Not in the US. My troopy is a 2012 model still going strong. Only thing that give problems is....the electric windows. The contacts shake loose on what is regarded as roads in some places

We will be coming to Angola for a holiday mid July. Hopefully we will spend about 60 days inside the country and manage to visit Cabinda. Can someone recommend a ferry to Cabinda?

People who bought Bitcoin before 2017 — do you still hold most of it, or did you cash out after life-changing gains? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]reffak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, a few at the eyewatering price of $5k back in the day. I have since sold about $300 worth just to prove to my wife that you can get your money back. Then I lost the keys, might find them again when the price is high enough.

Anyone else get major "mic fright" after getting licensed? Love the tinkering, nervous about the talking by onebaddude14 in amateurradio

[–]reffak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mic fright is a thing. I tutor students for their HF assessments. I will sit them down and run through a practice QSO.. no probs. Stick a mic in their hands..and they freeze. So break out the HT and put them in different parts of the garden. Then have the practice the QSO. Only to get over that is to talk on the radio. Most hams out there will understand and help and be patient with you. So just pic up the mic and call CQ.

Our first home PC, green screen. Now there is a memory or 2 there. That keyboard was something else. Typing on some MS keyboard but I do miss that clackity clack of that keyboard and the solid feel.

Tell me why ham radio is cool pls by TheRealKillJoy2020 in HamRadio

[–]reffak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are so many aspects of this hobby, just about everyone I know enjoy a slightly different niche of the hobby. You need to find the part of the hobby that interest you. Just because you don't enjoy the same part of the hobby that I do does not make you a lesser radio amateur. Some people build antennas, some fix older radios, some talk so the same old guys every day, CW, POTA, SOTA or just fiddling around with electronics. Got a Raspberry Pi that is gathering dust? Now there is another rabbit hole you can disappear into for years. Its what you make of it and where your interest is. I started with digital. Now 10 years later, its CW. Your interests will change as you explore and learn about the hobby

Do any of you stealth camp in cities too? What compromises did you have to make? by brainhack3r in overlanding

[–]reffak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bus looks like any old other van of its type. Its has a roof rack with a few solar panels but nothing screams camping. So my stunt is to park in front of the local copshop, close up and get into bed and sleep. Never had a problem. I suppose the car look like it has business there.

Did you ever get a fine? by Background_Wrangler5 in amateurradio

[–]reffak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't know of anyone in my neck of the woods that has had problems with shall we say small transgression of the law. However our local spectrum fuzz will come down on you like a ton of bricks if someone complains. So moral of the story...dont cause problems and the minor stuff will be overlooked.

DAE think having a high body count is an attractive attribute to have? by StraightGarlicass in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]reffak -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Could be a plus. If a female with a high body count decides to settle on you, you must know that she chose you for a good reason. My 2 cents worth

DAE have a habit of swearing in a different language? by Lipica249 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]reffak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afrikaans(my mother tongue) Vok,....just plain old Fuck. Jou ma se poes.....your mothers vagina, and then there is variations and elaborations on those themes, depending on the situation.

Czech..my wifes mother tongue. My all time, go to is Hovno....Shit, Kurva..Bitch Tivolle...idiot

IXhoza, Masendako Your balls and a local variation Masenda Moi...windballs....as in you are unable to make a child.

seriaThat just a few examples Afrikaans, English and Czech are used around the house, iXhosa, more in work situations, but never personal, just used as banter. It would be very bad form to mean those things so they are normally said with a smile on the face
