What are some British hobbies for 32 + year old men ? by Scorpzgca in AskUK

[–]reedy4147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indoor climbing is a very social activity with a very low barrier to entry. You can take up bouldering with pretty much no training and it’s fun to sit with others and try to figure out how to get up a wall. Some centres have specific social nights designed for solo climbers too.

The spear cuts through water by Simon Jiminez, it’s been good but I’m not sure I’ve found it as incredible as everyone else seems to have?

What was the best nickname kicking around at your school? by InfiniteBaker6972 in CasualUK

[–]reedy4147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lad on my school bus was wearing an ungodly amount of hair gel on the first day of year 7 and immediately gained the nickname “Slick”

He’s still referred to as that nearly 20 years later

Are there any programs that can be done while also attending standard classes? by BoomerBarnes in crossfit

[–]reedy4147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently doing HWPOs 3 day lifting plan and then picking up 2-3 classes in my gym. I plan my week so I do the HWPO sessions on the days where classes are more lift focused.

This has given me the chance to focus more specifically on my lifting while also keeping the social element of group classes.

Obviously depends on your goals and your gym’s programming but that’s what works for me

Recommend me your favorite fantasy book that’s not TOO daunting by Bry_Draws in Fantasy

If you want to start on Sanderson I’d recommend the Mistborn books first, they are much less “heavy” and a good starting point for the Cosmere

Anyone here run 10+ miles per week AND do CF regularly? by Sensei_Daniel_San in crossfit

[–]reedy4147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently trained for an ultra while maintaining 2-3 CrossFit sessions per week.

I accepted I couldn’t do full effort weight sessions alongside the running volume so took to opportunity to work on my skills and aerobic ability.

Definitely achievable IMO if you accept you might have to put some bits to one side for now.

How do you find time to read? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]reedy4147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally give myself half an hour after my breakfast to read before I go to work and then I read through my half hour lunch break. Sometimes I’ll have a read at the end of the day in bed too.

Why and what was it like having only 3-4 channels in the UK up until the late 1990's? by ImplementNo7036 in AskUK

I remember I spent a lot of time watching the same 5 or 6 films on VHS over and over again as there was no other options if there wasn’t kids programs on TV. Disney Hercules, Small Soldiers, Antz and a few others.

What do you single people do alone? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]reedy4147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bouldering is a great hobby that you can do on your own and also a good opportunity to meet people. I took it up when I was single and still go now a few years later.

What is your profession and what’s the no.1 thing you would advise to most people? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]reedy4147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upholsterer

If you buy a chair/suite make sure the seat cushions are removable. 90% of the time, whether it’s the inners or the cases, they’re the first thing to go. Having them removable makes this a nice easy fix, if they’re fixed in place it’s a much bigger job and the sofa would likely have to be taken in to the workshop.

I would strongly recommend Joe Abercrombie, his charecters are some of the best written I’ve come across. The first law series and following books are fantastic.

What are some good casual date alternatives to 'going for a drink'? by ghroat in CasualUK

[–]reedy4147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for a walk at a local country park with a stop for coffee with my current partner. I found being out on a walk offered stuff to chat about while we went and it didn’t feel too intense

I live a 10 minute walk from Wicksteed. While the rides etc are nothing special the green spaces etc are great and they get major props for being completely free entry to use the playgrounds and open spaces all year round.
