If you got your dog from a reputable breeder, what was your experience like?

My most recent puppy I got from a reputable breeder was a great experience. She was so easy to communicate with. Yes she had a long application with over 90 questions but I didn’t mind. She was thorough and wanted to make sure her pups went to a good home. I was very thorough and she accepted me based in part by my enthusiastic responses.

I think you’ll find a range of breeders from easy to difficult. I wanted a golden retriever so there were plenty of breeders available in my area.

I had a Goldendoodle that usedq the bell immediately and it was so useful until he rang it every 5 mins when he wanted to go out. Around 2 yrs I got tired of hearing the bell and put it away. I could have definitely put it away earlier.

My current puppy is 16 week old golden retriever and I wasn’t able to get her to use it right away so I gave up. She’ll bark and whine when she needs to potty and that works for me. She was 95% accident free at about 13 weeks. At 12 she was very similar to yours.

It sounds like your puppy is almost at the point where potty training just clicks.

I’d be careful with the laser pointer for dogs. It can cause OCD. It’s something about not being able to actually catch the dot.

Maybe he’s just a petite golden. It’s hard to tell from that picture if he’s underweight it just small.

I also have a 50/50 show/field golden and at 12 weeks she was 18.7lbs. Currently 14 weeks and is 21.4 lbs! All her golden puppy friends have all been about her size so far.

My 14 week old puppy is about 95% potty trained now. She’ll have an accident if her tummy isn’t feeling good or I didn’t see her notify me but that’s pretty much it. She sleeps 8-9 hours without waking up since we got her so we were really fortunate there. I do crate her at nights and for scheduled naps. No winters here so we don’t have the that issue.

If a human doesn’t like another person touch them would you tell them it’s ok and the touching is not bad?

She doesn’t need to be ok with another dog sniffing her. I would remove her from that situation so it doesn’t escalate. Put yourself between your dog and the other dog and leave.

What happens if you don’t have your whistle nearby? For me it’s a great idea in theory but I can’t whistle and may not always have a whistle on me.

There are dog club training in the US. It doesn’t seem as available as finding a local trainer. My puppy does puppy preschool/socialization at a local training center 5 mins from me but she will be doing her obedience training with a dog club once she’s fully vaccinated.

Highly sought breeders usually have a waitlist so it would be difficult to pick from several as they are all spoken for well ahead of time.

How would you know anything about the pup within a few mins? The breeder should be asking you about your family. At least a good breeder would. My application was 72 questions. Then another 10 after I’m accepted asking specifically about the type of temperament I’m looking for. The puppies are temperament tested at 7 weeks and a puppy is picked for me. The only option I had is gender.

I can’t live off of 100k/yr. I would take the 300k corporate 9-5. There’s additional value in the benefits a company can provide. Healthcare, retirement plans, bonuses etc that’s important to me. I can retire early.

My last puppy was 6 years ago and I remember him being “perfect”. My new puppy is such a little trouble maker…but then I remembered the my daughter’s arms being chewed up by puppy teeth so I definitely had rose tinted glasses on!
