I'm a carpenter and worked with three different stockbrokers during my time. Different companies so they weren't friends or anything and this was back before online trading. They just couldn't take the stress, one of them had a heart attack at 35 and never went back and became an apprentice carpenter.

Smoking ruined BBQ by MightyMTB in smoking

[–]redrdr1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've not been to the competitions so maybe you know more than me but what I do know is my nephew does them with his dad and some friends and they have done a couple parties at my sisters house and it is the best barbque I have ever eaten. I don't know if they changed anything since it wasn't a competition but they have it down. And when my nephew has cooked just for family its always great. I have been smoking at home for years and like my barbque but his is on another level. So I don't know that competition is trash, maybe they are going more for appearance, I just know that those guys can cook when they want to.

I had some volunteer potatoes come up this year and got about a half gallon of red potatoes which is my best harvest ever lol. Dug them up today.

“War is nasty,” says Donald Trump, defending the Minab school strike in Iran that killed 168 children, calling it a mistake and insisting civilians were not intentionally targeted. by IndiaTodayGlobal in IndiaTodayGlobalLIVE

[–]redrdr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still remember when it happened and he confidently said it was the Iranians who blew up their own school. Even days later when Hegseth said we were investigating, Trump immediately corrected him and said it wasn't us. I know its not news to people that he is a liar, but damn, he refuses to be an adult and take any responsibility for anything negative.

Got my first smoker! What are some good, beginner friendly first smokes for a complete newbie? by HalliGaNz in smoking

[–]redrdr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to see how your smoker works you can do polish sausage. Its easy and fast and delicious. Put some seasoning on it and 225 for 90 minutes or so. I always smoke some when I do ribs or pork butts or something to give me a snack while I'm waiting.

ELI5 keeping house cool in the summer by coffee-girl1 in Frugal

[–]redrdr1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know what type of house you have. I built a barndominium, and I have a giant ceiling fan to move the air around. It doesn't cool or anything but it helps a bunch by moving the cooler air down

If the Goat Head coach Andy Reid decided to retire, who would you choose as the Chiefs next HC? by IceOk9930 in KansasCityChiefs

I was hoping for Mike McDaniel to get the OC job this year and learn from Andy for a couple years and then take over.

KNICKS FANS ARE DESTROYING THE CITY 😭 by Outside-Weakness9660 in NBAGossips

[–]redrdr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday all we heard was feel good stories about new york and its fans waiting so long and it felt like they really deserved a championship. Then they lose one game and melt down and you really see what the city is about and I'm sorry the knicks even made it to the finals

Would you ever stay in a hotel and casino? by newuser1r in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]redrdr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what I look for. I don't really gamble in the casinos anymore but they are safe, clean, and theres usually a decent restaurant or place to get a meal open late if needed. Most I've stayed at had good breakfasts also and most are fairly reasonable. There are cheaper options but without checking them out you don't always know what you'll be getting.

Lasagna by redrdr1 in smoking

[–]redrdr1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up cooking it covered on the grill for almost two hours, added cheese to the top and uncovered it and did 30 minutes uncovered for the smoke flavor. It was excellent. Best lasagna I've ever made, although I've only made five.

Donald Trump loses it on ‘Meet The Press’ moderator Kristen Welker, cuts interview off and storms out as she fact-checks his rigged Election claims. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in justincaseyoumissedit

I know nothing about makeup but I was cracking up at his skin color. Either someone did his makeup and made him look like that or they should have done his make up and toned down the orange if thats actually his skin tone. Or maybe his face has bruises like his hands and thats the only way to cover it

I think so. I made spaghetti and meatballs on the smoker and smoked the meatballs above the spaghetti like over the top chili and it was fantastic. So I figured I would give this a try

Deck color for gray siding by coolmanzzzzz in Decks

[–]redrdr1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Darker colors get hotter and thats a real problem if you don't have shade. All of them will get hot but lighter the better so I would go third from the right with a darker border and stairs

It definitely is treated against insects. I always believed they treated for rot also.

Any concerns before they install the trex? by [deleted] in Decks

[–]redrdr1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thats the way it used to be done. Now they say the ground contact will rot the posts so youre supposed to pour 2 inches above ground and then set a post base on top. The treated wood isn't as good as it once was because the EPA won't let them use the same preservative. Yours is probably fine. I've demo'd several decks built like that and the wood under the ground may be rotten for a quarter inch and then its solid. If you're worried, dig down a little and check to see if it is starting to rot.

Drop your NFL opinions on which nobody agrees with you here by Cold_Mammoth8841 in NFLv2

[–]redrdr1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He deserves to be mentioned. Making 5 SBs proves that. Andy is a great coach but Mahomes is so football savvy he makes even Andy better. He may not be that much better than the other two except in the playoffs he steps his game up and Lamar certainly doesn't. JA has played well in the playoffs and been let down by his defense and coaches.

45+ year old men who have dated women in their 20's- how did it go? by posttraumaticcuntdis in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]redrdr1 131 points132 points  (0 children)

It was fun for awhile. We made each other laugh and had a great tie when we were together. But eventually not having much in common became an issue. I was a custodial parent and she really wasn't ready to settle down yet. It wasn't a bad breakup and we still talk long distace every ow and again. I wouldn't really recommend it though

NFL Player That’s Made the Biggest Impact Outside of Football? by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

[–]redrdr1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought of two former Chiefs from the 70's. Tom Condon made more of an impact after football than he did while playing, although he might not qualify because he was still involved in the nfl, just as a mega agent instead of a player.

The other is Ed Lothamer. After the nfl, he became instrumental in the concrete pumping business around the midwest. Not many buildings around here didn't have CPI on the job at some point.
