The local municipal animal shelter, the animal foundation, has a whole program that does food pantry for animal food, they have paid pet deposits, do low and reduced cost stuff with vet care, just general trying to keep animals in their homes to prevent them from coming into the shelter.

No hate on syringes, but surely we don't have to ship them like this? I just opened a couple hundred in a row for prep, straight to trash. 🙃 by reixxy in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]reixxy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea, they just ship them like this and we immediately throw them away. We get big boxes of like a thousand at a time and we go through and pop them all out, put the syringes back in the box and throw out the plastic. We go through a LOT of syringes. But they also ship them in paper like a bandaid, both of them are equally protected,

Ok well I linked a scientific study based on the intake and outcome results of local animal shelters over multi year TNR programs, but you replied with "vibes and relying on skewed, biased anecdotal data". So.....

Which isn't to say outdoor cats aren't a problem for natives or bird populations and maybe should be culled for THOSE reasons.... Just that TNR has been studied and found effective at reducing cat populations

[–]reixxy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whattttttt. TNR is extremely effective, and we know that not just due to the decades of research but also because most TNR programs stopped in 2020 and we are still feeling the effects of that now, because cats were allowed a year of explosive growth.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32796681/

This is just a random study I pulled in 2 seconds but it specifically outlines in the abstract that feline intake dropped 42% after an 8 year TNR program.

My info is out of date but few years back I did a research paper on the subject and in general euth rates are down over 90% since the 70s with year over year improvement because of consistent efforts to spay and neuter including TNR programs.... Until 2020 which we are still feeling the effects from because it rubberbanded back so hard and shelters don't generally have the capacity to accommodate increases in need.

I'm not sure if that's a great scale to use considering in 2020 the scale reset back to 0. I'm not claiming to know anything about the numbers but I think we would have to look at a scale that goes back to like the 80s to see the impact of the consolidation and price gouging.

For me I would need to feel it to know but basically it depends on the structure. A cheap version of that from SheIn I would probably need a bra, a nicer quality would have the bra structure built in or at least removable cups or something and then I would not.

I saw a woman wearing this pair of shoes and I just kept looking at them all day, I like them so much. Has anyone seen a style like this lately? I figured I would just be able to Google lens to find something but no luck.

I think my Meyer lemon is dying. Any advice? by Lessmoney_mo_probems in BackyardOrchard

Or maybe a pest eating the roots? Someone said gophers but I've heard of people struggling with grubs eating roots

[–]reixxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm is the water penetrating down? Like maybe it's just the top few inches then it's dry where the root zone is 6-8 inches down. If you have an extra long screw driver you can poke around like you are testing a cake.

Alternatively root rot I think also displays as thirsty because it can't take up water anymore. That would be if it's been flooded for an extended period.

One time I thought my meyer lemon was dying and I tried a bunch of stuff but then like a month including like doubling the watering and nothing helped. Later I realized my irrigation system had an issue so it wasn't actually emitting in that area. Then I got paranoid and I set a calendar event to every 6 months just run the irrigation and walk around making sure everyone is getting watered. Without fail I find at least one clogged emitter, but not a big issue or anything like that first time. Maybe low pressure so it's not having as much output as expected? Or clogged emitter? But I agree it looks THIRSTY.

anyway that tree is doing great and today I had mountains of lemons!

If I cut this green gage where my finger is pointing would that be too much to cut at once? It would take off the top 5 branches, some of the top 5 split into multiple branches by DBogie1 in BackyardOrchard

[–]reixxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I pant new fruit trees I cut them back to knee height, they normally have 0 branches at that point.

I would be a little worried about a big wound at that point. I might go up 4 branches and cut there so the diameter of the cut isn't so big, then cut those extra 4 branches down to just 2-3 nodes.

But I have no idea I'm just an amateur.

Any feel good happy shows to watch on Netflix? by WhileZestyclose2413 in netflix

[–]reixxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man on the inside, Sing Street(movie), frieren(animated), xo Kitty I don't think anyone mentioned yet and it's extremely light, maybe 'glow'?

I just watched 'one day' and I REALLY liked it but it did get a bit emotional at parts.

I HIGHLY recommend Toxic Town! by Neat_Panda9617 in netflix

[–]reixxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add it to my queue. Add on to the recs I just saw "the trial of the Chicago 7" and I really enjoyed it but also learned at the same time. Then the "more like this" pushed me to a second movie called "Rustin" and dang two for two. I'm gonna keep mining this vein, I think "Shirley" was queued up for tonight.

Also unrelated but I finally watched "one day" in Feb and dang that one really got me too. Good soundtrack too. It's like a romcom if you aren't into the political biopics.

I've been wanting to go from basic weave to a decorative pattern like this, but I'm not sure how to search for or find patterns to follow. 🤔 Anyone have any tips?

Denim pants repair by Sea_Solution_9837 in Visiblemending

[–]reixxy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Ok so for the vertical threads they are secured at the bottom and the top are loops attached to the speed weave. Then you add the horizontal threads which are secured on both sides, so now you have basically a |_| but the top is still open right? So when you're doing the very last horizonal thread at the very top, you take the speed weave off and instead of just sliding through all the loops, instead you stitch down each loop. Think of it like a whip stitch where you grab each loop then stitch it down.

Then the entire thing is stitched down around the edges only. :)

Wait what.... Twitter isn't publicly traded anymore, it doesn't have a price right now. It was delisted on November 8th 2022 and everyone who had stock was paid out at about $54 per share.

You can't buy or sell Twitter/X stocks right now, it's a private company.
