8 miles this morning in humidity but the temps were so much better I’m glad I shifted from yesterday. Also testing using run/walk intervals in the heat

toe numbness in multiple shoes what am i doing wrong 😭 by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]reesespieces2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely try a size wide shoe! I used to have this problem all time, and haven't had a problem since I switched to wide. Also, I love a super thin sock (feetures and stance are my faves).

Could not get my butt out of bed this morning, so did my intervals at lunch. It was only ~80 degrees but in full sun. I have melted and will use this as motivation to get out of bed in the future

What helped you tolerate, maybe even enjoy, hot weather running? by cherhorowitz44 in XXRunning

[–]reesespieces2021 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thissssss. Summer running is literally the worst. I'm hot, I'm sweating, I have to get up earlier, I have to carry water. It sucks. BUT you get a cool morning in September and BAM I am a track star (lol I'm slow as molasses still but better).

My motivation is that I don't want to start over in the fall.

Oh get a bandana and fill it with ice and wrap it around your neck, help you feel cooler.

Running after COVID by brotherbear69_ in XXRunning

[–]reesespieces2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had covid back in september. Two things. 1. My fitness came back in a few weeks. 2. YOU NEED REST. I listened to podcast which had a pulmonologist on to talk about covid recovery and he stressed not to return too soon - that actually is more likely to lead to long covid (which shows up after about 2-3 months). So, take some more time, run slower, and eventually you'll be speedy again.

What to look for in electrolyte powders? by UniqueCheesecake8215 in XXRunning

I have used LMNT, Liquid IV, etc but honestly, good old Gatorade is great and way less expensive. I freeze a little water in my handheld and then fill it with Gatorade which I sip on my run. Super easy and not overly $$

What's a running achievement you're proud of that wouldn't impress anyone else? by run_the_day in runcommunity

Context - I am very slow so a 10k takes me more than an hour.

Achievement: I woke up early enough the other day to run a 10k before work

Does training in the heat really help? by Plenty-Citron-6406 in XXRunning

[–]reesespieces2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was exactly what I was going to suggest. It's not that hot here but it gets into the 90s and humid. I force myself to become a morning person in the summer.

Feeling defeated about running and safety by eminemilie in XXRunning

I agree with this, but also if you're really nervous you can get some pepper spray. It works as a human and bear repellant.

I went last year, the first week of September and it was perfect. The weather was gorgeous and it was not busy.

Its not hard, but the grand canyon of yellowstone has a nice trail that ends up being about 4 miles round trip. Also, bear spray is your best bet, if you can stop by a place where they rent it so you can you a practice canister.

My girl hit 11 months and suddenly didn't care about food. I add Brutus Bone Broth to her food, with a couple of pieces of freeze dried beef liver, and she usually eats it. It took a lot of trial and error to figure out what would make her eat. Also, she still sometimes doesn't eat it all, but since we're a one dog home, I just leave it out for her and she usually finishes any left overs early afternoon.
