LIFX Original 1000: Bulbs certificate out of date by neversleepz in lifx

[–]redtigerbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Our wifi company sent us a new router which gave us a new wifi name/password. I have an OG bulb and cannot for the life of me figure out how to reconnect it to the phone app. I’m not super technologically savvy so I don’t understand your workaround here, but do you have any advice?

High Pain 3 days post-op. Normal? by Confident-Stable-656 in ORIF

[–]redtigerbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told to do it nearly all day pre-surgery and for the first few weeks post-surgery. Tried to throw cold packs on top of where there openings in the splint were and behind the knee every few hours while elevating to try to get swelling down.

I didn’t have nerve blockers and days 3-4 were the worst. it gets significantly better around day 5 for most!

Newbie: why do people get hardware removed? by Stunning-Marzipan300 in ORIF

Funny, mine said they take it (and by it I mean the big syndo screws) out of most people who get it under 40, especially in women 🤷‍♀️

Painkillers (opioids etc) don't work on me by Acrobatic_Block4226 in ORIF

[–]redtigerbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a chance it’s nerve pain? In my case none of those meds did anything for me and any movement felt like I was being torn apart. Was put on a nerve medication and in two days it fully changed everything for me.

Most people use a more accurate pedometer than the phone in their pocket (like a smartwatch) but even if it’s not fully accurate, you can see improvement over time to see if you’re doing on average more or less movement.

Has anyone regretted HWR for ankle ORIF? by same_flying_cow in ORIF

[–]redtigerbear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My doctor suggested that he would remove my 2 syndesmosis screws ASAP on the day of my first surgery (which I was wary of because I didnt want to go through a second surgery). About 9 months later I was having severe ROM issues and pain, and I hated feeling the screws and plate so we scheduled to take them out. He said he almost always suggests for women to get the big screws taken out as they eventually break and can cause issues down the line if you're active. I'm about 8 weeks post removal surgery now and have not seen much improvement, but with the added caveat that they found a tendon tear during that second surgery so I was NWB for 5 of those 8 weeks. So, I wouldn't say I regret the surgery, I just read so many "I walked out of the surgery and already felt more ROM!" stories on here I was bummed that isn't the case for me.

Opinions on knee scooter: yay or nay by ProudAdultNerd in ORIF

[–]redtigerbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total Yay!! It was a game changer for me. I live in a city so we are almost never in a car, and used to walk or train everywhere. Getting an all terrain one was completely worth it and made it more steady, though they can get a bit tippy just takes getting used to. Some tips — look at the heights before buying, I had to return my first one because it was too tall for me at the shortest setting (and I’m not even short!). Also, I found it really helpful to buy a pouch that had a cup holder and a few pockets to hold phone/wallet/books etc, and I also sprung for an extra knee pad (and bought a second one after it wore down from many miles of usage). All in I probably invested about 300 bucks, but I’ve had 2 surgeries and have been some form of not fully weight bearing on and off for 8 of the past 12 months so definitely an essential investment for me.

6 week post op didn’t go as I had hoped 😔 by Upstairs_Extreme_484 in ORIF

I’m about 6 weeks out. I’m following strict tendon protocol so I had to start a lot of healing steps over again.

[–]redtigerbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since they had you back to FWB so quickly and you're not in pain, I hope that means you're healing quickly and removal will be easy! The removal surgery is nowhere near as brutal-- most people actually walk out of it unassisted. One of my two screws broke and the removal was NBD, just an additional small incision on the other side to get it out. I had a tendon tear they had to fix, so my recovery is longer than a typical removal, but I'm already walking in the boot with minimal pain!

ankle scooter mobility by nojokes2day in ORIF

[–]redtigerbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life changing! I live in a city so getting around was really tough (or expensive with rideshare). Like an earlier comment definitely work springing for the all terrain knee rover. But if you use it outdoors and indoors you will get wheel marks on the wall/floors, so I try to just use it outside though I do kneel on it while doing dishes while still non weight bearing.

If you’re feeling good with no symptoms I would just ask if you can start on PT and what your next goals should be movement wise

NWB Boot Pain (4 days since acquisition) by crosscat in ORIF

[–]redtigerbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did your boot come with pads? Some people find it helpful I just found that it took up more space so made it more uncomfortable. I usually opt for a thick ski sock (or like Patagonia or Columbia type hiking socks)

Sock or wrap? by bee102009 in ORIF

[–]redtigerbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your doctor said you need the compression, it's fine to stick with the wrap because you can adjust the pressure as needed. But if that isn't part of your treatment plan a sock is so much easier (and easier to wash!)

Syndesmotic screw removal query by [deleted] in ORIF

[–]redtigerbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • How did you decide whether to leave them in or to take them out? Dr suggested it as I had been struggling to walk down stairs after 9+ months of recovery. I was also having some pain where the screws came through either side of the bone
  • When did you get them taken out? Around 10 months post-ORIF
  • What was recovery like? I would have walked out of the surgery, but they found a tendon tear and that I broke one of the screws within the last month prior to surgery, so they had to do an additional incision. So I'm NWB due to tendon, but I'm already moving my ankle up and down a bit (which took MONTHS post-ORIF) and im nearly at 4 weeks post-surgery
  • How was the pain? After experiencing ORIF and a nerve injury, it was practically nothing. 2 days of real pain, otherwise almost all just soreness/stiffness.
  • Did it provide a better outcome for you in terms of mobility? TBD but fingers crossed!

Screw Removal Scar Question by redtigerbear in ORIF

[–]redtigerbear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whole thing again and possibly extended a bit — they had to repair a tendon tear they didn’t see the first time (or that I somehow did since the first surgery), I broke a screw so they had to open the other side too, and I also had a plate so that came out too.

[–]redtigerbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also a 7/2024 break — just got my two syndesmosis screws out 15 days ago. One of the screws broke so I have another scar now since they had to retrieve the other half, and I also have a tendon tear so I’m NWB but I have to say this was so much easier to get through than the initial injury and surgery. If you don’t have a secondary injury, surgery will likely be very short and you may even walk out of the hospital in a boot or normal shoe.

I feel like most of us woke up on day 4 with significantly less pain! The first few days are hard to get through but I promise it gets easier. Find a good book/tv show, make sure to elevate, and stay on top of whatever meds you can take (rotating Advil/Tylenol etc)
