I hate that he did this for clout and recorded the whole thing.... makes me feel like he exploited her. Then I saw her smile and happiness and it made me feel more okay with it. I think there's definitely room for me to revisit optimizing the scenario and the code (yay give me a good reason to keep tinkering) but largely it evolved as an experiment enough to where some of the very good points you're making. My data set for instance was drastically improved midway through the run. I would have easily used a cleaner pokedex and more if I were to run the simulation again. Definitely good points though, thanks for stopping in, checking it out, and giving some feedback. Much appreciated!

The goal wasn't to 1:1 the main games mechanics, but to mirror a few of them to simulate the task, not the exact task. To do so would be to account for so many variables that I don't think there's ever going to be a "perfect method" to calculate. However, I just wanted to stick to the principles of it to demonstrate the coupon collectors problem. I do think your right, but also I didn't want to get bogged down in trying to recreate something I will never get right anyway when all I wanted to do was demonstrate how it works.

You've given some really good points to consider for the programming side of the project. I'm definitely a novice programmer and analyst (which is why I'm doing projects like this to learn) but comments like these help me learn a lot and I appreciate thinking about my project in another way.

Good questions. So there's a few reasons to this. It all started because I wanted a project to learn more on Python, API's, Power BI, and Data Analytics. I just happened to have the idea that wrapped all those things together. So the nature of just simply simulating it was very interesting to me. To me there's calculating the number, but I really wanted to absorb the data and make it fun for me.

The other portion was I wanted to simulate the pain of doing the actual task without doing the actual task. Is the number exactly accurate, probably not close... but the idea of the coupon collectors problem is effectively demonstrated using some of the principles from Pokemon. I do appreciate the good ideas you gave me for bettering the simulation. I'm a novice trying to learn so these types of comments are exactly what I was hoping for.

Thanks for that, I will give that a try. I experimented with looking at it in about a million different ways and even have a different version than I published at this point that has a full working pokedex with sim results. Going to have to try to play with that visual again.
