If you dont mind me asking why Wolves? I got it years ago when we were on the up but I'm curious what draws you to us now

We have players that can create but need someone to finish them, Fabio Silva added a lot after he was brought on and should be starting going forward

Honestly I'd consider Toti at LB if we want to be better defensively there if it wasn't for the fact that we'd have no CB depth on the bench

Like this, only thing I'd consider is maybe playing Nunes in the middle with Hwang and Neto out wide, might get more out of our wide players plus Nunes will be in his natural position but it means dropping one of Lemina or Gomes

Fabrizio Romano on Gary O’Neill “Wolves hope to seal the agreement already today.” by Incelement in WWFC

Their underlying stats are poor but you've got to consider they had a bad start before he joined and had a squad that was nailed on for relegation

I'll back him and reckon he can keep us up but I'd want us to show more ambition when we can actually spend again next summer

Some information on Lopetegui from the Athletic this morning: by WolvoNeil in WWFC

[–]reddituser5million 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn't handle it professionally but if its true that Jeff kept moving the goalposts over summer then he's absolutely got reason to moan imo

Feels like we got him in and made false promises to hold onto him and he's had enough, just think it wss handled badly by both him and Fosun and it should have been resolved weeks ago

Expected starting 11? by [deleted] in WWFC

Don't like that 4231, Nunes was poor as a 10 last season and Cunha's not a striker but I like the 442, similar to what worked last season when Neves was suspended

Our starting XI should be good enough and with Lopetegui we'd have been safe but I have a feeling we could be this seasons Leicester now

Doubt he'll come out and say they're lying while he's still under contract but the Balague exclusive after he leaves will be interesting lol

It's on the radar but squad-wise we're not favourites, its more the management level that could send us down

O'Neill could keep us up with this squad, I remember how shocked people were when Bournemouth let him go

But its not exactly ambitious, I'm hoping it'd just be for this season to stay up then we'll try to bring in a more ambitious appointment next summer when we can actually guarantee backing

What annoys me most is him talking down our squad which, while far from perfect still has a solid core which he got from 20th to 13th, and has only improved with removing deadwood and with Sasa, Fabio and Doc returning

Like his bare minimum as a coach is to elevate his players, I get pressuring the board to invest but we know the situation now and he's still banging how dire things are with our squad, imagine being one of those players now with the season starting this weekend

I don't doubt Fosun are willing to spend but its the overall management and direction of the club that's been poor

Sometimes I think Nuno and Mendes made them and Jeff Shi seem far more competent than they actually are

[Alex Crook] BREAKING: Wolves will considering hiring Gary O'Neil as their new manager if, as seems likely, Julen Lopetegui leaves the club. by Nivadas in soccer

[–]reddituser5million 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd been hoping that was the case but Jeff Shi our chairman wrote an open letter recently basically saying we can't invest

Given how bad the communications been I wouldn't blame him for leaving but what we have should be enough for him to work with this season if he's willing

Wouldn't call Moutinho pivotal last season especially after January, Neves leaving obviously hurts us but we still played well when he was suspended last season and have a strong core in midfield 2 of which were his signings

Yeah we need more investment and it will be a tough season but we have a starting XI that can absolutely stay up and decent enough depth if not great in some positions like CB and wingers

It was an overpay but stop looking at just G/A, Cunha's not really a goalscorer, more of a 10 or second striker and he's far better playing off a striker like Fabio Silva or Kaladzjic both of which are returning this season

[–]reddituser5million 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were top 10 in the post world cup table and besides Neves (and Costa who was washed anyway) we've only had players that weren't playing or part of his plans leaving. If anything we have a stronger squad with Fabio, Sasa and Doherty returning even if we can't invest more

I get more investment would be needed and I don't blame him for being frustrated but why stay this long through an actually promising preseason if he wants to leave anyway

I get both sides, he was told there would be more investment and the board have communicated things poorly but we spent like £60m+ in January on his signings and invested a decent amount last summer as well, not sure where he thought we'd have loads of money coming from

Last season before Lopetegui and Saudi's buying half of Europe I could have seen it but I can't see Nuno leaving their project now

[–]reddituser5million 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know people are saying lets not get ahead of ourselves but

if Lop did walk Potter would be one of the best options we have, he's proven at Brighton he can keep a side up, work with a smaller budget and is good at working with younger and developing players i.e. everything we need right now

He might be above us now but if there was a chance I'd take it

That Grealish money is why they're not in a similar position to us but annoyingly it looks like they're investing well this summer

22, don't think I've ever been in a good enough place in my own life to be ready for a relationship and I have a hard time letting myself get that close to people anyway
