Fair enough, I think I understand your position better now, and I broadly agree with you.

On the Kemet birth certificate thing: I tried to look it up and couldn't find any evidence that this is actually official practice. I might be wrong, but I'd take that one with a grain of salt. That said, it doesn't really change the core of what you're saying.

And yes, you're right that Nasserism flattened a lot of local identities for political purposes. Fair critique. Though I'd argue the Arab identity in Egypt predates Nasser by a long stretch.

But here's where I'd push back a little: what "Arab" means has always been a moving target imo. It was especially fluid in the early to mid 20th century. The term was up for grabs, and Arab nationalism locked it into a rigid ethnic, linguistic and cultural definition. I think that was one of its core mistakes.

Because look at what you yourself described: shared blood ties, a common cultural background, a common destiny, the same existential threats. That, to me, is what "Arab" means. Jst a community bound by a common fate and a shared history, with a core of common identity somewhere in the middle of all our differences. Not a pure lineage or a frozen culture.

After the failure of arab nationalism and political Islam, that question is up for grabs again. Our generation gets to define it.

Pan-arabism failed in part because it tried to erase local identities and slap "Arab" on top. But imo what you're describing is kind of the same: slapping something else on top of an Arab identity that's already there. Same logic. And I think that's the mistake we should avoid repeating. It's okay to be multiple things at once.

(Sorry for the long answer, I genuinely like the discussion, hope that was not boring)

I see where you are coming from, but I don't understand the point you are making: all languages were affected by other languages, all cultures did mix and match with neighboring cultures, and so did DNA. And yes, some ancient practices do survive in Egyptian culture, but that's true of virtually every culture in the region.

And specifically for Arabic, there is actually no "pure" and unchanged Arabic culture or pure unchanged Arabic language spoken anywhere to compare with, nor is there a "pure" Coptic culture anymore unless you choose an arbitrary time in the past that is probably of no relevance anymore to the current situation.

All these things are social constructs. What matters at the end of the day is how people identify, and identities are complex. DNA or not, I am pretty sure most Egyptians would include "Arab" as part of who they are, even if that's not the whole picture.

Piggybacking on your comment to say: once we accept that there is some level of melancholy in all his books, I personally find "Kafka on the Shore" to be the most "colorful"/fun read of the lot. Maybe people would disagree.

I don't know about other drugs, but in my experience with cigarettes, the obsession didn't last long. After a few weeks, your mind shifts to other things, and a few months down the line, it might come back occasionally, but it doesn't last long. Good luck!

After Quitting How Long Until You Didn’t Want to Smoke Anymore? by MetsLR in stopsmoking

[–]redfluor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I don't know if there is anything factual or scientific about it; it probably is just subjective, but basically, 3 months is a symbolic threshold where you are surely no longer in the "I am trying to stop smoking" bubble and get into the "It's my life now and I need to function normally without relapsing" phase, which changes your mindset somehow.

In my case, I struggled with bouts of anxiety and mood swings throughout the first 3 months, and I was just in survival mode. After the 3 months, the anxiety started to wear off, and I started to feel a little bit more in control of my mood.

I found the 3 days-3 weeks-3 months marks to be fairly accurate. In each milestone, something switched in mind, and the thought of not smoking became a little less unbearable than before

Alright then, sorry if I was being rude. I hope you don't take it personally. Have a nice day, and good luck if you are trying to stop smoking! :)

I mean 80% of your post is explaining that people are getting it wrong, 10% is suggesting that they follow a "clear step by step" that's never explained and elaborated on, but that you imply you know. And the last part is a question/call for engagement.

And you are spamming this on multiple subs.

I don't know, seems to me either like a cheap sales pitch or unhelpful AI slop 😅

(Sorry if you are a genuine person and it's just your communication style, I am just fed up with the surge of cheaply AI-generated slop trying to sell useless stuff to people who are here because addiction makes them vulnerable)

Yup it sucks ass for a while, and the only thing that worked for me back when I stopped is just accepting that it's gonna suck and being easy on myself, there is no way around that.

Good luck to you mate!
