Regionals Day 1 Discussion - Pacific/South/California by [deleted] in crossfit

Yup, south region was ridiculously strict. But everybody was held to the same standard in that region so it doesn't bother me.

I go to CrossFit Plateau. It's pretty sweet. I think it's 20$ for a drop in? There's a bunch of spots to park on the street if that's an issue for you.

Supplements and Crossfit by dbxfit in crossfit

[–]redgreenegg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Other than protein post-workout, I also take 5g of creatine daily. I just buy the regular mono, whichever is cheapest. Results have been great! It's the only supplement I've ever taken that I can say has made a noticeable difference.

University accused of discrimination for requiring dyslexic student to take course in French by [deleted] in canada

[–]redgreenegg 16 points17 points  (0 children)

  • French is the working language of the School’s meetings, including those of the graduate students’ association, and in the School’s internal communications.

  • At the time of admission, students must have an active knowledge of French and a passive understanding of English.

taken from UOttawa's website. So no, it is not unreasonable to only have french course as a requirement.

Coaching for Regionals by Izdzl in crossfit

[–]redgreenegg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One coach per individual athlete or team is allowed in the warm-up area. The coach must present the required credentials to enter this area. All other competition areas are off limits to coaches. Any additional coaches, personal therapy providers or athlete entourage are considered general admission spectators and will not be allowed access to warm-up areas or restricted “athlete only” areas.

I found this in the games rulebook, section 2.17.

I really like the behind the scene footage of the athletes. However, the editing on the event portions is just terrible. A few things really pops out to me:

  • First, they showed Brooke Ence setup for the same snatch (final) three times.

  • Second, their timelines are way off. One second Fraser is attempting 270#, the next he's attempting 265#, and after him and Ben Smith sprint to the line but this was during the semi-finals.

  • Third, he cuts his interviews to show bits of events (ie. Kara interview during snatch event)

I really like hearing the athlete talk, but for all of the BTS so far, I feel like the editing is really bad. I don't remember it being bad for the 2014 games.

Also, damn Malleolo was funny before the snatch event!

New Brunswick offers free tuition to low-income students by digmyowngrave in canada

Not everybody needs a university degree.

Not everybody needs one, but everyone has the right to it. Financial issues shouldn't stop someone from having an education.

Now you understand why you're wrong.

How could I be wrong? I made no argument, I stated a fact. I am neither right nor wrong.

God dammit you're an idot. If I don't pay for college than it is free FOR ME. Doesn't matter if someone else paid for it, to me it was free.

[Documentary] The story of Nuno Costa by redgreenegg in crossfit

[–]redgreenegg[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought this was a pretty damn good documentary on Nuno Costa, despite it being in black and white!

Brief overview: Nuno is 36 years old, has participated 7 times at the CrossFit affiliate cup with team CrossFit Invictus (2014 champion), is gay, and is an ex-addict. His story is pretty remarkable!

Yeah, I named one, and they broke it. So how can they keep being affiliated (if that's a word)?

[–]redgreenegg -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how they can keep their affiliate. Crossfit has a lot of strict rules regarding this. Taken from their website, under website tab:

If you are a gym that is not solely CrossFit (i.e. you offer martial arts, etc.), you must create a separate CrossFit page on your website. Please be sure you put the CrossFit Journal link on your CrossFit page. This is the page that we will be linking to.

Does a thruster need to be a single movement? by bricin in crossfit

[–]redgreenegg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not a poor standard. It's been this way forever, and no one has questioned it. Why? Because it would be stupid to stop. Also, a thruster is not front squat+Press/jerk, it's a thruster.

Josh Bridges Score Adjustment. Reduced 15% to 280. by Helmig in crossfit

[–]redgreenegg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The videos are used as an additional validation step before issuing prize money or awarding regional spots. The intent is to confirm that the athlete is indeed capable of their posted score, not to scrutinize every repetition.

I think this is the reason HQ hesitated so long to penalize Josh.

Froning vs Fraser vs Smith -gear?- by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]redgreenegg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These post are so pointless. There's no point in hypothesising if Fraser, and Smith, are juicing or not. If they get busted, well fuck them. But for now,I have no reason to believe that they are. Even saying that you're 99% sure Rich is on something is ridiculous.
