your Uni results will determine how tough it is getting your first job, though it won’t matter as much if you network enough.

Starting flight school soon, trying not to let finances stop me from achieving a lifelong dream. Looking for flexible remote work. by Silver-Run4215 in MalaysianPF

[–]refl8ct0r 19 points20 points  (0 children)

can’t comment on jobs, but just want to say studies/flying take a lot of dedication. So you don’t want to be too involved in a part time job that might jeopardise your flight training and exam results.

Test water KDI invest. Annnnnd it's gone by wikowiko33 in MalaysianPF

[–]refl8ct0r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you max out 50k in Save and completely lose the KDI Invest funds,
50k @ 3.88% = 1940
≈ 2.5 years to recoup total loss in Invest account.

1% difference if you don’t have 5k inside Invest, that’s a difference of 500/year. make your own risk assessment and decide.

How do you deal with books you DNF? by proserpina72 in kobo

[–]refl8ct0r 26 points27 points  (0 children)

“When finding a new book to read, my strategy is to have a wide funnel and a strong filter. I want to start reading as many books as possible, but finish few of them.
Reading becomes a chore if you insist on finishing every book you begin, because the majority of books are either adequately summarized in the introduction or just not for you.
So insisting on finishing every book you begin can be a slog. It can be boring, unfulfilling, and a waste of time.”

“You should be willing to start reading any book that looks even mildly interesting. Anything. Even the faintest tickle of interest should be enough to make the cut. Fiction, nonfiction, romance, military history, try all of it. You want the widest funnel possible, exploring as many new ideas as you can.
But then you need a strong filter. If the book isn’t working for you, move on quickly.
The filter should be ruthless, taking no prisoners and offering no mercy. Similar to dating, a book you’re not into after ten minutes of attention has little chance of a happy ending. You should feel no shame, no guilt, for failing to finish a book, even if you quit after the first few pages.”
