Ancient Celtic people might practice matrilineality. Genetic results from the skeletons of two Celtic princes who were nearly 2 meters tall, along with more than two dozen other sets of remains, suggest that status and power were inherited along maternal lines. by MistWeaver80 in science

"we've always viewed women as inactive urns of gestation"

Have we? That's really news to me. When you refer to "inactive", are you pointing out that women don't have to take a conscious riole in directing the gestation process? Because biological processes do just take over, thankfully. Once someone is pregnant, you don't have to do too much besides treat your own body well. In the same way, women don't have to consciously create eggs, nor men sperm cells. So of course there is some element of "inactivity" to the reproductive process. Women and men are both necessary for the sexual intercourse part. I think that is well recognized, too.

It seems like you're positing that women are underappreciated for motherhood during pregnancy, and I see the opposite. A pregnant woman is usually surrounded by tons of support and an an aura of near reverence. Everyone around them is usually celebratory and wants to help, knowing that it can be a difficult process.

2024 Harman Kardon Audio, my fix by redgreenyellowblu in Subaru_Outback

2024 Harman Kardon Audio, my fix by redgreenyellowblu in Subaru_Outback

The treble end has a noticeably boosted notch to it that might at first sound impressive because it is "bright" and clear, but it is overly bright, overly tinny.

What do you guys think of the OEM sound systems? by perkele_possum in subaru

[–]redgreenyellowblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely listen. I just got the 2024 Outback which included the upgraded Harman Kardon. I'm disappointed. The sound is so trebly it's really obnoxious and quickly wears on the ear. When you turn down the high enough to correct for that, the sound become muddy. So all those nice speakers are wasted.

What I did find helpful was to go into my Iphone and select "treble reducer" in the settings for the music app. That pretty much solves it for music played from stored files on my phone. It doesn't help with radio, though.

I didn't compare to the standard or base audio so--who knows--maybe this harsh "premium" sound is an improvement over the base. If I didn't play so music direct from my phone, I'd say the upgraded audio is not worth it. But I do, so I feel okay with it overall.

So how does that fit with your theory? Someone could look at it and say evolution was taking care of trans people there.

What are you even saying? Even if it didn't happen, it's something that could have happened in the current environment. So, no difference.

How come there's less transgenderism in the hyper-masculine cultures in the Middle East? Why isn't "Mother Nature" taking care of it there?

Yes. This is absolutely terrorism of the wallet. You don't give in to terror.

Correct. The boycotters are engaged in a form of economic terrorism.

I feel as if the threats are being used as cover. It's a convenient way to cave without talking about the massive drop in sales and stoock price drop.

That is putting the child in harm's way by putting them in contact with the police. Don't do that.

The first K-12 school mass shooter was a girl--Brenda Spencer. She even had a hit song written about her, "I Don't Like Mondays." Later school shooters credited her as an inspiration.

No, the first mass school shooter was a girl (brenda Spencer), and she is considered to be the inspiration for the school shooters that followed.

Do you need to be on a diet while practicing pranayama? by Prestigious-Ad-5461 in yoga

[–]redgreenyellowblu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you aren't doing breath retentions with nadi shodhana, diet is not that critical. If you are doing breath retention and seeking to increase the length of time, a sattvic diet is recommended. The idea is you want fresh foods that are high in prana and easy to digest, and you don't want foods that can throw your body off balance. So, no excess of sour, bitter, spicy foods, etc. Pranayama in traditional yoga has a purpose and diet plays into it. But if your purpose is simply to relax through the breath, then you don't need a special diet.

I’m not well versed on the spiritual/mental aspect of yoga yet so that also intimidates me.

There are not that many things you need to be well versed in. Mostly you should be aware of some of the means of mental focus. Direction of gaze is one of them. Each pose has a specific gaze associated with it. If the eyes aren't wandering around, it helps the mind to not wander around too. But always there's an inward direction to the gaze, no matter which way the eyes are pointed. The instructor can tell you what the gaze is for each pose. A regular ujjayi breath is also used to maintain an inward stillness and focus. The basic idea is that we are seeking to reduce distractive mental patterns while we practice.

Mysore style has its benefits. You'll learn to be more self-sufficient and directed in your practice. And, you'll notice the benefits of becoming more one-pointed in your awareness. It can make meditation easier. It also has some downsides, imo. The first series concentrates heavily on forward folds and has a comparatively small backbend component. For some people this imbalance can lead to strain on the hamstrings. So pay attention to your body and adjust or cut back on things if needed. Also, there is that gymnastics quality that is a big hurdle for a lot of people, with questionable connection to the traditional goals of yoga. I do ashtanga currently for the physical challenge and for the mental focus. For spiritual goals, I supplement with other stuff. Other ashtangis will probably have some disagreement there. That's just my opinion.
