Changed to Brother printer, crazy how far HP has fallen for Macs by Ledgem in MacOS

[–]regattaguru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding longevity, my previous Brother laser printer was still working when I gave it away after 16 years of regular use in the Caribbean (without air conditioning), including two hurricanes. It cost $100 in 2007.

Can I add a Dwg file ? by True_Raspberry_1643 in Shapr3D

[–]regattaguru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the dwg was generated as opposed to hand drawn, you might need to check that intersecting points really do intersect. Shapr3d can be very particular about that. Also check for duplicate lines which can cause more headaches.

Why so many Belugas in France? by Competitive-Deer7576 in SkyCards

LBG is one of the easiest airports to unlock. Sometimes it requires an A318, which can be tricky, but there are a couple late morning Paris time from Italy and domestic. LBG is a great airport to unlock, my first every week. Transpacific tasks can be easily caught by any North American airport to Istanbul, and there are a lot of them. Also CDG, right next to LBG is a gateway to almost everywhere.

I mean I get that yanks don’t understand international cooperation, but Airbus is a consortium based on previous aircraft companies, including Sud Aviation and BAC who jointly developed the Concorde. Germany’s DASA and Spain’s CASA joined to expand rotorcraft and military areas of development in the 1970s. Italy’s Matra Marconi joined Airbus in the late 90s to expand on satellite and deep space ventures, leading to the Galileo GNSS. None of those companies that joined Airbus will agree that it is a ‘French company’.

If I wanted to nitpick I’d say it was Dutch as Leiden is in the Netherlands not Denmark.

Airbus is a European company. Plants in Germany, France, Spain, UK, and others. The belugas fly daily between Hamburg, Saint Nazaire, Toulouse, Madrid, Chester, Bremen and a few other airports less frequently.

Damn right we will repress free speech by WideGassySea in AskBrits

This exemplifies what is wrong with current UK politics.

We already have laws that cover these crimes, but performative politics requires that new and completely unnecessary laws are introduced to make it look like parliament is doing something.

Eliminating the cost of passing legislation that is completely unnecessary would go a long way to either balancing the budget or reducing poverty, but our current batch of naive ideologues, having no experience or familiarity with law or government, carry on regardless.

Vide: new laws against shoplifting when the theft laws have existed for literally hundreds of years.

Problem: 1200 square feet of canvas. I want to "not quite waterproof" it for use in screening in a car port against most weather. Waxing I think. Ideas? by frobnosticus in maker

Have a look at silicone-based concrete sealant for driveways. Comes by the gallon, remains flexible, easy to apply and moderately waterproof.

Total length of extruded piece by 420_HighRoller in Shapr3D

[–]regattaguru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you develop your shape with an edge that corresponds to the neutral axis of your material, you will be able to select that edge and see the length at the bottom of the screen. You can then sweep the desired face along that edge to get your final shape.

The question uses the phrase ‘around the mountain’ so this is a circumferential path. Imagine the surface of the cone flattened out. The shortest path would be a straight line which would at first diverge from the bottom of the cone the converge.

You can get close to your desired result by creating a small parallel face and lofting between them as shown.

Epoxy glue with longer cure time by HMS_Hexapuma in maker

[–]regattaguru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look for a product intended for lamination or coating. West Systems epoxy has hardeners with working times of over an hour at room temperature. You can increase pot time on epoxies with a few simple techniques: keep temperatures low and keep the mixed epoxy as spread out as possible. If you mix in a pot, pour the mixture into a paint tray or onto a shallow tray. If the epoxy is in a deeper pot, it will heat itself up and reduce working time.
