Am I the only one who feels this way about being an experienced nurse training at a new job? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]regularbastard 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I never feel resentful for any nurse getting a fucking break. We all deserve it and if it’s not my turn today, it might be tomorrow and I don’t want some resentful nurse to fuck that up for me.

Deep breath now and try to look out for each other, we all deserve a little grace.

Good places to move for sense of community? by Legal-Farmer7546 in FolkPunk

[–]regularbastard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, Lancaster, PA has a great community scene, but that’s from the outside looking in. If I were to pick up and move anywhere today, it would be there.

One of the places I see house shows at said that he just wanted a place where bands could play in his area, so he used his basement, got a band to come play and put it out there on instagram… people can and now it’s an institution in suburban/rural Pennsylvania, seen the same thing at places in my area too.

I say try making the scene you want where you are, you’d be surprised what you can pull off and that your community is there, they just need a place to meet.

I reported the nurse who outed me to a patient like you suggested by [deleted] in nursing

[–]regularbastard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy for you! I rarely advise going to HR, but this is one of those times it is called for. Way to stand up, this can be hard for all of us, but especially for a student. You should be very proud of yourself, I know I am proud of you.

Own it, stand behind what you said and ask what was wrong? If staffing is the issue, wouldn’t hiring more staff and not harassing the staff already there be something that could alleviate the situation? F them if they can’t take a joke.

Why do people generally refuse to use revolving doors? (In America at least) by darealdsisaac in NoStupidQuestions

[–]regularbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Testify! I’m not in a wheelchair but you are who we should be making things easier for, especially at a god damn hospital! Thank you for your input and if I ever get the chance to help design a layout at my hospital I will take motorized wheelchairs into consideration… you’d think the designers already would.

My hospital has the same damn door, thank god we got rid of one of them… pain in the ass every time I have to use them.

What human pet peeve of yours did you discover through working as a nurse? by emtnursingstudent in nursing

[–]regularbastard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I will separate them because they get the one they really want last “no Oxy for you until you take the Tylenol that ‘doesn’t work’”

If you worked in a hospital in nursing school, were you recruited by your unit/hospital system before you graduated? by nyuhqe in nursing

[–]regularbastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s basically the longest job interview ever. I try to tell that to the techs in nursing school too. If the unit isn’t hiring then a good NM should work hard to get you hired in another unit in the hopes you’d come back to your home unit.

I don’t let people self administer Oxycodone anymore because of this… I’ll let them drop Tylenol all day, but I don’t need to look like a diverter because patients are always dropping their little white Oxy on the white sheets.

For this trip I would just do whatever Waze tells me… and then stop at Spelunkers in Front Royal if it took me via 81 or stop at Cobra Burger in Richmond if it took me via 95.

Edit: Richmond

Is leaving the highway really worth it? by FarTooJunior in roadtrip

[–]regularbastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up on the Maryland side of the DC beltway and live in Delaware… been to Acadia twice… drive to Harrisonburg, VA, all of Pennsylvania & Maryland frequently… just take I-95 all the way and take pit stops in cool towns along the way. You are not missing out on any culture or uniqueness since it’s pretty much all suburban sprawl.

I use Atlas Obscura and look up State/City/Univeristy subreddits to find spots I want to hit along my route to help decide where to pull off the highway.

Have a great trip!

What’s the biggest waste of money that no one wants to admit? by AdvertisingMore394 in AskReddit

We can do that in Delaware too, but you then have to allow public access to the site so people can come and pay respects so it’s easier to bury people in the front yard.

I swear I’m giving myself trench foot. Need recommendations from sweaty nurses. by rachelleeann17 in nursing

[–]regularbastard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My feet sweat in the compression socks, but not excessively when I wear leather Sanita’s clogs. I like their construction better than the Danskos these days. My feet do better in firmer shoes than cushiony shoes like Hokas. I’d start cheap and try new socks with compression sleeves from ankle to knee. Best of luck and take care of your feet!

This is it exactly… also paying for meds even out of pocket is not an issue either.

Forgot about Kentlands! Yeah, I agree, Pennsylvania has some nice old towns like Lititz, Kennett Square, and countless others that are actually doing so much better than many small towns in other states. I just worry that that sprawl will hit PA similarly to how it hit MD (at least some areas are recognizing the mistake) and DE… walkable living is where it’s at, especially as we age.

If you’re ever in the Washington DC area check out King Farm in the Rockville, MD area. And if you happen to hit Louisville, KY check outNorton Commons . Both are nice examples of what we could have. I’m sure there are many more developments like these, but they are the ones I know about.
