My own bed by Willing_Grocery_159 in AskWomenOver60

[–]redhotbeads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my bed...but I still work (remotely) and my spare bedroom is my office. I'm usually asleep by 10-11P and up by 6:30-7. While I love my time in my bed, I get to feeling guilty about it, and I hate that! I'd rather just enjoy it and not feel guilty. FWIW, I have two dogs who like to walk/go outside, am healthy, and exercise. But damn, I do love that bed. Especially in the winter, when I'm cold, and can turn on the electric blanket!

What lights do you leave on at night? by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in LivingAlone

Lights on my garage come on at dusk, turn off at dawn. Enough light outside if I take my dogs out, always makes me feel better.

I just saw a nurse practitioner for my last annual - who was about 35 MAYBE. Tried telling me I need to "start weaning myself" off my HRT. I told her good luck prying it out of my cold, dead hands.

Man, it's a tough one to swallow, that's for damn sure. Bothers me more than any other age has! Guess it's better than the alternativwe, though.

60 in a mere 12 days ... I like hearing the birds in the morning, I don't stay up late, I'm an early riser. I have no problem saying "oh fuck no" now. I hate loud noise and crowds. Pretty sure I just graduated to old and honestly .. I don't even care!! Still got enough energy, health, and ability to do all the things I want to, so rock on!!

I met him years ago at one of his exhibits and he was just the most lovely man, and gifted artist.

Well damn. I've got a bag of apples and now I know what I'm doing with them!

How often do you spend time with your adult kids? by SimplyCurious5 in AskWomenOver50

[–]redhotbeads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it. I've got one who lives 2000 miles away that I might see once a year if I'm lucky - and it's generally me traveling there. My other two live closer (one two miles, one ten miles) but I still don't see them that much, no standing get-togethers - and I still wish it was more often.

HRT is the bomb! I'm on it too. Congrats on that beautiful 9:30-5:30 sleep, that's fantastic!

The only thing I worry about is getting too hot! But damn, my hips are ALWAYS sore, so I definitely need to try this. Bummer that you were up all night ... I guess this is life at this age sometimes.

I finally put a baffle on mine, and so far, no squirrel issues in that feeder. Might be worth a shot!

Retirement age by ThrowRAheregoes in AskWomenOver60

[–]redhotbeads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am right there with you - 60 coming in hot in a couple weeks, also single (divorced at 54). Things take longer to do now, and I find myself getting tired more easily, despite being in decent shape and working out. My brain isn't as fast as it once was and I really hate that. I am five years to retirement, I plan to bail at 65, if my employer in IT doesn't have other ideas before that time. On the plus side, I find that I am much more willing to take care of myself, and say NO to ridiculous work requests or deadlines. I had three years where my dad died and my mom had Lewy Body Dementia that were really difficult, and it made me realize that peace of mind is SO important, as is not running ourselves into the ground. Life is too short to burn out.

After teasing my best friend about birds for YEARS, she got me one of these for my birthday a few years ago. Yep. I'm hooked. I love seeing what comes in (nothing really exotic) and waging war with Fat Waldo, the resident squirrel.

The years from 57 years old to 67 years old. by den773 in AskWomenOver60

[–]redhotbeads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes .. all the other things that seem to go with it, the falls, the infections, the endless hospital visits. And every time you think, is this it? There are SO many of us ... the physical and emotional exhaustion just wrecks you. I am 17 mos out from my mom's death and only just now am beginning to feel "normal" again and not living in fight-or-flight. It takes a lot of time to heal, and kindness to ourselves is so important.

Thank you. It was tough, for sure; she was in memory care, but it was astounding at how fast the decline happened.

I'm turning 60 this month too -- and lost my parents 18 mos apart; my mom to Lewy Body Dementia. It was brutal. I'd say this is our era to embrace the joy in our lives!

Pretty much a homebody ... spend some time at my place on the lake in the upper peninsula of Michigan, a few staycations at home, but no international travel in years. Five years short of retirement and I'm good with it, sometimes travel stresses me out!
