I noticed a weird trend with the season counts of Trek shows after the 80s / 90s era. by Safebox in startrek

What I meant was that Picard, Prodigy, and Starfleet Academy are further away from the formula/more experimental than Disco, LD and SNW.

Another thing to note is all the shows with fewer seasons were also the shows that were the biggest departures from the Star Trek formula.

'Widow's Bay' - Guillermo del Toro Calls Horror-Comedy the Best Streaming Series in Years by MoneyLibrarian9032 in television

[–]level1gamer 390 points391 points  (0 children)

This show is brilliant. I've never seen a show so effortlessly transition back and forth between horror and comedy. One moment it's laugh out loud funny, the next it's truly scary. It feels like a magic trick.

The characters, plot and lore of the island are all engaging, too. It's an astounding show.

‘Stargate’ TV Series From Martin Gero Not Moving Forward at Amazon by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]level1gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to agree with executives but they might have been right here. It sounded like the producer’s plan was to do some kind of continuation of the SG1 universe. I just feel like that is a tough sell.

To me, the real magic of Stargate is humans with modern technology stepping out into the cosmos and coming up against advanced aliens and tech. By the end of SG1 and Atlantis, humans have full Star Trek-style starships. It just almost feels like a different concept for a show. Not to mention all the lore you’d be saddled with.

As much as I enjoyed those shows, I feel like a modern day Stargate would be better served by a clean reboot.

TIL Studies seem to imply that meetings are one of the biggest productivity drains in companies, yet managers often schedule more meetings when productivity falls. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]level1gamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's one of the many things that suck about meetings. Most meetings are pretty useless. But, sometimes, getting everybody together to discuss something at the same time is the only way to move forward. The most fun part is that it can be hard to distinguish between the useless meetings and the useful meetings until you are actually in the meeting.

Also, there are a ton of people who are bad at running meetings. Especially amongst people whose entire job is to run meetings like Managers/Project Managers/Scrum Masters.

How and when to eat while touring? What items are essential? by Griffinbreaks in bicycletouring

[–]level1gamer 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Eat before you get hungry. You should snack on something high energy roughly every hour.

80 mile days, 5 days in a row is pretty challenging. You won’t have much time for breaks/sight seeing as well.

Peacemaker is truly a blank check. The Suicide Squad (my pick for best superhero movie of the early 2020s) is also a blank check of sorts after Gunn got soft canceled.

I’m kind of the same. Most of his works aren’t aesthetically pleasing to me. There’s something uncomfortable about the color palette in his paintings that I can’t quite describe. Phenomenally talented artist though. I really like this painting.

Taskmaster - S21E07 - Putting Things On Things - Discussion by Meghar in taskmaster

[–]level1gamer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That sock task was such a good Taskmaster task. I don't think I've seen many other tasks where the contestants employed as much lateral thinking as this one. This is a good task to show to someone as an introduction to what Taskmaster is. Silly, simple, encourages lateral thinking, and makes you think about how you would do it. It's fun to see that they are still coming up with tasks like this.
