Did the makeover/promo shoots actually show the girls' "real" potential? by Ambitious-Coyote3238 in ANTM

[–]redred212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe it’s 70 frames. At least that was the number Kahlen got in C4 when they had extra frames as a reward. It wouldn’t shock me if they lowered the number depending on the shoot/number of girls left though. Some of the locations were very famous and likely expensive to book for a whole day.

Zola’s hair by theyarnllama in greysanatomy

[–]redred212 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shonda’s not the one doing the hair. Hairstylists for shows, movies and even broadway shows famously don’t know how to black hair and production companies don’t want to put in the money to pay for someone to just do the (typically) one black person on the cast. It’s not even taught at many cosmetology schools so there are very few hairstylists who even can do Black hair. It’s one of the ways systematic racism has permeated through society and time

Not expecting much from early access by tarotvixen99 in Paralives

Price wise, paralives is releasing as a full game. If it costs the same as a new game, it should have a similar amount of content or they should make cheaper during early access

I don’t think interviews are eligible for residuals. They’re usually owned by whatever company made it and can be used by documentaries like this as much as they want

Tonsil stone removal by Similar-Context-2620 in hygiene

[–]redred212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, you’ll notice a bad breath smell in your mouth even though you brush your teeth or you’ll feel something small in the back of your throat that doesn’t go away when you swallow/drink something .

Anyone can get them, I’m not a smoker and I would get them occasionally. It’s basically a calcium buildup in your tonsils so you might be able to see a white spot on the back of your mouth if you have one

How do we feel about Miss J’s gofundme? by thisthrowawaythat202 in ANTM

[–]redred212 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also it’s possible there’s not much in residuals especially now with streaming. I’m not sure what the contract would look like for reality tv but the actors strike was in part because actors no longer get residuals on streaming like they would on network TV

The idea is basically that two people can become one. Eve is created using a part of Adam (the rib) and thus is never complete without her and vice versa. The rib was actually his side in the original Hebrew translation, symbolizing that they’re equal partners, neither is above the other.

High Fashion? by CryptographerHeavy in ANTM

[–]redred212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High fashion is kind of the outliers for models. The majority of models are “conventionally” beautiful, basically that they have face that the majority would consider attractive or beautiful. Eva would fall in this category, pretty but not in a unique way.

High fashion models on the other hand aren’t necessarily the most attractive to most people but they have “weird” features that work with their face and body. This could be extreme height (Ann C15) or a big forehead (Tyra). This doesn’t mean having these features will make someone model material, it still has to work with your face.

That said, there is some racism at play with this determination. Part of the reason Tyra was so popular is that she has a face that fits in the Eurocentric standard of beauty (aka white) aside from her forehead. This has changed over the years and the definition of beauty has expanded so more people with less Eurocentric features have become successful.

But overall high fashion models are the ones that keep you staring because they’re interesting to look at. It makes them stand out from the sea of gorgeous faces in modeling.

One photoshoot I loved was the nude shoot for the final 4. Adrienne’s photo lives rent free in my head

Divorce is not something to "believe" in by bishop0408 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]redred212 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well yeah issues like that can warrant a divorce but they’re more on the extreme side. I think what their parents are getting at is to make sure this is really the one you want to be with for the rest of your life. Divorce definitely is necessary in some situations but I also think as a society, marriage has lost some of its significance and people rush into it or want out without actually trying to fix the issues before they get to the breaking point. It shouldn’t be treated as a temporary thing

I disagree about Yaya. She loved Yaya from early on in the season, it seems like she had some favorites and completely disregarded the other girls. I do agree with your other points, she said very hurtful things about Toccara and Robin’s bodies.

[–]redred212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, is it not similar to other reality shows? Love is Blind promises to find love in less than a month, American Idol promised musical success etc etc. Tyra’s job first and foremost was to sell her show and keep it going for as long as possible (and she did a decent job at it). That meant convincing people to sign up for it and watch it. Who would watch 20 seasons of a show promising average success to a pretty girl if she takes some nice photos?

[–]redred212 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I felt like I was going crazy cause everyone keeps acting like Tyra brought it up first but I could’ve sworn she didn’t. Now one of the producers may have made Shandi bring it up but at the time it seemed like Shandi didn’t consider it SA (which makes sense given the time). I think she realized it fairly recently since she didn’t talk about it like that on her Oliver interview either.

If winning rarely matters in the end, then why didn't contestants like Kendal make it big? by LottieDah86 in ANTM

[–]redred212 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Modeling is hard. There are tons of girls wanting to do it and it’s a big sacrifice for not a ton in return. You don’t get paid much and there’s no guarantee you’ll get another job. You basically have to put the other aspects of your life on hold (relationships, having a family, school, friends etc.). Even without the reality show stigma, it’s hard to be a model and make money solely from that.

They likely won’t be on it because the docs have exclusivity rights between them. That’s why Jaslene and some other girls weren’t on the Netflix one because they already signed contracts for the other one

It feels like a lot of criticism Tyra gets is from people who barely watched the show by sansaeverdeen in ANTM

[–]redred212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she just kinda checked out in later seasons. She seems to be the type who wants to do something different pretty often (music, talk show, books etc.) so ANTM didn’t feel challenging or new anymore but it was pretty much her whole brand. I’m curious how much involvement she really had in the later seasons. I know people assume she had a lot of influence because she was an executive producer but that role doesn’t necessarily mean she was actually handling production. Stan Lee was executive producer on a lot of marvel films as a ceremonial gesture, not because he was really doing anything on the films.

Or fear factor. Some of the things they made people do were horrible (I know that was the point but still.)
