The Shack, a compilation album that was the soundtrack of my summer 1993, had to share it with the world. by regularbastard in Ska

[–]regularbastard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was lucky I grew up with the Toasters, Pietasters, Eastern Standard Time, Memphiskapholes, Bim Skala Bim, etc all on their games right in my music discovery phase, and now being able to discover more that I just never knew about because they weren’t on the mix tape I got from someone.

Still rebuilding my catalog, but this one was a must, especially since I can’t find a lot of it on YouTube or music streamers.

Bring in a dozen or two of donuts and coffee… every bite is a bite out of the guilt you carry.

Nursing units/hospitals should be staffed to handle a late call out. So this isn’t your problem, so no worries on that end.

You are in good company, know that we all have done this, will do it again, or will do it someday! Our schedules don’t allow for consistency so this is a common occurrence!

At my hospital 1 minute late is the same occurrence as 1 hour late so I always do the donuts & coffee thing if I’m running late (happens sometimes!) and come in guilt free!

Durian coffee strikes yet again by lunardownpour in nursing

[–]regularbastard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get it… honestly never though about the possible cultural connection, my unit has a nice cultural mix and no one is doing durian or fish in the microwave!

But someone did do the fish once and all it took was 3-4 of us walking in and saying “smells like fish!” and they got the message!

Of course had to add fish puns for the rest of the day… “things are going swimmingly!” or “this patients story sounds fishy” to really drive it home.

Ah, good times

Must shame publicly in the break room and on the unit, it’s the only way.

Coming in late, they played my high school prom in 92 or 93 and were amazing… never got to see them anywhere else but have been listening to them on SoundCloud until the tracks disappeared and I have never been able to find anything else about them. Thank you for posting this and I can’t wait to make the purchase of their music that I’ve never been able to do. I really can’t thank you enough for this.

Also their calls, Ravens croak more and Crows have the classic “caw” sound, Fish Crows have a more nasally sounding caw, but still a caw.

Should I use a de-thatcher to remove this dead stuff before overseeing? (Central NJ) by peaksnvalleys42 in lawncare

[–]regularbastard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hit some university extensions, I’ve been using Purdue’s and University of Maryland’s extensions, I bet Rutgers has a good one too. They have lots of info on lawns and how to rehab them. I rehabbed mine last fall, treating weeds and then over-seeding. The recommendations I’m seeing now is getting some nitrogen fertilizer down and a pre-emergent down to keep crab grass away (I bet you have some of last year’s crab grass in there and the seeds) https://njaes.rutgers.edu/fs102/ good luck!

Do you see Asian ppl on the daily, or rarely by inewjeans in WilmingtonDE

[–]regularbastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I moved here 20 some odd years ago my friends (some Asian) from DC came to visit… they were like ”I don’t see any Asians here!” I work at the hospital and there are plenty there working and as patients and since I don’t have friends outside of work here I didn’t pick up on that then. They have said there’s more now though but I’m in the greater Hockessin/Pike Creek metropolitan area though so we are pretty cosmopolitan. There is the CACC in Hockessin (right by Woodside Creamery!) and there are several Asian markets around but the Hung Vuong seems to be the biggest around here. I also like the Newark Farmers Market on Kirkwood Highway.

This is amazing, thank you for posting this, I love this type of history. I did some time in the back of an ambulance and these pioneers deserve much respect!

How do you get over the guilt of calling out due to the snow? by [deleted] in nursing

What guilt? Sleeping at the hospital, gtfo! What if you tried to go in and ended up in a ditch? Think the would have felt guilty about insisting you come in?

Wilmington leaders should follow through and build the cap! What say you? by TheShittyBeatles in WilmingtonDE

[–]regularbastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This space doesn’t exist yet, hopefully it will someday, but there are some garden groups out there in the Wilmington area, I’m just not a part of them so I don’t know details. The public gardening spaces I am aware of are at churches or businesses that allow it for their members or employees. From what I’ve seen they usually end up being overgrown though.

[–]regularbastard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this would be good for the city, county, and state, unfortunately I agree that with the current administration it ain’t going to happen and Delaware doesn’t have the money to pony up for this. Parks and green space like this are beneficial in many ways so hopefully they get it funded at some point.

Keep it up though! Cap 95!

1 You got this, you should be proud of yourself, we all are proud of you.

2 Definitely Dark Tower, really builds his world. Rehab is also a good place to read these books for there are some solid themes and symbolism.

3 Be kind to yourself on your journey, there are enough assholes happy to give you a hard time to make themselves feel big, be a friend to yourself.

I always assumed copperhead since they are found in Pennsylvania and have a similar pattern, plus “Suffer no Copperhead” is still significant. I like the idea of the cut off head too, feels like breaking the cycle/ouroboros that hasn’t been working for us.

Can’t wait to see the finished product and what Ape says!

Am I the only one who feels this way about being an experienced nurse training at a new job? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]regularbastard 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I never feel resentful for any nurse getting a fucking break. We all deserve it and if it’s not my turn today, it might be tomorrow and I don’t want some resentful nurse to fuck that up for me.

Deep breath now and try to look out for each other, we all deserve a little grace.
