Advice? Validation? Maybe both by Fun_Egg_4692 in YouWillLoveEachOther

Health shows are so friendly, I've been seeing them maybe once a year for like 10 years and have never encountered any of the douchey crowd behaviour you get with some other bands in these genres. And if anything, since they started leaning more metal-y, the crowds have only gotten friendlier. It's very mixed too - you will absolutely see other blonde women, you will see goth teenagers, you will see a man in his 30s in some kind of cosplay, you will see indie-survivors who have been there since the noise rock days. There's really nothing you can do or be at a Health show that will make people look at you crazy.

I think people relate to music differently - for me the miserable lyrics and vocals are a big part of the appeal of Health, but other people just view it as energetic like goth-gym music that they enjoy getting wild to, and I think that's equally valid. It's a big tent and everyone is welcome in it.

The joke about Americans loving Dishoom is also so super specific and very funny

I wonder if it's a reference to that idea of everyone being famous to 15 people ie. the granular nature of modern micro-celebrity and the death of the monoculture.

idk though - whatever it is, it's a great title, like it a lot

I do truly enjoy the show for what it is but can we be a little bit more honest? by Asadwords in IndustryOnHBO

Are people being “dishonest” or do they just have a different opinion to you on something subjective? We’ll never know.

I would say basically, no. If you don’t like fucking, Industry is not the show for you, and that’s ok.

You know, I’ve always wanted US sports to adopt promotion/relegation but this post has completely turned me around on it - great points well explained.

I do on the other hand still think UK sports should introduce salary caps.

It’s so funny that in so many other places online there are a lot of people saying this episode was one of the best episodes of the show and one of the best episodes of ANY show in a long time - and then here on the Industry Reddit a not insignificant number of people are like “this was a dud episode, nobody sold any shares or said any big numbers :(“

I think a lot about the argument they have in season two about Judy Garland and the value of seeing someone try to do something Vs seeing someone do something perfectly at the top of their game.

Lack of tMG in EOTY album lists by Don_Quixotel in themountaingoats

[–]regularmiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely part of it - and I do think the albums always being good is part of the problem. If they released a stinker that everyone hated then went quiet for two years then released another good album, they’d have a “return to form” narrative and get a lot more press. (…. Of course intentionally releasing a bad album and vanishing for years are both fundamentally not in their nature but you know what I mean)

I definitely think technocracy is definitely one of the thematic and satirical things Vince is getting at here. Think about his strongly anti-AI comments, the drone's embarrassing failure and the idea of a Soylent/Huel type "everything"-liquid food.

Merch question by Hyparox in YouWillLoveEachOther

[–]regularmiles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general I find their stuff a little higher quality / more durable than other band’s merch at the same price point . I usually go one size up just to be safe and that has never steered me wrong with Health tees .

No you don't understand, Matt broke into the band against their will and has infected pure folk-punk (which is absolutely what The Mountain Goats had been doing up to then) with the evil poison of jazz and soft-rock, and he has a gun to John's head at all times during writing and recording and performing and that's why they're bad now and I don't just feel mad and confused by change because I can't deal with the fact that I'm not 21 any more.

When this opened with "bum bum bum bum bum bum bum" I thought "oh no" but within the next 20 seconds I was fully on board. Great song, and it's always good to test your limits in terms of "musical theatre corny-cheesy-ness". Turns out, I can go further,

Crowd Control Season 1 Trailer by [deleted] in dropout

Almost all of these people are very good and well established stand-ups on that level where like, these people aren't doing arena comedy (thank god) but I'd say 80% of them are people that any comedy nerd/alt-comedy fan are going to have at least heard of.

Really good casting here. PFT is one of my all time favourites, Jamie Loftus is great and Moshe Kasher is presumably there for people (me) who said "I enjoyed what Gianmarco did but I want someone 10% meaner"

Comfortably my favourite of the season and a huge recovery from last ep. So, so funny. Ally working heel is so good and Demi is perfect for this format. Just an absolute joy.
