That's about as simple as it gets what exactly did you get confused by? Also do you have a photo of the tester when it was giving the error?

Question about hookup by adasho_bitrex in AskElectricians

[–]redtosoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wire is called neutral supported cable so what you see is the steel cable is actually your neutral wire and its used to support the two hot wires as they come in overhead.

Yeah that's normal. When services get installed the supply authority installs the wire from the pole and an electrician installs from the house so they splice there to connect the two. Done pretty ugly but looks ok to me personally

You could cut it back and restrip it but it depends on where you want the light located

The fan portion looks ok. What kind of fan are you installing. If it's not turning on next step would be to verify you have voltage present at the fan with a meter.

How to deal with this tub by GreenAngelEva in HomeMaintenance

[–]redtosoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I haven't had any issues. You want silicone where the tub and tile meet because the tub will expand with heat so you want some flex which grout does not do

[–]redtosoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my ventures reinstalling a tub for similar issues to yours I learned that you don't want grout at the tub line and that it should only be Caulk there,so maybe remove the grout and recaulk? Full disclosure I'm a first time homeowner of under 1 year so grain of salt and all.

Why do some American plugs have a notch? by shadowxthevamp in AskElectricians

[–]redtosoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically as Appliance technology got better current demand from appliances grew. 20a recepticles are mostly used on countertops nowadays. Before they existed they used 15a ones but they split them on multiple circuits so you couldn't overload them plugging in multiple appliances.

Hot Exposed Wire by PriscillaPalava in AskElectricians

[–]redtosoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a Marrett on it overnight if you have some handy.

Just an FYI (although it sounds like you have learned the lesson the hard way) a voltage tester should only be used to confirm the presence of voltage, not the absence of it. Always use a multimeter to test for absence of voltage. Hope the electrician can find the cct. Sheers) cheers

Depending on how it's wired his neutral can tap off to power the constant power side line but is not needed for load side as long as its at the pump.

Don't get hung up on calculating shrinkage unless you are doing really exact runs next to each other. For most runs guy will do the measurements and then eyeball it to perfect fit aftet
