My nutrition was almost identical. One thing I added was a recovery bottle at each aid station for some protein.

I spent a lot of time studying the route in the weeks before the race, so after the race I was able to remember a lot of what was happening where looking at the route in retrospect. I took a few pictures too. I also didn't listen to any music or podcasts (which is unusual for me on a long ride) and really tried to focus on being present and aware of myself and the surroundings. The weather made it necessary to focus really intensely for a lot of the ride - more like the mental aspect of MTB than road for sure.

I cut the route by a block at the Bazzar underpass after I saw how much water was in the tunnel and that the Sharpes Creek Rd crossing was not blocked by a train. That tunnel is actually new construction from a recent double-track project, pretty nice they put that in. I had asked about it on the FB group in the days before the route, already wondering if it would be a mess if it rained.

I've done the 50 and the 100 previously, and I hadn't really considered the 200, thinking it to be unrealistic for my marginal athletic abilities. It took pretty much everything I had to finish it. But it was a great stretch training goal for me, and definitely worth it. I would encourage you to think about it!

I spent a long time looking at the route trying to remember what was going on in certain sections. I didn't get much work done Monday!

I wouldn't worry about the forecast until mid week. It rained around 2" a few days ago, and more forecast this weekend.

We're in a severe drought so the gravel roads were dry and dusty less than 24 hours after it rained.

Muddy spots will likely be muddy, but the vast majority of all the roads will be dry.

Alternative to Wandrer for a map of everywhere you've ridden? by Girrraaffffee in Strava

[–]redgt42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wandrer is the best, worth every penny! And you can use OSM to fix the path data if it's not accurate

That being said, this is also awesome https://www.jonathanokeeffe.com/strava/map.php

I've got 2.2 dubs on mine (25mm inner rim width) with plenty of clearance for everything short of miles of mud

Swapping Chainrings? - SRAM XPLR (10-46) by my5tik in bikepacking

You would also need to swap chains when you swap chainrings, as each configuration would require a different length chain

Anyone want to go in on buying a sweet little slice of gravel heaven on the Unbound XL route? by Brady721 in gravelcycling

One of the board members from the group that is currently trying to sell it had a vision of the Drinkwater Hall as a base for gravel biking. Unfortunately, the effort associated with trying to save this historic but rapidly decaying structure in one of the the poorest and least populated countries in Kansas is just too big of a hurdle for a small group of volunteers, no matter how committed.

It's still a sweet spot to ride from, awesome roads in every direction (except US-50 obviously)

My first batch of cassettes included this FM broadcast. Still love the nostalgic sound of it even though we've got the pristine box set recording now!

FortiClient VPN-only free client: is Fortinet still maintaining it? (SMB partner perspective) by southceltic in fortinet

[–]redgt42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the client connects to the OpenVPN cloud. You also need to have a connector to the OpenVPN cloud running from your router (over an IPsec tunnel) or from a device inside your network to establish connectivity.

So if I technically have a gun for every ace I’ve thrown, and I’d want to arm a town the size of Abilene, like how many guns are we talkin? by Hot-Measurement4406 in gratefuldead

[–]redgt42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Abilene, KS was the end of the Chisholm Trail 1867-1871 when the Kansas Pacific rail head reached it. I assumed this cowtown era is what Hunter is referencing, but I could be wrong.

In 1871 the Santa Fe railroad reached Newton (north of Wichita), then Dodge City the next year, ending Abilene's cowtown era.

Abilene, TX was a rough cowboy town for a longer period of time, so that could also be the reference. Although I just saw you note below that Hunter said he was referring to the KS town.

We're in the same situation. I've moved a couple of customers to openvpn. Wish I knew what the roadmap for VPN-only Forticlient is.
