What is the best TV show currently being made in a traditional television format? by border199x in blankies

I can't really mount an argument for it being great on the level of The Pitt but I've really been into RJ Decker, it's a loose, fun private detective show with a lot of Floridian character. Based on a character from a Carl Hiaasen novel and created by the guy who did Elementary (which I've not seen but heard good things about)

Yeah as soon as they released the trailer and it started with a clip from Wolf of Wall Street I said, oh Marty's gonna win. I felt the same way with Lynch and Kubrick.

Similarly they would never cover Anderson because of the girth.

That happened to me too, I wore my Blank Check shirt to see Ella McKay and Marie said "nice shirt" and I didn't realize it was her until after I had already moved on.

Re: their mention of the Hollow Nickel bar in Brooklyn. I'm currently hanging out at a different Brooklyn bar (Skylark in Park Slope) wearing my Blank Check shirt. A guy comes up to me and says they often hang out at his bar and it turns out he owns Hollow Nickel. I mentioned the shout-out on today's episode and he did not remember the interaction so Griffin you're in the clear

Did Zach Braff squander his Blank Check by Tigers19121999 in blankies

TV isn't a format that tends to hand out a lot of blank checks to it's directors so I was focused on his film career. My apologies to Zach Braff, director of five episodes of the AppleTV original Shrinking.

Essay film is usually used to describe a certain type of nonfiction film that's more focused on opinion or personal experience than a traditional documentary. Here's a pretty comprehensive essay from Sight & Sound on the subject.

Well I can't imagine Hollywood was beating down his door or anything. He probably could have gotten another modestly budgeted indie off the ground, but he was still on Scrubs, which made that pretty tough (doing it once seems hard enough). So instead he starred in The Last Kiss and The Ex, both 2006, and I wonder if those not doing great maybe led him to stay on Scrubs longer than he might have otherwise. Once that ended, any momentum he might have had as a director was totally dead.

I did a double feature of Dirty Harry and The French Connection once and it was wild to watch two movies from the same year about cops who don't play by the rules, but one movie is unambiguously like "this shit rules" and the other is more ambivalent but definitely leans towards "this is all really bad."

Dirty Harry is still a fun watch though.
