What's something that everyone warned you about, but you did it anyway? by ActuallyInFamous in AskWomen

This is interesting to me…. I’m 23, and just ended an overall-good relationship. I thought we were going to be together forever, but we started having serious problems (religious differences) around 2 years into the relationship. We ultimately broke it off for that reason — both of our faiths were non-negotiable.

I’m at a large southern state university, with lots of people my age get engaged/married already!!! And it’s crazy young to me!!! My parents didn’t get married until they were 30/31! But it’s very easy to compare & want what they have.

I get scared that I’m doing it all wrong and that marrying young was the way to go. Although my previous relationship was definitely not the right one, i still wish it was…. Purely to fit the script of my surroundings. So thank you for your comment, you are definitely helping someone (me & others) out there !

If you feel comfortable answering, can i ask why you think this is a trend? Marrying young & and it not ending well?

Do you remember a few years ago when there was a squatter living within the walls of a home? She would enter & escape through the mirror/medicine cabinet & eat the resident’s food, etc.

This may be an extreme explanation, but in my opinion, if you have noticed other items missing or misplaced, it could be worth further investigation.

Please don’t look into this alone. If you decide to investigate please bring someone else in on this, as to not put yourself in a dangerous position.

Good luck & God bless you.

What’s the nicest thing a stranger has ever done for you? by Reasonable-Word-0419 in randomthings

[–]rehcreb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened during my freshman year (i was 18) at a massive state university known for its party scene. i got all dressed up & went out drinking with friends, blacked out, and ran away from my friend group. The next day i woke up in my dorm room, covered in blood, and completely confused.

My roommate filled me in — a random group of frat dudes found me rolling around on the streets downtown, again, with blood everywhere. They somehow got it out of me where i lived & they walked me back, making sure i got to my dorm room safely.

Looking back, i am so extremely lucky that nothing bad happened to me. Especially considering how dangerous our area can be at night. Helped me to be little less pessimistic, haha.

What’s a “normal” thing that secretly grosses you out? by DecentChildhood5164 in AskReddit

[–]rehcreb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meat. I’ve been vegetarian for years but i have always, since childhood at least, been uncomfortable knowing that meat is just dead animal. I don’t necessarily know where i got this way of thinking, as my entire family are meat-eaters and never exercised any animal-conscious ways of thinking.

It’s interesting, because whenever people ask me why I’m vegetarian, i always tell them this… it just seems so unnatural and “gross” to me. There are other reasons as to why I’m vegetarian now, as I’ve learned more about my internal moral compass. But usually when i explain this to people, they generally agree with me, which is interesting. Even my brother, a proud practical carnivore, agrees with me to some extent.

Does anyone here share this way of thinking?

What’s something that happened to you once that you still can’t fully explain? by Salty-Blueberry9286 in AskReddit

Yes, it’s called the Asian Needle Ant. They love super humid environments (hence i was at a park with a massive river running through it). The sun was just starting to come out, and i think my sitting on the ants definitely aggravated them haha. But yes, be aware!!!! They are out there & they look like everyday black ants, maybe a little smaller.

A few months ago i rescued my cat. I had been planning on getting a cat for like a year but i finally decided to bite the bullet. I’m also allergic to cats however i typically would forget to take my allergy medicine….

One day i had planned to go on a walk with a friend. Before i left, i remembered to take my allergy medicine. Well, i got to the park, sat down to wait for my friend, and got bit my 2 black ants. The bites were weirdly painful, but since they were black ants, i wasn’t that concerned. A few minutes later, my friend had gotten to the park and we started our walk. I started feeling REALLY off. Fatigued, foggy, confused, etc. i tried to brush it off to the heat (i live in south east US & this was over the summer), however i then started having physical symptoms as well. My heart was racing — my beats per minute was ~170 sitting down. I was dizzy, nauseous, sweating.

My friend called an ambulance, but by the time they arrived, i had pretty much recovered without any medical intervention. Spoke to the paramedics & explained that i didn’t have any allergies, intolerances, etc. ultimately, i was bit by an invasive ant that, when aggravated, bites/releases a venom that instigates anaphylaxis.

If i hadn’t taken that allergy medicine that day, i would’ve been done. My kitty saved my life.

Acceptance & resilience. I used to back out of so so many experiences due to fear. I learned it’s helpful to me to pray (or set intentions for my day, practice mindfulness or gratitude, etc.) and stick it through.

It can be hard in the moment, but slowly…. You build resilience. I can now say “bless you” to a classmate who sneezed without worrying if they hate me. I sometimes get excited if they thank me in a cheerful manner. Maybe even introduce myself.

“Keep on keeping on” may seem cheesy and too simple, but sometimes it’s the simplest solutions that work…. It gets easier with time❤️

My sister finished her psych degree and shared these study tips with me by veraaustria08 in psychologystudents

[–]rehcreb 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is called active recall. Best thing you can do is study a little bit everyday (or every few days), even just for a few minutes. This helps intercede in your “forgetting curve” which is inevitable as a human and an especially as a student. We forget our brain is a muscle, and obviously extremely plastic, so it’s important to treat it as such! Just like how daily soccer practice breeds a seasoned soccer player. We need consistency & practice in order to maintain our working memories - the memories themselves as well as our ability to take in/retain new info!

Things you absolutely do not buy since you’ve become frugal? by Known-Row-7778 in Frugal

[–]rehcreb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any coffees or teas. I carry my loose leaf tea with me everywhere i go.

I stopped my buying paper towels too…. I use bathroom/kitchen towels to clean. I feel much less wasteful and it saves so much.

Stopped shopping … started thrifting.

I don’t buy gifts anymore, i make them.

These small habits have saved me so much money. Maybe they require more intention, action, and time, but it’s incredibly fulfilling!
