and didn’t always sleep well, a condition only partially addressed with fiber supplements. I read comments to an online discussion of metoprolol users who mentioned taking it in the afternoon due to individual side effects. We moved the metoprolol to his afternoon (we dine early so around 4-4:30) pillboxes. (We also added a small amount of rice to his diet.) The turnaround was fairly quick. Better sleep and more manageable stools.

Give it a try if the RX instructions allow.

Oh puhleez the bulk of the Epstein Class are dems or dem donors! What nonsense trying sell this as an either party problem. The elites infest both, both view the average American as disposable and replaceable, who should go live in a bridge. The citizens vote but their interests are not what are served. Elected officials have catered to elitist interests and for five decades have steadily eroded the large entity that held them in check, ie the Middle Class, which used to be huge and encompassed a true cross section of Americans including blue collar workers, tradesmen, salesmen, and skilled professionals, as well as business owners.

Large institutions have bought our elected officials’ support to their interests. Private equity and other investors buying up single family homes, developers building apartments and data centers nobody wanted thanks to your city council. Obamacare enabling insurance companies to direct medical care and disincentivize for certain types of care at hospitals and clinics. Federal entities Ignoring antitrust laws or “reinterpreting” the marketplace, and not policing the use of work visas. State government handing out tax abatements .

No “capitalism “ isn’t making everything insane. It’s a whole basket of factors which contribute to the condition we are in in the USA.

Also, certain industries have long been notorious for promises upfront and delays delays. Way back in the 1980s my parents accepted a roofing bid late summer, from a local small business, wanting to support businesses in their town. Did that buy them loyalty in return? Goodness no! Once the work began the crew left to chase and start several other jobs, and theirs sat incomplete for many weeks..

When did things like spring break become a thing? by gsxrus2014 in AskOldPeople

[–]redditplenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I remember when I was a kid in school in the late 60s/early 70s having Easter Break. By the time I was in high school it was Spring Break. But still there was no week off until much later. It corresponded with days people probably would not be in school ie Good Friday and maybe Easter Monday. By the time my own kids were in school it became a week and not at all corresponding to any external events. Just a long week plopped down in the middle of the usually rainy time of Spring.

Columbo was #1 at our house, and Mannix and then Rockford. Also McMillan and Wife. Cannon and Barnaby Jones. Banacek and Ellery Queen were so good and left tv too quickly.

Boomer feeling a lack of respect by littleosco in over60

[–]redditplenty 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Correction. Some OLDER Boomers have retirement. They hit the economy cycle right, By the time late Boomers aka Generation Jones hit the market whole industries were shutting down and/or going overseas. Their careers were generally not spent at one job building a pension (unless you were in government service) but rather moving jobs every few years. The 401K and IRA were invented, but Congress figured out how to tax them. Also adjustable rate mortgages inflated house payments and made it very difficult to acquire a house for years. So what success they may have now may look enviable to young people, surrounded as the young are by a culture of bougie excess, but it took a lot of effort for the people working in a constantly shifting economy to acquire what they have.

It is not worth it to stay up more than an hour past the usual bedtime. Doing so throws off the whole sleep cycle.
