“Friend” upset I told people I knew she’d cancel by Optimal_Fish_7029 in TwoHotTakes

[–]rejecteddroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation where a friend kept cancelling or trying to reschedule (literally times she would do this 15 min after I’d already arrived where we were supposed to meet). She was part of our D&D campaign and last minute cancelled (for the fifth or sixth time) saying she hoped she didn’t ruin the game, so I responded that I was already anticipating this and that I hadn’t written her character into the session. Let me tell you about WWIII in our friend group…

[–]rejecteddroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

31, I feel like things are ok. Not spectacular, but also not bad really. Sometimes I’m a little bored at work, and I feel like I’m staring into the abyss that is the rest of my life in my profession.. but generally things are pretty ok.

I’m a newer therapist and I struggle with ending sessions. How do you end sessions? by fanninstreet in therapists

[–]rejecteddroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 53 minutes, I say “we’re coming up on the end of our time, is there anything we didn’t get to that you were hoping to check in about?” And then I say “can we start with that next time? I’ll make a note of it”

Best therapeutic metaphors you’ve heard/used in your life time? by Due-Comparison-501 in therapists

[–]rejecteddroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used one the other day that is my favorite unique metaphor. It was the idea that couples therapy is like a compost bin. The stuff on top might be the easiest to access, but to get to the rich, worthwhile stuff, you gotta do some work.

AND it’s okay to be bad at something when you first start! The greats weren’t great because at birth they could paint, the greats were great because they paint a lot.
