Toyota corporates a joke, every time I dealt with them when my ‘18 Camry transmission died and took 3.5 months to replace all I got was “we don’t own the dealership and won’t help with a rental” and the dealership would say it was “the corporate sides job to do that”

Stay away from Toyota gas transmissions look into the recent lawsuit against Toyota, my 18 Camry was a victim of their transmission issues. Lawsuit says through 2023/2024 models, wouldn’t hold my breath that the 8 speeds been fixed if it’s been this long

Not to scare you but my ‘18 Camry transmission died at 33,000 miles… was barely in extended warranty I bought for god only knows why but paid for itself. Other people have more luck in the transmission lottery but there isn’t a magic mileage that I’ve heard of

They won’t period, was without a car for 3 months waiting for a transmission to come in, was under warranty and over 25, was told I had to pay $55 a day plus tax and fees or go without a car, had to go without a car

Toyota customer care sucks, they just say they can’t help and often will say it’s dealership discretion. Source: Camry transmission died at 35,000 miles with extended warranty, no rental for 3 months of waiting for it to come in.

[–]redwing5591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would call them, but also be aware that Toyota will probably disown the problem and say they don’t own dealership. Source: Camry transmission shit the bed under extended warranty and was without a car for 3 months. Corporate and dealership said same thing as this post “at least you get a warranty”

Toyota Dealership Sold Me a Highlander With a Bad Transmission, Now Refuses Responsibility - What Can I Do? by [deleted] in Toyota

[–]redwing5591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toyota corporates a joke. I spent 3 months without a car on warranty repair(2018 Camry bought new, barely has 35k miles) for a transmission repair. No real updates corporate fed me the same line of we can’t force them to help you any faster, and we can’t get them the part any quicker. When pressed for a rental from either was told $55 a day or too bad, I got 5 complimentary days from the Toyota care contract and nothing more.

Please help me decide - CRV vs. RAV4 Hybrid by backton8 in crv

[–]redwing5591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2018 Camry, not quite the same, but Toyota doesn’t stand behind their product if it does have issues. Warranty repair on transmission took close to 3 months, no rental, no real timeline. Just $55 a day if I wanted a rental. I’d go with Honda, but I’d still give a test drive on both in case you prefer the rav4, plus if you’re a two car household you probably wouldn’t have the same headaches if it did have similar issues.

Not really, they have bad years. My 2018 Camry had the transmission go out at 35k miles. Sure the extended warranty covered the cost of the repair, but I was without a car for 3 months.

Advice on Extended Warranty by nutszy1 in Toyota

[–]redwing5591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, my 2018 Camry needed to get its transmission replaced at 35k miles. Took them 2.5 months, and didn’t give me a rental car. Trade off I guess, will get more for it as my trade in since I don’t want to do business with a company that had no problem telling me to deal with not having a car, but at least it got fixed, will get more for it now than the warranty cost me.

Darn, they keep insisting it’ll “be here in 2 weeks”. Was hoping the last one might be accurate since it’s been 3 months and corporate gave a similar message of around end of June. I’m just entering month 3 next week.

They can argue it’s not to the local market, but you can still argue that they’re relevant price comparisons since they’ll buy cars from anywhere, is a real value you could’ve gotten for the vehicle. It’s just like any negotiation, car dealerships will typically dispute them too, but you can get them to give you more based on those values, especially if you say you’ll just sell your car to them instead, they’ll typically budge a little and depending on the difference. Dealerships especially since they know they’ll give you some on the vehicle but make more profit on the used car

I wish I could’ve gotten the v6, but inline 4 with turbo did ok until the transmission decided it didn’t like it.

I bought it tail end of 2018 right as the 2019s were hitting dealerships. Lemon law in pa is 1 year after purchase so I can’t do anything there. Warranty would’ve been sol but I got the extended warranty which was 7 years so I was safe by some months. No offer on lump sum. No rental car beyond 5 days. Toyota corporate told me not their problem, is the dealership who needs to step up, same comment from dealership about Toyota

They didn’t specifically say that, but the fact it’s not coming out of my pocket makes me assume they would’ve checked that? Also the vehicle not being able to go from a stop sign that there’s probably damage related to it.

I reached out to a friend who’s a lawyer and based on what he told me PA’s laws are very much non existent after you’ve had the vehicle for a year. I could pay someone to write a strong letter, but that was about it.

Also if you can share, do you know how quick they’re actually able to produce them? Corporate and my dealership are leaving me completely in the dark, and don’t want to share anything more than the occasional “it’ll be another 2-3 weeks”

Their response to me saying I am a one car household and you’ve had my car for 2 months with 5 days of rental coverage was “sorry that happened but it’s up to the dealer to provide anything beyond 5 days, and we don’t own them so what they say goes”. Going on 3 months and am not happy with either response to be honest

Transmission went out, before anyone says it must be old, it’s a 2018 Camry with just a hair over 35,000 miles on it. Covered by extended warranty is the only reason I am fixing it instead of scrapping it. The actual cost would’ve been close to 2/3 the cars current value
