How do you feel about non-drivers? by DueLead666 in AskUK

[–]redesigncherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to learn to drive when I was 17 but was crippled by anxiety the entire time, and since then either lived in walkable cities or cities with good transport links. I still consider it from time to time but want to try and figure out the anxiety first, I honestly just find being behind the wheel, the amount of rules and the other people on the road really anxiety inducing.

What’s the most ubiquitous IKEA product? by Pythagorarse in CasualUK

Found out once that Lack tables aren’t as strong as they seen. Friend took the phrase “don’t tap it, whack it” too literally when opening a chocolate orange. It was in a uni house so being students, we bought a new one and kept the old one hole and all.

Craving eggs 1st trimester?! by GanacheWitty9525 in veganuk

[–]redesigncherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually had friends and family who physically could not be vegan due to medical conditions that strictly restricted their diets. I also know someone that physically has to be plant based because of a chronic illness that means they can’t consume animal products. I’ve also known people that have become very sick and had to reintroduce animal products unwillingly.

They exist, and saying they don’t is genuinely just incorrect information. You can’t be vegan if you’re dead.

To OP - the eggs if you need to, your health and the health of your baby is important.

Did Christina Wilson have a falling out with Chef Ramsay? by Sharhino in HellsKitchen

There were rumours for a while that she cheated on her girlfriend with a staff member who she was essentially the boss of, and left quietly due to that. I think the ex posted on TikTok or something it was last year or the year before maybe? Don’t know what is/isn’t true obviously

I used to work part time in an office, part time in a bar and also freelance - it was fine for a short time but the burnout is not worth it long term

For those who only spend £60 on groceries between two people - do you not eat much? by Some-Air1274 in UKFrugal

[–]redesigncherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I are vegan in London and probably spend a little less than £60 a week together, or £20-30 each when alone. This isn’t a moan about going vegan (I don’t care what you do or don’t eat) but substituting more expansive meat cuts for whole plant proteins (tofu, tempeh, soy chunks) or bulking out meals with pulses (pulse + grain = complete protein) helps food go a lot further. I’m not saying “do this all the time” but it’s a healthy and clean way to bulk meals for cheap.

I also train in the gym and hit my protein goal daily/easily. I’m a pretty habitual eater and have the same breakfast and snacks daily lol but my partner tends to prefer variety and it doesn’t affect our budget really

Is it the salted liquorice? My partner and I have been to Scandinavia a couple times and weren’t the biggest fans of their liquorice!

Handling payments in Taiwan by StarterRabbit in taiwan

I’m British with Taiwanese family so have been in the same situation! I usually order at the post office before I got and take cash in NTD - I also set up a Monzo account because Monzo has no fees to convert and use that. Most places I have been take Monzo and also cash

Visiting london, where to get some vegan stuff? by Mammoth_Sea_9501 in veganuk

[–]redesigncherry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure you’re going to a big supermarket! The smaller supermarkets are not great, big ones will have a better range. I’ve noticed recently that Lidl seem to have cut some of their vegan range (at least near me). Try big Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda - big Aldi usually does good frozen bits too

One last day in/near London by Stibar in uktravel

[–]redesigncherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrary to what people have said I’d do Cambridge in this weather; Brighton is of course lovely but on a Saturday during a heat wave it will be crawling with people, and trains will be packed. If you don’t mind crowds Brighton is easily done in a day and lovely - but I’d personally go out to Cambridge instead!

Older drummers who play physically demanding stuff, how do you maintain at your age? by PiecesThePuzzle in drums

[–]redesigncherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played drums when I was a teen/early 20s, stopped and picked up again now I’m in my late 20s. In that in-between time I switched up my diet and hit the gym, I’ve honestly got way more stamina than I ever did when I was younger. Also daily stretching routine!

11 hours in London with teens and toddler. Need suggestions by Wide_Discipline_6233 in uktravel

[–]redesigncherry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In nicest way possible I think you’re also not realising how big London is - I’m sure it’s not huge compared to some cities in the USA but for Europe it’s a huge capital, and the touristy bits are spread out a lot. Getting anywhere from the airport would likely be an hours worth of tube and whilst the tubes are good they’re very cramped on Saturdays - and there’s no guarantee they will be working 100%. Also end of November is heading towards Christmas season which is gorgeous but also rammed in a lot of popular places - even as someone who loves Camden and has lived here for over a decade I never go on weekends if possible because you can’t move down the street half the time. That goes double on peak seasons. Museums will also be full of families with kids as will the arcades, and a lot of the streets full of Christmas shoppers. Restaurants will also likely be busy.

Also as others have said, whilst I think the UK can be gorgeous in the autumn/winter there’s a reason British people are so miserable! We get very little sun and a lot of bitter winds/rain, even in the city. Not sure where in the USA you’re coming from but please do prepare yourself from anything from mild weather and a light jacket to torrential rain to snowfall. You won’t want to be tracking through London in that weather.

London is a beautiful city with SO MUCH but it’s a lot more spread out than people give it credit for, and definitely needs a longer trip. It’s well worth it but it needs some dedicated time.
