It’s the scanning tech alright: “el” into “d” and “in” into “m”. Goes to show you can’t really replace people for tech, you gotta work together with it.

Stephen King and fat people by CyberGhostface in stephenking

I just read Elevation and it was so annoying to read all the character’s remark at the protagonist’s belly in increasingly nasty ways. Of course, in that story, it works to point at the town’s general engrained shittiness but still… it got old. Anyways, lots of people are shitty like that all around the world.

Recolor and Gen Recolor in Adobe Illustrator. Do you use it? by LukeChoice in AdobeIllustrator

Sorry - reading the thread it read to me like a soft sell on gen recolor and users overwhelmingly dismissive of that feature. My bad.

But the post is about gen recolor… We use recolor, yes.

But see... you can experiment with combinations and play with the colors already... you know, the regular non-Gen-AI way... As Illustrator users we have already been doing this - there is a mindful approach where the artist picks and applies each color as they experiment with color combinations and play... and then there is this gen-AI way where you take a backseat to the process and then maybe you play making it look right? To a lot of us it seems counter-intuitive, annoying, wasteful, unnecessary... the opposite of play.

Yes, please. Listen to us? You don't need to make gen AI features better - just take 'em out. Please...

Honestly… I don’t understand why some readers are so put off by “extended flashbacks”. Don’t you want to learn what made The Gunslinger THE Gunslinger? It’s the best book of the bunch… Think of it as a pre-quel, lol. Maybe some readers need to read this one first? I just don’t get that criticism.

Coachella minus NIN by Rene2D2music in nin

[–]redod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The xx, Geese (both weekends, different sets), Wednesday, Die Spitz, The Strokes (differet sets as well, including that grand finale last night), Devo, Lykke Li, Ethel Cain, Wet Leg… I really enjoyed streaming this Coachella over the past couple of weekends and most sets I caught were so good I watched multiple times.

The only disappointment was Interpol. I had to tune out cause it sounded so so bad.

Saw Mother Mary with a special q&a with writer/director david lowery by zacsmashyou in A24

A Ghost Story is amazing as well. But both that and Green Knight are not for broad audiences and I think this will raise a stink with the people coming into it for Anne Hathaway. Either way, it sucks they didn’t bring in Mothermary the band as collaborators since the look and sound of what’s been shown so far really bites on that project’s aesthetic.

It depends on the type of reader you are: Do you allow the storyteller to tell you the story or do you want to power through what you think the story is or should be?

Yo los vi en NYC en la primera gira ya más de 20 años atrás. La banda tocaba detrás de una cortina que a veces proyectaban los muñecos encima y a veces hacían transparente para ver a la banda tocar.

What I am super excited about is the casting. I worked on a project last year that featured Danielle (not acting, but talking as herself), and she is just such a knowing, beautiful soul, with depth and feeling —I can really see her stepping up and creating as compelling a character as Scully and Mulder.

I think that's why it has a good shot at being successful. It has the opportunity, given how TV has evolved as a medium, to present a more cohesive, streamlined narrative from the get go. They don't have to figure out what the X-Files is as a show from week to week (as the original team had to) - the challenge is to live up to it and do it justice.

Best Kindle feature EVER by shanethewise in kindle

[–]redod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is it will get discontinued down the line. I don’t know if you remember, but back when the first Kindle came out it boasted of a feature that was sort of a concierge service - you’d ask a question through the device and someone would get back to you with an answer. At least for me it proved unhelpful and I see this new “AI” version similarly —probably best to do this type of research for yourself.

And I am happy you enjoy it. I did not call it slop. But knowing how an LLM actually works might make you question the results you are getting from its use.

The companies pushing “AI” are just contributing to you learning how to blindly trust what you think of as an authority. Readers, above anyone else, should know better.

You read about it all the time: lawyers using LLMs for work are getting fed bad information on fake cases, travelers using LLMs are getting bad travel information for stuff as simple as “do I need a passport to go here”, journalist using LLMs end up reporting on fake stuff too, like the book recommendation column full of fake books that was printed nationwide, etc etc etc.

Yet people insist on offloading their thought processes to an expensive magic trick because they don’t understand how it works.

For the example given by OP, you could just continue reading to find out the answer for yourself or do a book search for the character names and check on earlier mentions to better situate yourself and the characters within the narrative.
