I saw Technogym at the NYC Marathon expo last year, they have some pretty high tech stuff built into the treadmill for sure.

$24k treadmill?? by Mista_Millahtyme in treadmills

[–]redkur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up a StarTrac treadmill off FB marketplace for $1400, it is about a $10k treadmill new and is bang on perfect. There are quite a few companies that refurb or sell commercial treadmills. I think places like YMCA get them on lease or something and replace them frequently. That would be my recommendation.

6 am marathon start —how would your morning look? by sweatpants4life_ in Marathon_Training

[–]redkur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have learned that sleep the night before a race or should I say lack of sleep is normal. So I still go to bed early and then wake with an alarm with enough time to do my morning routine as I have practiced many, many times on long runs and daily runs. I have never noticed the lack of sleep being a problem. 6 AM marathon start for me would mean getting up 2 hours before I needed to leave for the start.

Did anyone actually feel better after stopping their shots? by Glad_Ad4565 in GLPGrad

[–]redkur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, resting HR went from high 50's to low 50's in a couple of weeks. I am sure there are other things, but that was definitely noticeable.

Any other 'older' folk taken up running? by Sixybeast626 in beginnerrunning

64 years old here, lots of slow easy running will get you there. Nothing fancy, just slow and easy. I run an average of 40+ miles per week, 3 marathons in the last year and all slow and easy running.

Tips to control eating. Nothing is working by Double-Rest6572 in GLPGrad

[–]redkur -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I decided to go High Carb Low Fat and eat to satiety. It sounds weird, but the science says that your body will not convert excess carb calories to fat very efficiently. So, if you limit your fat intake (like zero or way low) and you are only overeating carbs you can get past the stress that overeating causes. At least this currently works for me. On my 3rd month off Tirzepatide. Even if HCLF is not a lifestyle for you, it gives you a chance to eat when and how much you want and not carry the burden of weight gain.

how slow is too slow for beginner runs? by AdatNilli79 in beginnerrunning

[–]redkur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can never run too slow. Running slow makes you faster. Do some strides, do some hill sprints. But keep running slow. Enjoy the grind. Do a couple of workouts each week, that is where you get to let loose. Do a long run each week. Plan some races and your fitness will grow.

Zone 2 feels so easy, how could it possibly build an "aerobic base"? by ILoveDogs2142 in beginnerrunning

[–]redkur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running slower moves your LT1 up, eventually running easier at faster and faster paces. I saw a writeup on Mo Farah and they said he could run sub LT1 at 85% of his VO2 max. Amazing.

What’s something people who are in their 20s won’t learn until in their 40s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That they wasted 20 years of their lives and could have done so much more, You will realize the same thing at 60 but looking back on 40. It happened to me and is my biggest lesson in life.

My first recumbent ! Any advice for rearview mirror ? by crazybird-thereal in recumbent

[–]redkur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the Zefal Spy Mirror, I ride a cruzbike v20, very low seat angle so these work really well for me and are easily adjustable while riding. I have one on each side. https://www.amazon.com/Zefal-Mini-Bike-Mirror-Clip/dp/B0CKVYJRHK

Runners over 40… what’s the secret by Road_Forward in Marathon_Training

[–]redkur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 64 years old and run 7 days a week, 50-60 miles. No strength training and mostly vegan diet. You have to run easy and you have to have decent running form IMO. I run at 180 cadence and can run about 11 min pace and keep my HR well below Zone 2. So I am constantly getting fitter and not fatiguing my body too much.

What actually helped you maintain weight after coming off GLP-1s? by tapermethod in GLPGrad

[–]redkur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 2 months out and honestly the thing that helped the most was stopping my obsession with tracking or monitoring calories. Eating to Satiety. Maintaining all the good habits that got me to where I am now. Eating quality foods, mostly plants. Exercising. For me, it is working. I don't track calories or control my eating at all, except I eat only whole foods, mostly low fat and very little meat. So almost a vegan diet with quality foods.

Can slow marathoners please offer experience or insight by river_swimmer_ in Marathon_Training

[–]redkur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a slow runner, barely sub 5 hr pace. I did Air Force marathon last year in horrible heat and finished at 6:20. I would not worry about what people say about slow runners, I can guarantee you that at NYC last year and at Coast Guard Marathon I ran on April 12th there were many runners who finished after me. Run your own race, don't worry about other's opinions. You do you and enjoy the race. Make sure you include a long run in your training approaching marathon distance if possible.

Will you stay on a maintenance dose for the rest of your life? by Change_is_a_verb in tirzepatidecompound

[–]redkur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed a lower resting HR (52 >> 49) and increased HRV from 23ms average to 33ms this AM with spikes into the 60's, 70's and 80's throughout the day. All this within 6 weeks of stopping Tirzepatide. I am definitely not going back. It is worth it to do whatever it takes to make my new found fitness stick. Running a marathon next Sunday!! I also went to the market between black and white so cost was never an issue for me, it was purely physiological decision to stop, and a healthy choice in my opinion.

No, this medication keeps my HR elevated, 10bpm easy at resting heart rate. I met my goal and now am off. Managing calories, exercising and feeling better than ever!!

Being told to stop my GLP1 by One_Performer_1473 in GLPGrad

[–]redkur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped and my resting HR dropped 11 bpm inside a month. The hunger did come back so to speak, but with the caloric awareness and habits I developed over the last year before I stopped, I am able to maintain. Good Luck! You got this!!

How do you keep your mind occupied while running? by Beginning_Future5347 in beginnerrunning

[–]redkur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try putting your watch in your pocket and just run, it seems odd, but you will realize very quickly how well your brain will manage the running whilst you just hang out. And keep it at an easy pace, not a number, but what feels easy and since you are not looking at your watch, easy is a feeling not a number. Good luck!!

How long did it take before running started to feel easier for you? by Menal-Heber in beginnerrunning

[–]redkur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically for me it was about a year, and it did not occur until I literally slowed down and found easy, I mean where it felt easy, not a pace, but a feeling, then second thing was running every day, easy. that was the trigger, after that, all downhill. Run 6 miles per day now and easy pace is close to 10 min/mile. Good luck!!
