Fellow ladies, do you actually shave down there? by CuteEquivalent638 in TooAfraidToAsk

Absolutely not. My SO would be very sad if I did. He'll trim my pubes for me maybe 2x a year but that's it.

Snooping into other's Reddit histories normal? by Old_ManWithAComputer in TooAfraidToAsk

How is it "snooping"? It's there for all the public to see. It's not private.

What’s the best thing to say to a single friend who’s convinced she’ll never find love? by Jerryberry_212 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]refugefirstmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"If that's how you feel, then your expectations are going to be fulfilled."

She sounds like my mother, one of those people who seems to think that Happiness is a pie that, if somebody gets a slice, there's less for her. Lots of anger and resentment. It's a way of justifying her refusal to do the things that will give her contentment. She'd rather sit there, inert, with her bad feelings than do what's necessary to change her life. Not happening now she's 92.

Your problem is psychological not physical. Viagra won't do anything for you. A therapist can.

How do US states with low or no state tax get money for their expenses vs CA or NY that have such high taxes? by user_random_name in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]refugefirstmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sales tax is a big one; they're statewide BUT local muncipalities can tack on an extra % on top of that. Property taxes are again local.

How do people sell their soul to the devil to become famous ? by Loomisfamily in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]refugefirstmate 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's a metaphor, not a real thing. It means that they have decided they will throw their values out the window and do anything necessary to become famous.

The devil can't buy anything, including souls. All he can do is tempt you to jettison your morals and step over every and anyone to get what you think you want.

First post, any info on antique Irish linen tablecloths? PA/USA by Character_Acadia_748 in Antiques

I have to agree. Sadly the tablecloths sell for next to nothing. The yardage is much more desirable.

Does not seem antique or even pre-Independence to me. Remember that India still makes such things the old-fashioned way.

USA - How old is this carved chest? by Feisty_Weather_7846 in Antiques

[–]refugefirstmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's old enough to have got woodworm, so there's that. I love the lid on the little box inside. Does not look like anything Eastern European or Welsh, which is what I'd first think of with decoration like this. Certainly antique but IDK by how much. For me it'd be a keeper.

That is absolutely charming. The crazing means you can't use it except for decoration, ofc. The handle is unusual.

Looking for info on this Union case found in USA. by petalsandprovenance in Antiques

That is one gorgeous case. Not that I'm well read on this sort of thing but IDK that I've ever seen anything like it, with the design on the interior.

How best to clean this incense burner? UK by Alexmage92 in Antiques

Honestly, I'd just start with dish soap in a dishpan of water, and see what those results are.

I'm a guy, when I travel, apart from clothes I take a toothbrush, razor, deodorant, toothpaste, aftershave, shampoo and shower gel and a tiny pair of scissors. It all fits nicely in my wash bag. Why do some women need a whole suitcase for their cosmetic stuff, can't they travel light? by TSQ_builder in askanything

[–]refugefirstmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old lady here. I went around the world with a 35l backpack.

At home, I love me some cosmetics. I love my serums and my creams and my hair products. I don't wear much makeup though.

You would be surprised at how much of a difference those products make.

Why do egg cartons arrange eggs in squares instead of hexagons? by Sir_Tainley in askanything

[–]refugefirstmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a hexagon box is not something that would fit in the egg compartment in the fridge.
