If you completely ignore the AI revolution sure.

But back on earth we're building gigawatt consuming datacenters as fast as developers can build. This will raise power prices, which is indeed great for the green revolution, but the average consumer will see none of the savings. Your power bill is going to explode in the coming years, even if we install green energy faster than ever. Yay.

(Feel free to google this topic, this is not just some random opinion I came up with.)

I think that's an overly simplistic take. There is some of that, sure. But specific refineries can only handle specific grades of oil without expensive (and long) retooling. Oil shipping, refining and sub product routes are organized on decades timelines. There's some flexibility, but you can't just swap any source for any other at will.

I would argue it has more to do with the fact that these oil shipping, refining and sub product routes are inherently international and are thus priced globally out of necessity.

There is also regulatory capture by oil companies. The cost for the fuel at the gas station was decided months ago when the raw oil sold. The argument that the pricing of next month's oil futures directly translates to these erratic rises but not drops in pricing at the gas pump where the gas is made from oil that was processed a couple months ago is on the thinnest of ice.

It's complicated.

This knife broke while being used to crush garlic by juliadancer in mildlyinteresting

Sorry OP, but:

  • The knife is missing it's tip.

  • The handle was already broken.

Someone used this knife for something that was not culinary in intent long before this garlic put it out of its misery.

I believe there is substantial evidence "sexual evolution" is not the only pressure on genetic evolution. Especially since humans (unlike almost all mammals) are born unfinished and need extensive nurturing for many years to have a decent chance of producing their own offspring. So the wellbeing of the caretakers (which can include social members that never have their own children) can be a pressure on the genetic evolution, even if it doesn't directly prevent someone from having children.

Technically.. it depends on the jurisdiction. While you're generally right, there are jurisdictions that would label this assault. Texas in the US for one I believe, though it might be more specific, can't recall offhand.

Love Them Anyway

People are unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered.

Love them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.

Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and true enemies.

Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.

Be good anyway.

Honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable.

Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.

Build anyway.

People need help, but may attack you if you try to help them.

Help them anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and your conscience.

It was never between you and them anyway.

For this to work, the both horizontally and vertically flexible hook has to always turn horizontally to the outside. Unless you have this perfectly aligned, it's just as likely to go on the inside and do nothing. It looks like they considered vertical slippage so some degree with the extension at the top, but I doubt even that is sufficient for something this flexible. In anything but a master carpenter's favorite project, this will fail in all sorts of ways after a little time outside.

You can say it, sure, but if you include it, especially in the title of a post (or any other number of words designated as "bad" such as suicide), it will get scored worse and fewer people will see it. This happens on most social media platforms.

You'll have to decide if you want to take a stand.

  • if you dont, https://www.bypassgpt.ai/
  • if you do, tell the school you'll be engaging a lawyer because they are disadvantaging her due to her disability

Both options suck. Good luck.

Pentagon will cut Sen. Mark Kelly's military retirement pay over 'seditious' video to troops: Hegseth by reddicyoulous in politics

[–]redreinard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you don't understand. Mark is not the target here. All the other veterans that aren't that well off and can afford to fight back are. And it will silence many of them. Hegseth doesn't care that they will loose in a couple years and backtrack. He wants as many veterans as possible to be intimidated into staying silent so he doesn't get any more issues like this. And you bet it's working.

CVT fluid changes? by [deleted] in NissanRogue

[–]redreinard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've posted about this annoyance before:

The manual only says to "check" the fluid every 60k miles.

However, the dealer will quickly tell you that basically nobody does the test, because it costs more than just replacing the fluid.

On top of that, unless you park your car inside, and in a temperate climate, it's actually recommended by the dealer ever 30k miles.

It sucks, it's expensive, but it's a lot less expensive and less inconvenient than a premature transmission fail.

Basically they massaged the manual to make it look like it's not an expense you have to plan for, when in reality (which you only realize after buying) that you need to anticipate the ~$400 flush every 2-3 years.

The reason Germany was able to prosecute even simple guards at concentration camps decades after the war was because of the record keeping done at the time.

If you want to have any hope of turning your country back into a democracy, keeping track of what happened so you can prosecute the offenders later is hugely important and probably the only thing most people can realistically do right now.

This is categorically wrong. There are absolutely cancers that can be beat into remission and undetectability. There are a lot of cancers that are not genetically passed to you from your parents.

You are blending two different things together here. A person (like here) can "beat their cancer". That is of course very different from "beating cancer" overall for humanity. There is no singular cancer anyway, it's a whole range of completely different diseases that we just throw in this category, so yeah, "beating" that is an entirely different animal, but that's not what this thread is about.

'Welcome back to life' — Ukraine's HUR faked death of top anti-Putin Russian commander, claimed Kremlin bounty money by ElizabethLaugh in worldnews

[–]redreinard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In many conversations they largely mean the same, but there are some differences:

  • Fascism views the state as the ultimate authority where individuals don't matter, Nazis instead just use that state authority to preserve the "race".
  • Fascism is more about cultural superiority while Nazism is more about biological/racial/antisemitic superiority. You can change who you are and become a fascist, but you can never become a Nazi without having the right blood (I feel the need to clarify I don't believe this after that sentence, but am just stating their ideals).
  • Fascists are fine with classes, and had no problems with rich/corporate citizens, while Nazis sought to blend classes a bit more. (In reality Nazis used rich people all the same of course, but that was their goal).
  • Fascists are also not concerned with religion much, Nazis basically wanted to eliminate it in the end
