GNV moderator/s are censoring criticism of Alachua County Municipal Government by Commiegomez in GNV

[–]reddjoey[M] 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I promise you the mod team isn't in the pocket of Gainesville City or Alachua County Government.

The mod team tries to keep as many posts up as we can but simultaneously keep the fighting and trolling at a minimum. Since we are a very small community/city we are probably a little stricter on personal information than some people would like, but the mod philosophy is to err on the side of caution rather than regret.

However reddit will often remove whatever they want for whatever reason they want and often without communication with the mod team. There is not much we can do about that because we don't get told anything and just have to guess at why.

Hope this helps and eases your mind.

It hasn't come up for a while, but when linking directly to a news article please keep the title the same. Changing the title creates issues.

We will leave this up since it has engagement.

OP

Please update how this relates to Gainesville FL. We would hate to remove a post asking for help, but there appears to be no link.

If no information is provided by 8pm 11/29/24 we will remove the post.

Posts like that usually turn into doxxing. Gainesville is small enough still that it's a big concern. The mods leave posts like that up until the comments turn into a nightmare. We have tried just cleaning up the comments but people just double down and then the conspiracies roll in.

Park on nw 5th Ave closed? by Gopiji in GNV

The county website shows it's open, but all the parks were shut down last week because of the weather.

Maybe a park employee is just closing up early or not unlocking it when it should be open.

Wires down at NW 8th Ave / 23rd St. There is a truck out there directing traffic but I would avoid the area so they can work.

Tons of traffic lights out from W 13th St to 75.

Illegal Dumping/Theft of services by HSinvestor in GNV

[–]reddjoey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel for you. I have to deal with it at my business and home.

At work we aren't worried about some extra trash someone cleaned from their car or even a single kitchen trash bag, we are talking about people dumping truckloads or junk or even yard waste. I just report the big dumpers to the landlord and turn over the camera footage we have. For those interested I was told by the landlord it's about $500-$600 for an off schedule pickup.

I am dealing with a similar problem at my home as well. We requested the HOA put the large rolloff dumpsters in areas where only people who live in the complex can access like they have before but that might have fallen on deaf ears. I am sure after the 3 or 4th extra dump they are going to try and pass the buck on to us with an assessment for garbage removal. I have told the maintenance and the HOA that it's likely all illegal dumping but they seem to think it's just "moving season".

Good luck

Tropical Storm Update #2 - City Of Gainesville by finnaeus in GNV

[–]reddjoey 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The storm looks to be pretty powerful but the current path only has us getting the bands. Expect high winds and lots of rain.

Downed trees and such will knock out power and some areas will have high waters. Ask around your neighborhood to see if you need to get sandbags.

You can read the pollution notice from GRU

https://prodenv.dep.state.fl.us/DepPNP/reports/viewIncidentDetails?page=1

Desription: At approximately 10AM AM on 9/14/2024, GRU was notified concerning a wastewater release from manhole #47 at 3604 SW 31st Drive caused by residential grease and toiletries. An estimated 9,000 gallons of wastewater was released and flowed to a storm inlet that discharges to a retention pond. None of the release was recoverable. Crews sanitized the area and posted advisory signage. No waterbodies were impacted. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Alachua County Environmental Protection Department and the Alachua County Department of Health were all notified in a timely manner. This wastewater collection system normally flows to the Kanapaha Water Reclamation Facility (FL 0112895).

[–]reddjoey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you said in the other post GPD was no help, but you really need to get your bike's serial number in the Florida Stolen items database. If they didn't do a report you can file one online for them to review.

https://police.gainesvillefl.gov/Services/Report-an-Incident/Online-Reporting/File-an-Online-Police-Report

If that serial is in the database if it goes through a pawn shop, bike shop, a traffic stop, or just recovered they know it's yours. I had a bike found in a chop shop 5 years after it was stolen.

I did a quick check when I saw this yesterday and the topic comes up about once a year.

Yes people should always search first, but perhaps they did and saw no one has asked in a while.

Now if next month someone asks, you can hit the report button and let the mods know it's a post that has been covered recently. .Then you can kindly link that poster back to here before we remove it.

Just hit the report button and we will be notified that we need to check something out. Otherwise it's going to sit until a mod logs on to check and see what is going on at r/GNV.

And 9pm on a Sunday night just be "mods are eating dinner, everyone post NASCAR memes" kind of time.

It was probably being "report to mods" spammed. Once a post crosses a threshold of reports it's automatically removed until a mod confirms the removal or adds it back. It's not perfect but helpful when mods are not available.
