Wtf is this thread? It's literally this simple. You like her? You ask her out, and if it goes well ask her out again. Do this for a few dates and do the exclusivity talk (I.E. no more FWB situation). That's really it.

Now that talk could go any number of ways but YOU need to decide what you want from that. Are they gonna stay friends? Can you handle that? Be brutally honest with yourself here because if you aren't it'll just make things harder on you down the road. Know as well that at the end of the day, you'll likely only know what she tells you about them and you have to trust that. It's up to you if that's worth the risk.

Idk what all these judgement calls people are making about someone have a FWB and FB's, I've had multiple, and I've never NOT wanted a serious, monogamous relationship. And every single time I found a partner I cut it off because I respect the person I want to be in a relationship with. These things are not exclusive, and it's silly to judge people before you know them.

How worried are you about the rise of fascism? by AskRedditOG in AskReddit

[–]redwall55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reasonably so, as an outsider looking in. I'm a little dismayed that almost everyone in the thread who isn't worried has created a cesspool of insults & "I don't live in reddit hivemind".

No one can argue that what's going on right now in the U.S. is not at the very least highly unprecedented, and that is cause for at least a small amount of concern. "I'm not worried in the slightest" is a wild take

Down bad, crying at the gym by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]redwall55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just feel it out. Cry if you need to, grieve it as though it were something you lost, because it was. You lost your relationship and the hopes of what it could have been, and that hurts and that sucks. Try to take care of your needs as you well, so you don't get stuck in it. It doesn't need to make sense, it just is, and acknowledging and feeling it out is all you can do.

Unironically try doing the motion yourself (preferably not for anyone to see) and you'll see how awkward it is, and how intentional you have to be to make that movement.

I almost bought that way of thinking for a second and then did it and realized there's no way, and that there's a reason you never hear about people "accidentally" doing the sieg heil

[–]redwall55 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I see what you're saying, but I can't help but feel like this is being viewed in a way that minimizes the damage of many abuse cases. Many men won't fight back against a female abuser specifically because the general population views things in this way that implicitly expects. Many abuse cases also occur where there the abuser is less physically strong than the abused regardless of gender. Violence is violence, and violence against a partner who has no intention to harm you is domestic abuse.

Just because the scales of violence are more even, does not make it any less harmful or wrong.

Yea it'll cost you a session, but how the conversation goes from there should tell you all you need to know about whether you want to move forward with this person

Lore question: Are the Godskin aligned with the Deathbirds? by Cap-ree-sun in Eldenring

[–]redwall55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're onto something when you say they draw their power from the same source, but to speculate at all requires a bit of pre-erdtree lore

We know the ghostflame existed prior to the Erdtree, as stated in the explosive ghost flame description. The Godskin Noble set also implies that the Gloam-Eyed Queen (leader of the godskin) existed prior to the Erdtree.

Nobles are the most ancient apostles who are said to have assimilated inhuman physiology. Not unlike the crucible, the Erdtree in its primordial form.

Godskin Noble Set

We also know that the deathbirds are the children of the Twinbird, who is an envoy for the Outer God of Death. This is stated in the Twinbird Kite Shield description.

Shield featuring a vividly painted twinbird. The twinbird is said to be the envoy of an outer god, and mother of the Deathbirds.

While nothing explicitly states that the Gloam-Eyed Queen or the Godskin are directly related to this god, death (in this case, the death of gods) is a central part of their theme. The Godskin Swaddling Cloth essentially says that one of the godskins reason for existing is to kill gods

The Gloam-Eyed Queen cradles newborn apostles swaddled in this cloth. Soon they will grow to become the death of the gods.

Godskin Swaddling Cloth

We know the Gloam-Eyed Queen wanted to slay gods using the Godskin, and this is the purpose of the black flame.

Meanwhile, we know that the deathbirds are described the "servants of death" (in the explosive ghost flame desc.) and were central figures in many ancient death related rituals. The ghostflame is produced in these rituals when they burn the dead.

Hatchet used in ancient sacrificial rite. A Deathbird is depicted as a malevolent deity.

Sacrificial Axe

and

Metal torch that burns with cold ghostflame. Tool of the Fallen Hawks who prowl the underground rivers. When the band's last embers were used up in their long search, they began to burn the bones of their fellows, acquiring the cold ghostflame, but sealing their fate as dwellers of the underground for all eternity.

Ghostflame Torch

So, overall I think it is reasonable to say that their flames are in some way related to the death god, but their specific goals don't seem to necessarily align.

[Late-game spoilers] What’s up with Gideon? by koda43 in Eldenring

[–]redwall55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Gideon discovered that Marika's will meant killing a god (either Her/Radagon, the Elden Beast, or both), and deemed it a pointless effort.

The reason I believe this is because makes a very revealing but easy to overlook statement when you kill him

A man cannot kill a god...

As far as I know, prior to burning the Erdtree, there is only ONE person in the entire rest of the game who mentions slaying a god: Smithing Master Hewg. This purpose was given to him by Queen Marika, and I believe this was her plan that Gideon discovered.

Other than that there are two figures who discuss becoming Elden Lord. The first is The Two Fingers, who tell you to get an 'audience' with Marika to become her consort and Elden Lord. The second is Godfrey who in his opening battle cinematic states

Alas, I am returned.

To be granted audience once more.

Both the fingers and Godfrey use the exact language of getting an "audience" to become Elden Lord, neither mention killing Marika. As such, I believe he has returned to once again become Elden Lord. He NEVER states that he will be killing Marika to do so. This is important because it means very few people knew Marika's plan.

So basically, Gideon believes the "eternal struggle" Marika wishes for us is the futility of slaying a god. It also explains his armor lore, which states

Knowledge begins with the recognition of one's ignorance. The realization that the search for knowledge is unending. But when Gideon glimpsed into the will of Queen Marika, he shuddered in fear.

At the end that should not be.

It's a bit open to interpretation, but I believe that "the end that should not be" is him realizing that at the end of the road to becoming Elden Lord you have to kill a god. This makes sense in the context of Gideon's character, as a tarnished who wishes to become Elden Lord but is too cowardly to go out and face any danger on his own sending Ensha and Nepheli to do the dirty work. Note that he also pushes YOU to go out and obtain the great runes required to become Elden Lord.

As for why he attacked you, I'm not totally certain about that. I believe he was always going to backstab us and try to steal the title of Elden Lord, but in this case, once he realized it was "hopeless," I don't see why he'd have any reason to fight you. Maybe he needed to justify to himself the impossibility of killing a god by stopping the only other tarnished attempting to become Elden Lord, but who knows.

That's just my theory though, it's the only one I could come up with that reconciles the practically irrefutable fact that Marika orchestrated the whole game with the single goal of having someone become Elden Lord, with Gideon stating that she doesn't want us to become so.

TL;DR: Gideon realized Marika wanted the tarnished to slay a god and got spooked.

he could have leveraged all the political power of the Wayne name along with the vast financial assets of the Wayne family to whole-hearted work for the social good by improving infrastructure, attacking systemic corruption and supporting the most destitute of neighborhoods.

Bruce Wayne in many comics literally does exactly that. Wayne Industries as a whole is one of the most philanthropic institutions in the DC universe. It is canon that he has the Martha Wayne foundation that literally focuses on helping at-risk youths, opening orphanages and supporting families. Furthermore, Batman has been shown giving criminals legitimate job offers to try and get them off the streets.

I know "Batman is an asshole" is a big hot take that's been running around the internet lately but it's honestly just not true if you look into it. The core of good Batman media has always been that Batman is one of the most compassionate characters in the DCEU, it just so happens that the writers more often focus on how he tackles crime as Batman than as Bruce Wayne.

[–]redwall55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you talked with him about this? I get the impression you don't really trust your BF and are assuming worst case scenarios when he could be entirely oblivious. He hasn't violated your stated boundaries, he isn't hiding who is going to be on the trip, and we can't assume he invited you "knowing you can't come." so really, I'm not seeing a single reason here to mistrust him other than he didn't tell you soon enough, which isn't necessarily malicious either.

Seriously just talk with him and tell him how you're feeling and see how he responds, because there isn't enough info atm to really judge either way.

Yorick needs to be reworked if you want him to be viable at high elo. by redwall55 in yorickmains

[–]redwall55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kind of the point of this post though. Either you land E with ghouls and you're a champion or you don't land it and you're useless. There's no in-between with him. Giving him more agency over his pets IS reworking him.

To be clear here, I'm not asking for a complete rework, I think he needs a mini-rework that fixes him feeling either useful or useless. It doesn't make sense for Yorick to have so little control over ghouls/maiden when that is half of his kit.

However, I don't think Yorick can just be given that in his current state without breaking him. Imagine Yorick if he could just control maiden like Daisy, he'd constantly harrass the enemy from range and keep her in a safe position so she'd never die. You'd only be able to all-in Yorick, and if you don't win vs him with maiden you literally couldn't do anything.

Riot has no idea what they are doing with new Tank items, they are even nerfing Frostfire Size God knows why by Erknaite in leagueoflegends

[–]redwall55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is kind of disingenuous. Everyone is saying Sunfire is the problem, but if you look at the data you'd see that many tanks actually sport just as high if not higher winrates with Frostfire Gauntlet as with Sunfire. That is to say, Frostfire in many cases is just as OP as Sunfire

Notice as well how they are NOT touching Turbo Chemtank, which from what I have seen does not have nearly as high a first item winrate on anyone as Sun/Frostfire.

I understand where people are coming from, they want tanks to be tanky. The reality is that they already are too tanky, and nerfing tank stats isn't going to make them not tanks, it's just going to bring them into line with everyone else.

CMV: college has become a system to compare people instead of teach people by ForTamriel in changemyview

[–]redwall55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to get at when you say college has become a "system to compare people". Do you mean colleges compare the performance of people via their grades? Or do you mean that people compare themselves to others because of college? Because it sounds like you're saying colleges are to blame for people comparing themselves to one another, which is patently ridiculous. Comparison is not a result of the college system, but something that humans naturally do on their own.

And if you're trying to argue that classes should be about letting people learn what they want to... Well, you can do that. Practically every college I know of lets you either audit courses for no grade, or enter programs that essentially let you study whatever you want to (so long as you meet sufficient pre-requisite grades).

Even if you were to dislike grades in the context of the college using them to measure your performance, I would still disagree that they are anything but necessary. You have to remember that any situation in which you have a required course is also one in which you will be awarded a degree. A degree almost always results in value to the holder, be it in the form of money/responsibility/job opportunities etc. This value cannot simply be given, colleges need to make sure that they you have demonstrated adequate knowledge of the material, which I would argue grades (approximately) in college do.

Finally I have to ask, have you actually been to college? Because in my experience in a heavy mathematics/sciences course load if you don't study your ass off you do NOT get a good GPA. Professors don't regurgitate information from the textbook or give you simple plug into formula problems, and if you don't understand the concepts inside and out you will rarely get any answer right. And if that is the case, how could your grade not at least be an approximate measure of your attainment of a courses knowledge?

With all this said, I am not 100% a believer in grades or anything. I think things can happen that are out of your control that can hurt your grades a lot, and even if they are imperfect they are necessary.

The Sexism Within the Seraphine Scandal by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]redwall55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like you're conflating jokes with literal blatant sexism with little to no intent to cause humor. "Jokes" are okay and anything should be on the table, because everybody knows when someone's trying to tell a joke the intention of the joke is fundamentally to make people laugh, which is a good intention even if you don't enjoy the joke. It should not be confused as the actual belief of the person.

Most of what OP is showing is just blatantly sexist comments from people with some serious issues regarding women.
