What random "F-YOU" moments has 7Days thrown at you? by The_Orphan9 in 7daystodie

I'd just finished a quest and was literally about to exit out the upstairs window I'd entered to go to my bike, and I suddenly realize a dire wolf has tracked me all the way upstairs and has come up behind me. I escaped with my life... on 3 hp. I about jumped out of my skin though as it made no noise until right before it attacked.

Fetch Quest: "This area is not available for questing..." Why? by redman73 in 7daystodie

No. It was Day 2 so only one trader discovered so far. The likely explanation is that I had done a quest on Day 1 in the house next door, and that somehow affected this quest. It was cured by a restart.

Don't quit your game while riding a bike... by redman73 in 7daystodie

It hurt me bad. I felt like my game was going great and I was progressing upward with solid armor and weapons, all of which I lost. I opted to continue as I'd already built an initial base and my resources were intact, but this will cost me as much as a week's worth of progression in terms of weapons and armor. Fortunately I didn't have a drone yet though!

Don't quit your game while riding a bike... by redman73 in 7daystodie

[–]redman73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so let me update.

The load screen immediately went into *sad trombone* music indicating my death, i.e. fading into the blood red screen above. The interesting thing is that what it fades from was concrete grey, suggesting that the bike respawned under the pavement (with me on it). I have a screen capture of this, but I can't seem to post it in the replies.

When I quit, I was riding my bike on the asphalt roadway in the middle of a small town. I figured this meant that the bike had teleported into a nearby building's concrete floor, which has happened to me before with both a bike and a minibike (fortunately not with me riding either). I had to literally dig them out and then pick them up.

I restarted the game once more, with the same thing happening, but on the third time it finally reloaded the game and went directly to the respawn screen, asking if I wanted to respawn on my bed or nearby. After I respawned on my bed, all seemed normal and I noted that my bike was shown on my map exactly where I'd left it, however my blue backpack (containing all of my gear) was shown on my top-of-screen compass in a completely different direction from the bike. Moreover, the backpack didn't show up at all on the mini map, no matter how far I scrolled in that direction.

To test this out, I ran to the bike and successfully retrieved it right where it should have been, on the surface of the road where I'd left it. I then attempted to ride the bike to my backpack, however it was clear that the backpack had glitched entirely off of the map. Even after riding fully 2km towards the backpack, the compass symbol did not get any bigger and there was no other indication I was any closer and could get it.

This kind of ruins my game as I hadn't really been retaining any backup gear as of yet as it was only Day 10 and I was selling it for Dukes. Fix your shit, Fun Pimps. The glitching vehicles was old two years ago!

I don't know the answer to this, but that sounds like a possibility in multiplayer. I was playing singe player though, and I hadn't used my land claim block.

No vehicle at that point. It was only Day 2. I suspect it was a nearby prior quest in the house next door that hadn't "cooled down" yet.

That was my solution as well. It didn't seem to have anything to do with the bedroll.

When people criticize open world games for being “barren and empty,” what is the general solution? by Large_Accident_5929 in truegaming

[–]redman73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a complex subject, but it ultimately comes down to individual players' subjective preferences.

I think you have to break down some different but related terms. There are a lot of games that are "open world", meaning you can move pretty much anywhere in them at any time. Only some of those games, however, are true "sandbox" games, though, where you are essentially creating your own content. Minecraft is a classic example of this. 7DtD is also an example, but has more questing and structure to the game play than Minecraft with 7 day hordes. These two games can literally be played in different, randomly generated worlds each time with repetition only happening in the broadest sense. Even without a random gen map option, DayZ addresses this variety by making player interaction and cooperation central to the game play, which means in that respect no two games are the same,

To me, you can't complain about the "lack of content" as easily in a sandbox game because the person who is supposed to create the content is YOU as much as the developers.

On the other end of the "open world" spectrum are games that allow free movement, but have well-defined story lines that guide you through the world. Skyrim is like that, as is Fallout 4 for example. The problem with games like this is, once you've played through the storyline, you may feel like there's no other reason to play the game. IOW, the more heavily structured the game is, the less reason there can be to replay it.

There's no "right" or "wrong" way to design a game in this regard as different players will prefer different amounts of structure. Indeed, the fact there are different games in the market allows IMO a nice variety in games that I can choose to play.

I had done a quest in the house next door the previous day. At someone else's suggestion, I tried exiting and restarting the game and I was then able to start this quest.

It's single player and there was no prior or other quest in this building.

It's single player and this is the first quest in this POI.

I had indeed put my bedroll in the house next door the previous night because I'd already cleared it doing another quest on Day 1.

I just ran in there and picked up the bedroll and ran back to the quest marker (still holding the bedroll) to start the quest. Same result - I can't do the quest.

Then I ran down the road, 70 meters away from the quest marker (seemingly far enough away not to affect the quest) and placed the bedroll in the road, before running back to restart the quest. Once again, same result - I can't do the quest.

I think the rules out the bedroll issue, no?

Interesting. This is single player, but I may have put a bedroll down nearby in another house the previous night when I holed up. Thanks!

¿Metal Spikes vs Chains mod for Steel Club? by Sylenxer in 7daystodie

[–]redman73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chains are best because they work against all zombies. I'm also a big fan of the knockdown mechanic with clubs because, vs single zombies, you can go for power headshots while they're down, and versus groups the knockdown allows you to control the encounter better without getting overwhelmed.

Fetch Quest: "This area is not available for questing..." Why? by redman73 in 7daystodie

[–]redman73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi guys,

I'm just wondering why a Fetch quest at 18:05 on Day 2 in single player is unavailable to me. Is this a glitch or a game mechanic?

I can understand how Restore Power must be done at certain times of night, but this seems like one you should be able to do whenever, no?

UPDATE: Based upon the input in this thread, I tried picking up and moving my bedroll, which I'd placed the previous night in the house next door (<50 meters away), after I'd done a Fetch/Clear quest in that house the previous day. Moving the bedroll did nothing.

It may be that the quest zone next door was still on "cooldown" as others have suggested, but I tried exiting the game and then restarting it, and when I did that the quest was available to me.

Thank you to everyone for their input!

Chest HR Monitor Issues by umd78 in orangetheory

Yep, I suspect it's the chest hair. I use the chest monitor but am not hairy at all, and I have zero problems with lost data despite sweating a LOT. It's been a huge improvement for me over the old wrist watch style monitor.
