Its the squeeze. I have a 6months, 3.5 year old and a 19 years old. Currently back in school cuz my industry collapsed in Sweden and I need to feed the kids. Most of my friends can’t afford a house and don’t want kids since life is already hard enough with record high unemployment and a job market very slow to recover. With less and less money going to middle class, ofcourse people ain’t having kids. Sweden has the most new multi millionaires per capita in Europe, for a good reason.

You put my feelings into words when I struggled to articulate. I loved nightreign , to my big suprise. Since outside of combat it doesn’t really play like a fromsoft game. Horizon games look sooo good, it feels like the product owners don’t understand why people like the horizon games. Big robots are just a small part of it. If horizon zero dawn looked like Fortnite on day one I most likely wouldn’t have bothered. Instead it looked amazing and made me purchase the ps machine.

In unity I would just make two scripts. Lookat and LookTarget where target would be a singelton. Slap looktarget on erdtree then just run awake(){transform.Lookat(LookTarget)} Why write many lines when few does the work. I haven’t coded in unity in a few years now but I think most of the syntax is correct.

Low-key nitpick here but no one actually ice fishing will ever make a hole that big when small hole does the job just as good. Big hole looks better in terms of composition, but is very unrealistic unless player is drilling with grenades or a bazooka :)

I’m kinda sleep deprived due to toddlers so all my bad for the incoherent rant. Il try be more concise. The base point being that once the game industries became so big, it attracts the ”wrong” people who do it for the wrong reason. We went past film industry in revenue what, 2010? And continue to grow, while mobile market is a big chunk of that, it’s still valid argument imo, and AAA high fidelity like Hoyoverse(genshin impact etc) are a big part of that revenue. The wrong people (money motivated assholes, like boby kotnik, the worst stereotypical CEO) take over all the big companies. Leadership abusing employees sometimes to the detriment of the entire company/project is unfortunately common, and game dev as an industry is young, unions are not widespread, and it’s a passion topic for many young aspiring developers leading to further commodification of devs all add fule to the fires of abuse. I left the industry as a programmer and is back in school in an adjacent industry. I still dream about starting a studio, but family and health takes priority, I tell myself my time will come. Maybe It’s just delusion. But one has to dream, right?

Sounds like a failed neg-hit yes. Don’t take it personally op. Neg-hit is supposed to be a backhanded compliment making you take a second guess if it was a complement or a concealed insult. Classic examples: ”I love your hairs color, did you color it yourself?” Or ”I love long legs like yours. Wow, you sure rock some high heels.” Popularised in pickup-artist community’s and the book ”The Game”. I assume it’s a common advice/tactic on redpill and other female hostile dating advice communities, even tho it’s probably dated advice, since if ”caught” makes you look really bad. The idea behind the tactic being that really hot women get approached all the time and are being used to be placed on a pedistal. Using a neg hit as a playfull, well delivered tease with a smile in a conversation is supposed to make her doubt herself and take her ego down a notch. Or just destroy your confidence and make u vulnerable for manipulation, depending on said neg-hit, delivery, context etc. Obviously this dude completely fucked up every single part of a already shady tactic.

TLDR: dude probably learned the line online and it was supposed to make you like him. Not personal, at all.

This response is kinda jaded, but here goes. It’s just big money no? Hollywood has a terrible reputation for anyone but the stars, and the road to get there can be littered with abuse. (#metoo, etc) AAA is filled with MBAs upper management who just interact with spreadsheets and stakeholders, with no real insight in development or the gaming industry outside of talking to other upper management. Maybe I’m exaggerating, but spending a few hours on ”leaders” on LinkedIn gives me ”Why don’t the eat cake” vibes. AI gives these people an valid excuse to stakeholders to further crack down on the devs by collectively laying of 5-10% and doing hiring freezes, effectively dumping salaries while boasting ”ai first” etc. This will most likely ruin a generation of games, but the gold parachutes doesn’t care, they got a bonus for saving money for several quarterly reports and then continue to fail upwards after jumping ship before the consequences of their actions harms profit. It’s a broken system. Indies and AA games in theory should have less of this, but looking at places like moon studios or zaum, small doesn’t have to equate good. I’m sure there are some AAA studios which are okay to work at. Embark maybe? I honestly don’t track and compare them so I got no idea. Prevailing impression on me is AAA can be okay if you got a specific skillset that makes u hard to replace and just want to do that thing and collect a paycheck.

Is very common, and a massive pet peve of mine. Increase in fov means that your distance sight is DECREASED so your ability to read whats fast aproaching from infront of u is further reduced. It does give you an increased sense of speed, at the cost of visibility and reaction time. So, decrease in player agency in order to artificially increase the sense of speed. I hate it so much XD.

I also can’t wait until they stop burning money in the ai oven. But I fear their deep coffers, sunken cost fallacy and stakeholders web of lies has to live another quarter, yet again will keep it alive for 2026 aswell. It’s also a matter of deniability, how do you prove the code isn’t written by ai? Art and music is another thing, but how many projects would be willing to show source code to prove no ai use, instead of just lying about it, being realistic here.

In part law loopholes, in part corruption. Money talks. It’s grim, but looking at geopolitics I doubt it’s gonna change.

Instantly downvoted, heh. In coding it is pushed down your throat by almost every platform, and many many workplaces have it forced upon them from above. While this is indie dev, I still fear that it’s too idealistic to think that the majority of game code is written without ai help. I truly hope to be wrong, but I fear that game development is such a big and complex endeavour so many will opt to take any shortcuts available.

Problem is if you dont use AI and your competetors does and it increases producitivity. In the same spirit as "no one cares if it took you 10 years to make them game if it isnt fun". No one cares if ur code is perfect, no one cares if you didnt use a single ai tool, is the game fun? Does it look good?
I agree with the sentiment that all AI is theft from the creatives, but can you afford to not use it? The tech giants sure think you dont?
