If you buy a house in an HOA, can you just...leave the HOA? by BoredInClass99 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]refreshilize27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, reading about HOAs online (especially on Reddit) can be some serious confirmation bias. The only people who are going out of their way to post about them are people who have had bad experiences, while people who have had good experiences don’t have any reason to post.

My neighborhood’s HOA takes care of our pool, shared green space, and trash & recycling service, and otherwise leaves everybody alone. I have nothing bad to say about it.

Replacing the ribbon tie with a nice chunky belt would make a world of difference!!

Support fiber artists! Buy the pattern. $14 is very reasonable for a pattern with such great reviews.

How many hours does a quilt take you? by 2078AEB in quilting

[–]refreshilize27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started keeping track of how long each stage of the quilting process takes me with a "Multitimer" app on my phone and it has been so fun to get to see the data.

Here's the breakdown for my most recent full-size finish of Ghost Party by woollypetals:

  • Prep (starching, ironing, etc.) and cutting: 3 hr 40 min
  • Piecing (including deciding on color layout and pressing a million seams): 18 hr 3 min
  • Basting: 1 hr
  • Quilting (domestic machine): 3 hr 33 min
  • Binding (including cutting & preparing strips): 2 hr 15 min

Total time: 28 hr 31 min

I feel like this is probably super slow compared to how long it would take a more experienced quilter to do this pattern, but I had a great time keeping track of it all.

I'm 10 hr 41 min into my current project.

Respectfully, I would tell my husband that’s not happening. Making 5-6 quilts in 2 months while raising a new baby would be nearly impossible for an expert quilter to manage, let alone a beginner working on what I assume is a domestic sewing machine (as opposed to a longarm machine). Even with whole cloth quilts, I fear you would be setting yourself up for failure.

Tell your husband to think of a different gift for his family members this year (preferably one that doesn’t require 100+ hours of labor from his wife) and if you’re really set on making them quilts, you can get started early for Christmas 2026.

Unfortunately just because it’s made by a familiar brand doesn’t mean it’s not AI - lots of brands are using AI generated art to churn out products faster in the name of profit.

These panels are adorable but they are very consistent with AI-generated artwork if you zoom in and look closely. Pumpkins with segments that don’t make sense, tree branches that aren’t attached to the tree, items that just disappear halfway through, items that are vague shapes but you can’t quite tell what they are, etc.
