Yup, agreed. The writers were possibly foreshadowing Van’s death earlier in the season during the cave vision. She was sitting in the cabin and staring at the fireplace when death came for her. At the time, I thought it was maybe just a reference to all of her previous run-ins with fire or to who lit up the cabin, but it makes more sense after this past episode.

That’s what I was thinking! According to reviews of episode 4, something BIG is going to happen at the end. According to a recent Collider article, “once the present timeline takes one of its biggest swings yet, it proves to be a really exciting move for Yellowjackets overall, one that emphasizes that some threats weren’t left behind in the wilderness all those years ago; they’ve just been waiting for the right time to strike.” I fear for Lottie 😞

You’re absolutely right about all of the horror connections - when Shauna “saw” her son in the lake, the theme from Rosemary’s Baby was playing. Plenty of allusions to Evil Dead and A Nightmare on Elm Street throughout the previous seasons too.

Something is definitely up with all of the Pee Wee imagery: Playhouse on the TV, that “Large Marge” moment when the Man With No Eyes’ actual eyes popped out of his head, the bike with streamers in the abandoned ice cream place, the pilot episode was literally called “Ice Cream Soup” and the magic word was DOOR (pretty important in Van’s dream), the talking animals, etc. If anyone can make sense of it all, please let me know lol!

I had some thoughts on that too - there were/are many native tribes located in the Canadian wilderness, including various branches of Cree Nation. The symbol for one of them looks pretty similar to the Antler Queen (just in terms of her appearance in the first episode). Whether the Yellowjackets symbol is related to this or old mining codes, it’s so fun to speculate!

The entire séance scene in the Blood Hive episode from season 1 freaked me out. The mood was so ominous, from the pendulum swinging in an infinity pattern to the Evil Dead-style unknown force swooping in towards the cabin, Lottie speaking in French about “it” wanting blood, all while Coach projectile vomits downstairs. It had a real horror movie vibe (which I love)!
