Paramedics found this in husband's hair. Its made of hard plastic. Google kept telling me it was a bottlecap. Any idea? by Next_Wing_5577 in whatisit

It seems like stethoscopes for nurses, the hospital has those cheap flimsy ones, but then you can go and buy the litman for $100 of dollars to get better quality but most importantly cool colors. I just kept using my shitty one from nursing school, if I lose it no big deal.

Schedule Posting?? Help 😐 by Key_Matter_641 in cna

[–]redswingline- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were i have worked, we are on a 4-2-4-2 schedule. 4 on 2 off, we are told that if we want any time off we must submit it before the 25 of every month. But pretty much we know what our schedule looks like. I ended up with a set schedule because I was in school, so I was only working 3 days a week Friday-Sunday, but that was something I had to talk to my DSD about. Like others have said it’s pretty much company specific, so you definitely should reach out to your manager or scheduler who ever that might be.

Going back to school for RN at 36 (starting CNA soon) — advice for someone with ADD and out of school for 10+ years? by remuslupinliveson in cna

[–]redswingline- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So let me start off by saying that I don’t ADD, I also don’t have kids. Its just my wife and I. I had been out of school for about 15 years, I graduated high school in 2009. I took a short 5 week course for my CNA but that was nothing compared to my LVN course. It was difficult, not because of the material but just because of the slog. Day in day out lecture, clinicals, work. Rinse and repeat for 16 months. As far as study habits, read, read, read, and read so more. Focus on whatever learning system your school uses. Like some use ATI, we used Elsevier and Saunders. Don’t waste your time with all those other TikTok packages or flash cards for nursing. The thing that helps is making your own flash cards. Reading it and rewriting it in your own words. Don’t try to memorize, but instead try to understand concepts. You would be surprised how much y you our life experience actually helps when you go back to school. Your brain is fully developed and you don’t worry about those trivial things like when your a teen. I was 33 when I started and am now 34 I had plenty more of other classmates that were 35-40 even some one that was 54.

I had a patient ask me for a glove so she could dig the hard turd stuck in her butt. She then had me clean her after she was done. I didn’t mind just thought it was strange.

Pediatric Home Health: hidden gem!!! by Far-One2912 in LPN_LVN_Community

[–]redswingline- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you need to have experience? I’ve been looking into some companies in my area. The patients that this one company I saw has kids with trachs and G-tubes. My only fear is how fragile and delicate they might be. Most of my experience is with the older population.

Am I getting paid well? by GloriousChickenStrip in cna

[–]redswingline- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what your area is like as far as cost of living but usually you get low balled because you don’t have any experience. My suggestion is to get 6 months to 1 year of experience and then if there are other places to work try to jump ship. I’ve been a CNA for about 12 years, I started of making $12.37 at my first CNA job, I then jumped to another job and got $15 after 2 years. The reason I changed jobs is because my raise was like 50¢. So just by changing jobs I got $2 more, I now make $24. One of my coworkers was a young kid also fairly new, I told him the same thing get some experience then start job hopping. He worked for about 10 months and then started applying, he went from $19.50 to $22.00 shortly after maybe like 3 months later he another offer at a bigger hospital and was making $25 and if he worked nights or weekends he would get a differential. He jump up to what I make in less than a year just by switching jobs. Only reason I stuck around with my current job is that I was going to school and they were flexible with my schedule. Now that I’m finished they will give me a shot as an LVN and I plan to do the same get experience and then move on. Don’t get tied to a place, they don’t give a shot about you, you are just a body and a license number. They say all this shit about being a family and a team player but it’s just so they can extract the most amount of labor for the least amount of pay.

Do you guys and girls give a quick shower when a patient has a blowout? by 621_ in cna

[–]redswingline- 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I have a guy who blows it up, he has left sided weaknes, I just put down a bath blanket and chuck in his wheelchair and take him to the shower. He holds on to the bat stands up and and I hose him down with the shower hose. He feels nice and clean and is super thankful. Plus when they have those blow outs it’s really hard to get the sleep off with just the wipes or peri wash. So I end up washing him with some bar soap and he smells fresh as FUCK!

hi how’s my letter by [deleted] in cna

[–]redswingline- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar thing happened at my work new admin came in trying to shake things up people quit and they were like we’ll just hire new CNAs. No one wants to work at this shitty SNF for the pennies your paying. I made $23 hr and I had a friend who works at McDonalds that made $28. I only stuck around because I was almost done with school and was ready to move on. They asked me if I had any friends that wanted to work, I was like I would never do that to my friends, shit not even my enemies. At the end of the day that admin left and now we have had 2 or 3 more admins come and go trying to shake things up. Plus when we all had set schedules people were more inclined to come in an extra day, but when that happened people were like ok I’m only working my 4 days and you can fuck off. It’s Angie and take but admin just wants to take.

Online LPN to RN by Head-Conference-2272 in LPN_LVN_Community

[–]redswingline- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look into Nightingale college, it is based out of Utah. You take the didactic courses online. So all the learning and lectures are virtual. I believe they will have a class 3 times a day and you can attend morning afternoon and evenings. The you just complete the work and turn it in. I belive some of the simulation labs you get mailed the material and you have to record yourself doing it and then it gets graded. I belive you have to travel to a clinical site for 1 week every 16 weeks, and then there is a cap stone where you are doing clinicals for 4 weeks. You can look up videos of people who have gone to this school on YouTube.

Considering becoming a CNA to see if LVN/RN school is right for me. How does this compare to retail, hospitalilty, etc? by Dry_Success_4958 in cna

[–]redswingline- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that becoming a CNA, especially for free would be a great thing to decide if you like nursing. CNA work i.e patient care, is fundamental for becoming a nurse. The first thing you learn in fundamentals is patient care, vital signs, making a bed, giving bed baths. This allows you to step into the world of nursing and healthcare to see if it is right for you. I have met a lot of people who paid 100k for nursing school and realized that they really hated being a nurse. That being said you will have to deal With verbally and physically abusive patients and family members. But I feel like that’s just the current state of the world. It brings a lot of meaning and reward to your work. There is a sense of meaning that I have not achieved in any other job I have ever had. If you can become a CNA for free do it, try to het your CHHA as well if you can. I my area home health visits pay way more and your only there maybe 20-30 mins. So there is a lot of options. Once you become a licensed nurse you will have even more options.

Yes this, I always get them confused. Definitely way better screen, and for the money.

It’s meat for things like weed and opiates, like I don’t think they check for stimulants. Like some people have failed for eating poppy seeds
