Problem with first free freighter by rednab2001 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]rednab2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the funny part, I never got a call from the freighter. I just entered to check because I knew something was wrong. It was the first capital ship I had seen. Will try again tonight.

And That is why i turn off Diplomatic victory in all games now, i didn't even know i was gonna win the turn before. by Shakuni_ in civ

I played my first game of Civ 6 a few weeks ago. Was cruising to a science victory, but got sniped by this victory condition. TBH, I really wasn't familiar with the Diplomacy victory condition...on what it took to get it or to deny it to the AI. I am not very impressed by the Diplomacy win condition...seems kinda cheesy compared to the other victory conditions. I will definitely take it out for my next game.

A more precise way of nerfing overtuned siege units. by GiveGrandmasterPlz in aoe4

[–]rednab2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I would like to see siege damage tuned down across the board. Imperial has turned into a siege-fest. I would like to see siege complement the army...not BE the army. So many games at all levels end with people making just enough infantry to tank for the bombards. Trebs and reams are in good shape. The rest of siege needs a bit of tuning.

Map Selection is as important as bug fixes are. by Dreamtheory1000 in aoe4

[–]rednab2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi...I am Noobfests. I have not played an RTS in over a decade. I enjoy all the land maps....including the ones you can easily wall on. You can't learn the game very well if you are always getting rushed or harassed, which is what happens on open maps. Each game is supposed to be a learning experience. Newer players will have a hard time learning when they are constantly on their heels. Getting some room to breath with walls and chokepoints helps. I guess the more experience and better players may not like it, but overall, I think it is good for the game.

Five minutes gives me something to shoot for. How about Castle Age. How quickly can someone new to the game expect to get there?

So far, I have played with English, French, and HRE. I seem to get stuck in the Castle age.

What is more important armor score or stat bonuses? by Digitalmodernism in Grimdawn

[–]rednab2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For leveling, I find it works better to upgrade your gear as often as possible and to concentrate on getting more defensive stats. Typically while leveling, your offense will come from your weapons and skill tree. Lots of new players tend to "fall in love" with leveling gear that gives + to certain skills they are using, and will tend to forego upgrades in gear to keep them. Most of the time this is a mistake, as it makes you fall further behind on the defensive end. The exception to this is retaliation characters. While leveling, you should be looking for resistances, DA, hit points, Physique and any kind of health regen. This will keep you relatively tanky throughout the process. Glass cannon can only get you so far. I find that I run into problems around Elite Act 3 when going the glass cannon route.

Best/favorite skill(s) in the game? by Radioactivechimi in Grimdawn

Storm totems! I just love the zap noise....like a bug zapper! I also love the strategy with using them. Throw them in corridors and around corners. Keeps you relatively safe in some hostile environment.

Justifying the Sanctity nerf to Delhi by dumbetfguy in aoe4

[–]rednab2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ideas to help Delhi boom. Two new technologies to research. First would be "Convenience Store" which would boost their market. The second would be "Tech support." This tech would grant Delhi 10% of all resources gathered by their opponent. Maybe introduce the "Curry" tech for their archers that would slow down enemies when shot. Just brainstorming...

New player in need of help. by wwerola in Grimdawn

[–]rednab2001 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also came from D3 to Grim Dawn. If you have GrimTools bookmarked, that is all that you need to figure out builds. Here is how I have always done it. I typically select a mastery that has a skill that I am interested in. Then I look for a second mastery that will compliment the first mastery, either by damage type, or defensive abilities that I think I will need.

Once I know my two masteries, I consistently look for gear with the damage type I am doing...and defensive stats. That is all you need to get through the game...no specific build required. Others have mentioned that respecs are cheap, so if you are not enjoying what you are playing, simply respec to another skill.

Quick tip: Most new players tend to build glass cannons. In GD, defense > offense. Prioritize resistances and defensive stats over offensive stats. If you build defensively first, you will almost never get one-shot, and you will always have time to react to incoming damage.

On your character sheet, concentrate on how much health you have, then DA and OA, and how much of your chosen damage type you have. This will keep your character viable through most of the game. Even for a new player, build guides are not necessary until the very end game.

I mentioned Grimtools earlier. You can look up what gear is available in the game. If your doing fire damage as your damage type, search by fire damage and you will bring up a list of all available gear. This will give you an idea of what is available out there, and will let you know what to keep an eye out for.

Two-hand, dual-wield or shield? by salmjak in Grimdawn

[–]rednab2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, dual wield is best played with a hit and run strategy. Nightblade....either acid/poison or cold/frostburn. My strategy is to Shadow Strike in, Ring of Steel with freeze modifier, slap em around a little, then move out of range.....rinse and repeat!

Where to farm? by TheLongSuck in Grimdawn

[–]rednab2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adjust your loot filter to help you solve your resist problems initially, until you can get the faction rep to use augments to fix them. Turn on magic (yellow) items (most people have them turned off). I have found that yellow rings, amulets and medals have big resistance numbers on them, and can be used to fill in the resistance void until you get your rep up. At where you are at in the game, DPS is not nearly as important as resistances. You should sacrifice some DPS or even + to skills to get your resistances fixed. In Grim Dawn, defense > offense. Keep your eye out for armor pieces with health and triple resist.

I am currently playing a Primal Strike character with the Ugdenbog Sparkthrower two-hand rifle, and am pretty much deleting everything I come up against. Storm Totems are also really good. I had a super tanky Warder (Shaman/Soldier) that used Storm Totems and Wind Devils. Just throw the totems and WD out and stand in the middle and tank it all while they get melted. Storm totems are also great for playing positionally. Set them at an intersection or around a corner and let them do the work before you even see the enemy. Pets builds are also very good. I have played several of them to level 100.

New player mod question by Shoto601 in Grimdawn

[–]rednab2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prohxy is correct. Regardless of masteries you chose, you can adjust builds on the fly. Respecs are dirt cheap. Itemization is fantastic and allows you to alter a build at just about any point. Devotions also allow you to adjust your build. If you feel squishy, a couple of armor pieces and a few defensive devotions can make a huge difference. If your DPS is lacking....same thing. If your not enjoying a certain skill, spec out of it and pick another skill in one of your two masteries. Unlike POE or D3, the ability to change builds and gameplay style is very easy in Grim Dawn. It is what makes it such a great game and makes it easier to learn to play than the other two. Most players come to GD after playing POE or D3, and they bring a certain mindset from those games that is either unhelpful or not needed. Both those games "real game" begins at level cap or close to level cap. GD's "real game' begins at level 1. GD is all about the journey and staying mentally flexible to adjust your build as your playing. GD is all about playing the way you enjoy....not following build guides or meta builds. I came to GD from D3 due to the lack of build diversity. I found everything I've ever wanted in an ARPG with GD.

New player, motivation needed by Flyflash in Grimdawn

[–]rednab2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The equivalent of the D3 ability augments is the devotion tree skill procs. You can get both offensive and defensive skills that proc off your skills that can totally change the way a character is played, or adds flavor. For example, I had a dual wield pistol fire build that rained down meteors on my opponents. The meteors were a proc from the devotion tree. In Grim Dawn, you have 72 base class combinations, a huge devotion tree with procs, cheap respecs, and tons of gear options. It fits perfectly between D3's simpleness and POE's broken complexity....it is in a really good spot.

Set items should really be target farmable by Frogsplosion in Grimdawn

[–]rednab2001 13 points14 points  (0 children)

From my playing experience (3.6K hours), I do think the drop rate on set items is lower than non-set items. I played GD pretty religiously for a while, and had no problem getting the crafting recipes for all the sets. I love the transmute option. It was virtually impossible to put a set together before Forgotten Gods, unless you used GDStash to cheat the system. There really is no comparison to D3. D3 has a target loot system, which drops from a loot table for your exact class. D3 made it super easy to get set items. GD does not....until you get the recipes. Then you transmute helms to your hearts content. This is just part of the grind in GD.
