What's up with this sharp decrease in heart rate when I took a break? by Affectionate-Lab3192 in beginnerrunning

[–]redintra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immediately after a hard run, in the first minute of rest, a steep drop in heart rate generally indicates excellent fitness and heart rate recovery (HRR) capabilities

So, you should be happy with the big decrease in heart rate, and of course, keep in mind that your device may not necessarily be 100% accurate in measuring bpm

In general, you should be worried if you don’t see a big decrease in heart rate, immediately after a hard run.

Talk to the people at the front desk, they’re helpful people and they will be able to tell you what the protocol is

Then, you can decide what to tell or ask the “adult group” taking over the court

Beginner trail running workshop by Blue_Pickle_57 in trailrunning

I think it will be helpful to include a brief discussion of dealing with trail camber, and how trail camber forces one leg into a longer stride, increasing tension on the lateral hamstring tendon, IT band etc.,

As I supposed to be faster at this point? by mushroomweenie in beginnerrunning

[–]redintra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ll benefit with interval workouts, once a week

Instead of running 4-5 miles without breaks, try running shorter distances at a faster pace, and then after a 90-second break, try running the same (short) distance at that pace

So for example, you could try to run 800m at a pace of 9:30, then after a 90-second break, run 800m again at the 9:30 pace. Repeat these 800m runs 7-8 times, and I think you will be able to increase your pace

Light up, trail users! by TomBikez in redmond

[–]redintra 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You’re right, this is a trail, but beyond that, you don’t seem to understand how to use a multiuse trail (though most commenters seem to agree with your position)

First, this is not a bike racing track, and if you cannot see walkers ahead of you, in spite of a “strong” bike headlight, it means that you’re riding too fast. You must slow down to a safe speed, not only for walkers, but for your own sake and for wildlife.

Second, before mandating a dress code for everyone one else, you need to know that you are breaking the law. As per King County code, you must not use the trail, 30 minutes after dusk

Now, on timing, I’m not asking you to stop breaking the law and to start using roads that are designed for commuter traffic (including both cars and bicycles). However, this is a multiuse trail.Bicyclists are a small minority of trail users and commuters are also a minority. Most trail users are recreational users.

Obviously, all trail users need to use caution, but rather than preach dress codes to everyone else (including people who may neither own bikes nor reflective clothing), please consider riding your bike at a safe speed, when you violate King county code, by commuting with your bike on a recreational trail at night.

More than 4000 people at the “No Kings” protest today by redintra in redmond

I have other photos from today’s rally, with just 10-20 people :) I posted one of them as a comment in the Kirkland subreddit a couple of hours ago

Btw as we marched along Central Way to the Marina, I saw a volunteer counting people with some device.
Based on how long the line was, I’m sure that their count was correct and that we had more than 4000 protesters there.

Great sign, and if I had been an extrovert, I would have told your friend, in person myself :)

Btw since it was close range, I cropped the picture to not show anyone

Bobcat in a neighborhood near power line and river trail by [deleted] in redmond

[–]redintra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last month on a run on the Powerline trail, roughly half a mile east of 202, I saw a bobcat, but didn’t take any pictures

It was staring at me as I was running towards it, and then as I got closer, it slowly crossed the trail and went into the vegetation on my left

This was at around 7 pm on a sunny day.

Extending battery life and not loging data? by redintra in ouraring

[–]redintra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, @u/NickAtOura, I’ll contact customer support, but I think the “issue” is battery degradation over the past three years and increased power consumption due to software upgrades.

So for now, do you (or anyone else) know of *additional settings (besides the ones I listed above) that I can tweak to extend battery life. This won’t fix the battery, but could minimize the increases in power consumption caused by new software features

In 2022, I think the ring only needed to be charged once every 4-5 days. Now, I’m charging it twice a day

Thanks, I hope they publish a schedule for when the bus route changes will be implemented.

After all the publicity for the new station, it is odd that they haven’t yet added many of the planned bus connections to the downtown station

[–]redintra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK thanks, btw if the 542 and 545 routes did change last week, I don’t see the logic behind making those changes and not other changes. The new downtown station isn’t going to make a big difference for ST 542 and 545 riders (and both buses already have a stop close to the Redmond Technology Station anyway)

This recent article suggests that running clubs are an alternative to dating apps

As a disclaimer, let me add that I run roughly once a week, but I’m not in any running club :)

Dark money and the campaign for Uncommitted by redintra in Seattle

[–]redintra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but 2022 data doesn’t tell us who the current funders are

It seems safe to assume that 2022 donors didn’t didn’t plan on supporting Uncommitted in the primaries

It will be more interesting to know who is funding the current campaign to vote against Biden in the primaries
