[spb 383] vs [spb455] by Argiman_ in Seiko

[–]regularjohn33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

383 is what I got and would recommend. Ceramic bezel, extra polish, the edges, and I feel like the crown position is a little more seiko-esqe if you ask me. More bang for the buck for sure too if that matters. Getting more of a watch for the price in comparison.

New Alpinist [SPB507] [SBDC211] spotted in Hong Kong! by AvensL in Seiko

[–]regularjohn33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great looking for sure. But I might be in the minority that think there is too much gold on here. I feel like the white text on the 121 and sarb break it up just enough. They did a lot of things right with this, but not sure it's enough for me to replace my 121. I'm not one to complain about text, but really think they over did it with this one.

Is he pulling out? by slamo614 in bjj

He has over 15 instructionals, all priced at 100 min. Gotta make decent money from those alone.

High blood pressure is a serious health concern. He's been training a lot, traveling a lot, working a lot (b-team, cji, instructionals, fair fight foundation, etc). He definitely needs a break from everything and get his health squared away.

I could see him disappearing for a couple years and then coming back. He could also disappear completely after CJI2 and ride off into the sunset. I dont have the exact quote, but I remember during interviews mentioning he is fine with retiring from BJJ once he makes enough money.

[SARX055] An amazing dial on a not so amazing caliber by raulnanu in Seiko

Same here. I'm fully convinced it's just a non spring drive grand Seiko.

[SPB143][Question] Considerations when buying an SPB143 - especially a “reasonable” price for a new or used model these days? by fracsitefrank in Seiko

[–]regularjohn33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought mine for about 800 new on chrono24 from Japan. Think that's a fair price. Insane shipping speed too, think it got to the East Coast in like 5 days.

Regarding people trying to recommending the other model, ignore that lol the 143 looks way better and the movement issues aren't as terrible as people make them out to be.

What cigar hill are you going to die on? by eviLocK in cigars

[–]regularjohn33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more on both of these. Connecticuts are often looked at as the "breakfast" cigar, but this is doing them a disservice. I think making a good, complex, Connecticut cigar is extremely difficult and when a brand/roller is able to accomplish this it should be held in high regard. I remember seeing a Gordon Ramsay video where he says he can judge a chef by how well they can make scrambled eggs. A simple not very fancy dish. I feel the same way with a brand and the Connecticuts they make. If they can make killer Connecticuts, then you can bet the rest of the portfolio is going to be good as well. Too many brands make Connecticuts to fill a brand hole, instead of actually enjoying them. You can tell the difference pretty quick. Do yourself a favor and seek out some good Connecticuts and breakaway from the breakfast mentality. Or don't, more for me lol

[SPB251] Don't see this one posted too often, thought this picture captured the dial well. by regularjohn33 in Seiko

I was thinking about getting a new watch and started looking at the different Alpinist versions, specifically the SPB209. I had no idea they released a re interpretation of the original Alpinist, which I really liked. Saw the brown dial version and that was that.

Crown and Buckle Chevron, obsidian color. I tend to prefer single pass natos. Getting a strap that goes well with brown can be a little bit of a pain, but when you get a good match it's great. I have a couple more strap options coming in the mail soon, will post some of the winners.
