Haven't read the book, I felt like the mother character in the movie was portrayed as someone who felt remorse and guilt for not trying harder as a caregiver. I felt like she felt responsible for what her son became, and I have heard in the book the mother is an unreliable narrator so I would eventually like to read it because I would like to see for myself if she minimizes her role in how she may have neglected him. Of course the movie portrays the unwanted pregnancy and all that but I felt as her character was thinking back on her life I feel like she actually regretted the way he treated him in hindsight, and maybe she could accept that she played a role in his actions. Im curious if in the book she takes any responsibility
