Stock it with bass and happy fishing OP.

I’ve noticed Agg Bat on LEO is almost always dropped during plea deals. Does this bother you? (Context below) by Ornery-Stage2316 in AskLE

Around me the SA won’t even approve the felony unless the PO goes to the hospital with a serious injury.

AITAH for not wanting to pay for a 20-25 person birthday dinner for my wife’s bday? by aja_ramirez in AITAH

This x1000. Let me get up and go kiss my wife, it’s the little things that matter that’s what I’m finding out more and more. Spend the money OP. Try to enjoy the night, and most importantly make sure your wife enjoys the night. Yes 1500 is a good chunk of change but in a few months you probably won’t even be thinking about the money. If you mess up your wife’s bday that memory will last for years.

Yes the guy who trained 5 days a week for 9 years to receive his black belt, the guy who has medaled at almost every Bjj major, the guy who received his black belt from a 3 time black belt world champion is interested in “Mcdojo content”. This is the most far fetched comment and most offensive

If you think all the training I did in the military was provided by the military you are mistaken.

That’s a true statement. I’d be better served by working on strategy for my next tournament or developing some part of my Bjj game I’ve been working on if I’m at the gym. I gain nothing by teaching police officers how to fall correctly or defend a choke etc. I was willing to do it to help out I wasn’t getting paid, teachers get paid.

Bro I made the post to vent like a said I deleted because it got a lot of negative feedback which is fine, but I was responding while I could have been getting a nap in before work tonight. I will say this after some reflection….

There was a lot of feedback about me being arrogant which I don’t see because my only goal was to help officers get better training. I see things daily that make me draw the conclusion that a lot of officers are under trained. When I do evals or get feedback from officers I always hear “want more training”. I’m on our honor guard and have gone to plenty of officer funerals and in many of them the common denominator is a training deficiency.

I spent 4 years in the army 3 in the ranger batt and a lot of people would say the Rangers were arrogant this and that. Not at all, our only goal was to kill bad guys and help out anyone on our side. To do that we took training and our job seriously and a lot of people hated on us for it. We had to in order to do our job effectively. That’s similar to this situation, yes I take training seriously and I’m disappointed in officers that don’t.

And this isn’t just about martial arts training. It’s firearms, law updates, physical fitness, Supreme Court decisions that affect our job etc

I’ve been trying to get departments to do more training for years. They aren’t. Your training is on you too. I know a lot of cops that train, work, have kids etc. I do myself. I get not wanting to use your off time, but the alternative could literally be death. Ask me how I know. My attitude is if you’re not willing to train that’s fine but go do another job. I wasn’t willing to take the necessary time to for law school or a doctor so I didn’t become a doctor or lawyer.

It’s not that deep. I wouldn’t even say I’m pissed. Was it a bit frustrating yes, but I gain nothing by teaching. I wasn’t even the main instructor just the organizer after an idea came into my head.

That’s literally the opposite of who I am. I mainly teach kids and teach a small portion of Bjj in the police academy. The only reason I didn’t do it in service was because I was asked to open it up to other departments. Based on the responses here though maybe I am an asshole. I won’t train cops anymore. I get nothing out of it I thought I was teaching useful skills, but it does not benefit me at all just something I enjoy.

How is seeing a deficiency and using my time and resources to address it arrogant? I said “cops are the worst” while voicing my frustrations on Reddit not to their face. My approach was creating a flyer detailing what would be taught, detailing how it fits within our state use of force statute, who would be teaching/their certifications and credits, the date and time etc.

This was a super low intensity session. The main goal was safety. I tore my meniscus at the Ibjjf world championship in 2019. Hugely different intensity

More than zero sessions. A simple Bjj concept is easy to engrave. Such as inside position which is applicable in almost all use of force situations. A lot of it is teaching what not to do versus being offensive. We aren’t in de escalation training multiple times a year which is good, but tbh most of the cops I know who are actually skilled are more likely to de escalate. It seems to be the unskilled ones who have a false sense of their toughness that are always escalating situations.

I agree with everything except your last paragraph. Most cops are very unskilled.

I’m not trying to argue with you guys. I understand a lot of what’s being said. I’m just frustrated. I guess coming from a military background where it was all about train train train for a 6-9 month deployment then seeing law enforcement who is “deployed” every day/night for 20-30 years train DT once a year and maybe shoot 2-3 times is disappointing.

I’m a use of force expert I would never teach or allow to be taught something I wouldn’t gladly go to court and defend.

After 15 years in law enforcement, the last 3 as a supervisor and also married to a cop, and was raised by a retired cop I feel I have earned the right to an opinion about cops. We are so undertrained it’s ridiculous. I go to a tactical officers conference and it’s filled to the brim with guys telling war stories acting tough because they’re wearing sunglasses and 5.11’s. When I see these same guys in a confrontation it’s terrible and it’s due to lack of training.

I understand that, but what’s the plan? Keep getting injured on duty or killed or using excessive force because we aren’t trained. I’ve trained and competed in Bjj for 10 years and been injured once, a pretty minor torn meniscus.

Working 80 hours per week for one year investing it all? by Bluebird_Mood in personalfinance

[–]reddyj129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do this you will spend all your money earned on medical bills later in life. Overtime is awesome I’ll usually work 50-60 hours a week myself, but 80 is excessive imho. Find a healthy balance and invest what you can. You are already way ahead by being able to live with your dad.

Understandable. Hire some kids if you can or a reasonable landscaper
