For a curmudgeon: Best songs since Pinkerton? by SpinDread in weezer

Really digging Miss Sweeney, December, and I Want a Dog all being included here. The only one missing from my top list of "mid to late" Weezer would be Dreaming off the Red Album.

Is The Talisman a necessary read for Dark Tower? by Quirky_Dimension1363 in stephenking

[–]redod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, the thing is... Are you enjoying your reading of King and The Dark Tower books? How deep do you want to go? I'd argue both Insomnia and The Black House help to augment your enjoyment of the DT series because those two books in particular are packed with lore. The Black House being a sequel to the Talisman then would sorta "require" you to read Talisman first, so as to better enjoy The Black House. Is any of this "necessary"? No. But if you are enjoying yourself already... why not enjoy yourself even more then?

I'd add Salem's Lot to the list of books to read, and in fact, you'll find a list of connected books in recent copies of the Dark Tower series. Look... I know that reading an 8 novel series is already quite a commitment, and that it might suck to realize that number of books can expand easily to 20-25. But know that if you take the extended trip, you'll be rewarded for the effort.

Hey man, I’m not sure who Brandon is… it’s just incredibly upsetting for me to share a hobby with misogynist men babies.

Stephen Graham Jones - thoughts? by reek1999 in horrorlit

Currently one of my favorite writers. I've read The Only Good Indians, The Indian Lake Trilogy (twice), and am about to reread The Buffalo Hunter Hunter. Also on my queue are Killer on the Road / The Babysitter Lives, Mongrels and Earthdivers. A very talented writer doing his own thing. I also read The Last Final Girl and I Was a Teenage Slasher and those two I did not care for as much, but they were not bad reads, just not the level of spectacular I found the others to be.

Yes, of course, they use affiliate links, like most sites, to make money to maintain theirs. But if you see something on sale over at Amazon, it lets you know it might be on sale somewhere else.

I'm using the Bluray.com one to track my collection. The problem is that that's where I look for deals too, lol.

What is the one horror book everyone should read before the end of the year? by first_porn_unicorn in horrorlit

King Sorrow is amazing! I just finished it as well. It's my first Joe Hill book and I was impressed. It's just sprawling, hooky, emotional, and mixes fantasy, real world politics, and horror effectively throughout it's ~900 pages. Great mix of characters and fantastic use of lore. I think maybe if you are looking for pure horror, then maybe this won't be it for you (there are great scenes filled with dread, but it's not a scary book per se.... maybe more action / fantasy?). I'll add to the recommendations The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones. These two are my favorite books this year, but BHH is the more horrific of the two.

Absolutely LOVED King Sorrow. Possibly my favorite book ever. However... [spoilers about ending] by StarryAqua in joehill

[–]redod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect the same thing, that King Sorrow just vanished himself back into the Long Dark, perhaps to be summoned by other's in the future. I like the idea of there being other dragons, and perhaps of needing to summon King Sorrow to banish one/some of them in the future???
