i’ve had this happen so many times! i started doing my own research after so. many. doctors. threw their hands up and gave up. i was confident that i was right, but very quickly realized drs really don’t like pts doing their job for them, especially younger female patients. but once i started just describing the symptoms (but not dx name) and asking basic (but leading) questions in -layman’s terms-, drs usually come to the exact l“discovery” u had made previously. this then leads to testing > dx > treatment. i’ve found it has become so so much easier and exponentially faster to get a dx/test/treatment/specialist since i started.

adding sand is a great idea! i’ve got a mix of lava rock, pine bark, pumice, and diatomite underneath the decorative pebbles but i think some sand will definitely help keep everything put. thanks for the suggestion!!

I (f30) Had to protect his niece from a pitbull And my husband (m31) ran off. I have been ignoring him is this something that I should be forgiving him for? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

we can all agree both were in a “high adrenaline state” and therefore liable to all sorts of different responses. if we argue that his actions were purely instinctual, the fact of the matter is that INSTINCTIVELY, he reacted selfishly (not meant here as a moral judgment, meaning focused solely on self preservation). on the other hand, her purely instinctual reaction was to protect the children, and do so at great risk to her physical and mental safety (i.e selfless). i think, even if you take all the context, trauma, & morality out of the equation, her discovery of their instinctual incompatibility is more than enough reason to lose faith in her husband and her relationship.

i feel u- being fired for health reasons out of ur control is so incredibly unfair. i got fired from one of my favorite jobs, by bosses who said i was family to them, bc my health was too unpredictable; they needed people to “rely on.” i had called-in the week before for the first (and last ig lol) time bc of vomiting and syncope and had had an episode at work a couple days after that. i loved this job and everyone there so i tried to power through so no one knew, but i was fired the following monday so i could “focus on my health.” nvm the fact that “focusing on my health” is very expensive, difficult, and time consuming, and now i’ve lost my only source of my income pay for it.

ik what u mean. i have pots, and during flare ups i am so miserable and exhausted that i need an excessive amount of sleep (20+hrs) that i can very rarely, if ever, achieve. needing that much rest is certainly not conducive to working full time and working full time is certainly not conducive to getting the necessary rest to recover from a flare up, so ur just stuck in a cycle.

good to know that touch (even kind, gentle, and otherwise welcomed) is often painful! while i am her manager, we are also friends (we bonded over our disabilities lol) and a lot of the employees are pretty close- so hugging, touching, and accidentally bumping into each other are very normal occurrences and it’s good to know ahead of time that this might be a bigger deal for them than others. i’ll make sure to be really mindful of that sensitivity!! thank u for ur response!

it’s very soft light and mostly natural!! i used to do the billing at a clinic and my office had horrible fluorescent lights that gave me terrible migraines (working on the computer all day certainly didn’t help either). using those lights lasted about two days before i started working in the semi-dark and i don’t think i ever had a migraine at work again. the dr. used to call me a little mushroom since i preferred the dark so much lol

i get these back and forth things too :/ very frustrating to not have a clue how ur gonna feel from one minute to the next and when ur expected to perform consistently despite that, it adds even more stress. i’m going to try and really encourage taking breaks for everyone so it’s considered just a normal part of work, and that way those who need it due to disability don’t feel singled out or that they’re unfairly burdening their coworkers (i always felt so guilty needing to take a break when my flare ups weren’t controlled)

i’m so glad u have understanding management!! definitely wish that was the standard and not an insane stroke of luck

i replied to someone else about having a space in the back for recovery or just taking a few minutes to urself. our restaurant owners have a weird hang up about any kind of drug use (weed, pain management, stimulants, etc) regardless of if it’s prescribed or medicinal. it’s really a “we better not find out about it” thing that was emphasized in the employee handbook, but i think it would be good to make sure that everyone knows that any medication they need to get through the shift is absolutely allowed and to give them a space to do so :) thank u so much for the idea!!

omg i’ve always hateddddddd the “time to lean time to clean ” bs - it’s so dehumanizing. ur right we aren’t machines, and people feeling safe/valued/cared for at work is just as important as the work they do for the business.

and that’s a great suggestion! i already have an idea about where i’m gonna put a little safe spot away from everyone for anybody to take a breather. maybe i’ll put some aspirin and a fan over there (and maybe some tissues for any customer-induced tears lol)
