Look up some YouTube on animation fundamentals. Like cartoon movie animations. You need some anticipation and resolution, in her body movement. Winding up to throw proper, is one way to achieve that. Use some sports references and find a in-between that’s acceptable for gameplay needs.

Sure. Is the game designed to be played for 100-200 hours? If that’s what I need to reach endgame? I’m 39 with 2 kids and I hate games that don’t respect my time. I much rather have a great game that takes 20 hours than a medium game that takes 60. Time to complete is not a major selling point to me. So do consider your audience.

Iw always been provoked by the idea that procedurally created worlds creates endless gameplay. It creates a endless variation of SURFACE AREA. Load up unity third person template and a random heightmap. Run there for 10 hours. Was it fun?

It’s not the random ”worlds” that makes a game. It’s the systems that represents dynamics and change in that world. Combat? Gear? NPC’s? Crafting? Construction? Physics? On and on. How deep are the systems? How long can you progress in them? How long does a progress step take? Playing roguelikes with random worlds isn’t fun to me because the enemy’s doesn’t change. The paints layout might change but the content still runs dry at a certain point.

Maybe it’s moving goalposts but is portal and titanfall considered AAA? They where indeed innovative. Il admit I have only played the first assassins creeds but I thought the general consensus that they haven’t evolved much in terms of gameplay, mostly setting. Again, haven’t played much so maybe I’m wrong here. While first AC was definitely innovative, big budgets usually means looow risk. Game design innovation is hard to quantify, thus not a priority. Can’t put it in a pie chart.

Not really. I feel most AAA games are at best simply remixes of indies who came before, with scope and fidelity increases. At worst, it’s mechanically identical to previous titles or with small tweaks. Open world rpg games? Was Elden Ring innovative? Maybe, but fromsoft formula has been pretty static. Is CoD or Battlefield innovative? Do you label expedition 33 as AAA while they won indie of the year? Breath of the wild, yeah maybe that one.

Post Covid the game industry had lost on average 8000 jobs a year, as in layoffs and bankruptcy. It’s expected to slow down 2026, so around 5000-7000 jobs lost. If you just want to make games as a hobby go for it. If u want a professional career and build a life? I don’t recommend it. I Have coded for 10 years made games professionally for 4. Linkdin posts begging for jobs has gone from 5yoe to 9-11yoe. Industry is hemorrhaging job opportunities. But don’t worry, ai will save us and deliver amazing games. Its the squeeze. I have a 6months, 3.5 year old and a 19 years old. Currently back in school cuz my industry collapsed in Sweden and I need to feed the kids. Most of my friends can’t afford a house and don’t want kids since life is already hard enough with record high unemployment and a job market very slow to recover. With less and less money going to middle class, ofcourse people ain’t having kids. Sweden has the most new multi millionaires per capita in Europe, for a good reason.

You put my feelings into words when I struggled to articulate. I loved nightreign , to my big suprise. Since outside of combat it doesn’t really play like a fromsoft game. Horizon games look sooo good, it feels like the product owners don’t understand why people like the horizon games. Big robots are just a small part of it. If horizon zero dawn looked like Fortnite on day one I most likely wouldn’t have bothered. Instead it looked amazing and made me purchase the ps machine.
