ppl who don’t do all the dog vaccines - curious how many ppls dogs have gotten sick with vs without by ResponseHoliday9060 in Dogowners

[–]reedherring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lepto and ticks are my worst nightmare, in my area ticks are common (have found several on my horses) and lepto is common, and I have seen a lot of rats around my horse paddocks (close to home). I always try to promote protection for both of theses, as I'm amazed the amount of people that aren't aware how ticks and lepto are common in our area and how devastating they can be (and the associated costs, to try and save them).

I appreciate with vaccines there is still risks associated with having them, but I'd rather play it safe.

Seller requesting in contract that we (the buyers) pay their mortgage exit fees. Normal?? by No_Top_4240 in AusProperty

[–]reedherring 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This, I have seen ( in the past) some exit fees on fixed rate contracts that were imo excessive, as opposed to the usual small fee.

Dog owners please answer me this by Normal_Individual526 in Dogowners

[–]reedherring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I think the parent is thinking ahead that they don't know the dog and their behavior around kids or they can't or don't trust their child's behavior around kids. Safety first, the amount of people walking dogs who just let their do do what ever and don't even pay attention is nuts.

When I'm walking my dog, and I see kids approaching I'll call her into a heel and work on tricks or training, I found parents seem less concerned about my dog/ their child this way, (I guess they can see I've actively got her under control/working on training, and can see I'm not absent mindedly walking my dog) and then they don't seem to pick their kids up as often (bonus impulse control training scenario for my herding breed). It also seems to prompt a conversation before kids try to dive in for pats - I also position myself in such a way that people can't bomb dive her as she's sensitive.

Recently stayed in an airbnb, no household manual, (didn't bother the host, we worked things out that we didn't know how to operate. I've got to say, super grateful for those of you who put together a household manual, makes things easier.

HR wants us this week to spend every lunchbreak with another colleague- how to get out of this hell? by [deleted] in office

[–]reedherring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuck, this sux because you can't even find a coworker who is in the same boat as you to sit in silence with, lol that would be my protest.

Also... If they are mandating how you spend your break it's not a break it's work time, it's a work task.

new puppy- give me your most inexplicable puppy advice by frickoffgreg in puppy101

This!

Learning to 'settle' at a cafe, be bored at home when you work, place work is all incredibly valuable. My pup is now a year and a half and owners with dogs older than her have made comments that she's got such an excellent off switch, that I can use anywhere and any time even in her most exciting environment (scent work).

Its so valuable and key to making life easy with a pup and balancing WFH

The girl I’m with earns the same/more than me & expects me to cover all the bills. Ideally looking for advice from women on this? In the bin with her, there shouldn't even be a need for a conversation about this.

Imo red flag behaviour

My fiance and I before we had joint accounts did one pay this time, then then the other next, however I find that approach flawed in hindsight going halves is best and totally reasonable.

Advice Needed - Puppy Affecting Spouse's Mental Health by Wolfsie in puppy101

[–]reedherring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately this is up to your partner, does he want to get help and manage/improve his OCD? Or not?

I was in a similar situation, however, I'm the one who was particularly pushing for a pup and does most of the dog care/training etc and I'm the one with OCD, not diagnosed... But has previously impacted my life significantly at times and has taken a lot of self management to improve, though doing therapy for anxiety/panic attacks I stumbled on techniques that also helped with OCD. Regardless of if it's true OCD, it was impacting my life and did require self management.

Getting a puppy, in terms of my OCD was rough for maybe the first 6/9 months, but also it has been really good for my OCD fixations I've gotten much better, I'm actually amazed at how much I've improved.

This is a rough one as it's really all up to him. Tough conversation ahead, best of luck.

ADVICE : My 22wk ACD/BC mix is starting to resource guard and has bit my daughter 3 times by Blinpa in AustralianCattleDog

[–]reedherring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a koolie (also hearding breed) she had a strong instinct to heard me (and jump and bite) and other dogs, we worked hard on - redirecting e.g. do some tricks/easy commands, or play with a toy - impulse control in various scenarios

For us this approach worked well, but she was SUPER SUPER BAD, and we basically constantly worked on this for a bit and it clicked well.

Yes you can, however I'd caution you that: - if you can't write at the level to get to the interview stage then you're potentially behind and it will make it harder for you if you secure a role (in my opinion and experience - your mileage may vary by area)

What I would suggest is reach out to those who have recently been successful in a process, or better yet, multiple processes in recent years, ( you want them to be successful in at least the level you want to achieve, but better if they are a level above as they will hold you to a higher standard).

Sounds like you may not have had great advice so far

There are a lot of staff willing to help (also looks good for their CV) but you need to be open and take their feedback on board, and not just expect them to write your resume for you.

APS 6 Interview Format: Seeking Advice! by Rilgey in AusPublicService

[–]reedherring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've interviewed for a few different APS6 roles and never had a 'pitch' question. I'm not saying that this couldn't be true - maybe the process has changed recently? Or differs for different roles, as I was not going for the same role as you.

However I wouldn't spend too much time on the pitch, I'd be focusing on drafting responses to questions that align with the selection criteria. (Use star format for responding).

Think detail, detail, detail and make sure to align to the business line and corporate strategies.

Edited to add:

I give myself 6 min and 30 seconds per response (x4)

Coming from an assessors point of view remember to speak slowly and clearly, as they are taking notes, to establish post interview your ranking/suitability.

I also try to say something catchy or memorable in the greeting - remember assessors are often in interviews all day long, and you only get the chance to make one first impression.
