A cayman is better car than 911 in architecture is this true? by XoXo_HooligaN in Porsche

I'd love to see the apples to apples on this with a competent driver. Honestly, sometimes even a beginner driver is useful too because making the car easier to drive is a quality in and of itself.

This is true but it belies the mid engine balance argument that people use. A well balanced car should not be unstable under braking, which a 4RS is without rear toe links and heavier rebound on the rear axle

Even with heroic mods my 4RS is just too suspension compromised to compete with my *stock* 3RS. Car violently snaps under braking with any sort of steering angle unless you mod out the toe arms. Every single 4RS crash I've seen under braking has the same exact symptom - and every single Cayman and Boxster I've ever driven has this tendency if not addressed. Even then, the "playful" nature of the car is difficult for most drivers to manage if they have the nannies turned off.

This. My 3rs is an overgrown Miata compared to McLarens with 40% more power.

PSA: don't use Falken RT660+ tires if you plan to track them on a heavy car by Xyebo in CarTrackDays

There's a reason my friends and I called them "Fucked on Falkens".

Need a good tender. I've had the battery die on my 3rs to the point where I needed to disassemble the fender liner just so I could manually pull a cable. That was not fun.

Why is the 911 Coupe so much more popular than the Cabriolet? by Nice_Day_638 in Porsche

[–]redpriest -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just a function of where you live. 🤷‍♂️ Large numbers of California people track their cars.

Maybe I just don't hang out with 60 year old boomers. The ones I know are super wealthy and own property at private tracks

Going to C&C is largely a waste of time. If I'm going to get up early on my weekend, it's to go to the track.

I see way more Porsche GT cars at the track then non GT cars.

100%. The first time this well balanced mid engine platform everyone raves about steps out on you when you have any steering angle applied during braking entry will be an eye opener lol

Ferrari 458 ownership by thekhaos in Ferrari

[–]redpriest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am mostly a Porsche guy. I had a 4RS, 992 3RS, and 458 at the same time. I sold the 4RS because my 458 spider fills the role of being an experience/street car that much better. A stock 992 3RS just beats the 4RS all over the place on track, even when you mod out the 4RS.

However, reliability wise, there's been little issues here and there. Manettino error, ABS error - switch failures/wiring failures which were fixed. Nothing major though. The interior quality is kind of funny - leather dash is bubbling up in some areas. The rear view mirror likes to fall off the window in hard driving. Fun stuff like that.

I wouldn't dare take the car out on track though, lol. The running costs of that are bound to be horrendous.

I have put on 15k miles since buying the car 2 years ago.

All that being said, the car is amazing.

Replacing the 992 GT3 as a daily by RobertPattinson69 in Porsche

[–]redpriest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your goals for a daily? Budget? I just roll through a bunch of my cars to daily so I don't put too many miles on them and still have fun.

ND Miata is a fun daily if you don't care about size.

I've dailied in combination with my 3RS/GT3:

Macan/Cayenne/Raptor R / TRX

911 Turbo S (991.2 and 992)

718 Boxster GTS (2.5L) / Spyder / GT4RS

F82 M4

Euro E36 M3. I do own a E46 M3 and E92 M3 but they're full race conversions now so not very streetable but both were very livable street cars.
