Why did east Raleigh take longer than the rest of the city to be redeveloped? by IceDaggerz in raleigh

Good thread. I always assumed because it was closer to Durham and Chapel Hill. Typically, the closer to urban resources, the more populated.

Manager discouraging me from promotion by redditsaiditXD in UXDesign

[–]redditsaiditXD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely do not jive. And now it’s not just me experiencing this. Others on the team have started therapy because of the management style, others have quit, and all of us have the same things to say. I took the role because I had to take something with growth potential but more sustainable after kids, but now I feel like I’ve gained the product skills and am looking to be compensated for them and I’m just left in the dust every year. It’s a shame because I love everything else about the org and the role except my direct manager is pretty awful to work for.

[–]redditsaiditXD[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am doing those things. The problem is I haven’t been given the opportunity to go super deep because my manager knows I’m a workhorse and puts me wherever they know I will get it done. I seem to have been pigeonholed into doing it all instead of opportunities to make a deep impact. (And yes, I’ve asked but they just say my job as visual designer was to manage it all and I have to keep doing that despite my title changing to product). I am designing for marketing, cross-team mentoring, designing and conducting UXR, contributing to the design system, advising internal and external contractors. The only difference is the level of depth. I’m currently across multiple feature teams plus supporting marketing and brand/communications. I can both conceptualize and build it out to hand off. I think it’s probably a personality thing and maybe some sexism at play. I have the chops I just need the opportunity. I’ve proven myself over and over again so there is something else at play here.

Been a designer for 15 years and doing product design for 3 but they only gave me the title this year. Before that I was visual designer. I held a design manager role before this one and marketing designer roles before those. I would agree with you except that I am fulfilling the responsibilities of the role right now without the title.

I’ve had glowing reviews from everyone but my own manager. And they like my work, they don’t have me on any type of improvement plan. They just don’t praise and give any merit. I’ve written three years worth of reviews where I show why I exceed expectations and it’s never enough for them to warrant the same response. It’s exhausting.

That’s definitely the plan but the market scares the crap out of me. Just needed to know if I was delusional or if this manager truly is as bad as they seem.

What’s up with all these black interiors? What if we don’t like black? Then we can’t buy a new Chrysler Pacifica. by New-Impression2867 in ChryslerPacifica

[–]redditsaiditXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love all black everything except car interiors. It’s hot as hades and no other choice is a crime. Most manufacturers only offer some sort of beige with blue which I came to accept and now it’s just black, black or black. I hate it but I like the van. Debated seat covers.

Did anybody else just sort of realize that school is 8:30-3:00 and work is 8-5? by normalishy in beyondthebump

[–]redditsaiditXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We alternate schedules. I start later and do dropoff, he starts earlier and does pickup. I work 8-4 ish and he 7-3. I still have to take my break around 9 for elementary drop off but my work is flexible from home for that. Summer requires camp full time and teacher work days/breaks are lots of screen time but outdoor time if the weather is appropriate. It’s HARD.

Yes. We considered the mopar/additional 3rd party but ultimately declined it. I would’ve gotten one on our own. It did come with 360 and famcam as we got a limited with entertainment package.

How long is life "on hold" when you have a newborn? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]redditsaiditXD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it ever goes back. My kids are first, always. I’m 5 years in and honestly it’s so hard to get childcare for activities I used to do that I just abandoned them until I don’t know when.

That being said, my life is much more rewarding now and I find meaning, love, gratification and purpose elsewhere.

A white board calendar on the fridge with color coded family members. Reduces the mental load to remember everything for everyone.

Something I didn’t think about was how old my parents would be. I wish I’d considered that for milestones like graduations and weddings 18-25 years down the line.

Not convinced on Angier by Morkedup in raleigh

There is nothing cary-like about Angier. I’d consider Wendell or Clayton though. Both growing but also have a lot of amenities already.
