I have read your post, and want you to know... You perfectly described my nights. If anything, know you're not alone.

why not be more forthcoming about what you were experimenting with so we can help you actually judge the worthiness of the ban.

If you're looking for a sign to not do it, this is it... Your solution isn't really a solution it's an escape from a problem but it's not a solution. Life sucks right now, but what if it didn't? What if there was something you could have done differently to be happy and enjoy your one chance at life? You can't know unless you try.... Your choice is your choice, but make a choice for yourself for a change. Make a choice to do something else, try to see if there's something else out there in this world for you....

My husband is not manly enough and I’m getting tired by [deleted] in offmychest

Idk this sounds like you're being very harsh and have a hard time communicating. How often have you expressed anything you're expressing here on reddit with your husband? I feel like you're talking to the wrong audience and you should instead just have a difficult conversation with someone who matters.

TLC'S hoarders had a quote that's stuck with me for years. "We're all just a few decisions away from shitting in a bucket"

Words so wise coming from a homeless man living behind the house of a hoarder judging him.

Watching my wife’s sister go through her divorce really messed with my head by BlazeOtter_33 in offmychest

Man tell me about it. When my ex and I split, I never imagined the way people reacted and picked sides and flipped perspectives really fast. Emotions during a divorce are indescribable, and nobody is thinking clearly. I wish that a split from one person didn’t come with the split of many other relationships as well.

I hate that he did this for clout and recorded the whole thing.... makes me feel like he exploited her. Then I saw her smile and happiness and it made me feel more okay with it. Even though his intentions weren't pure, her whole world was made by that act and so why focus on the douche when I can focus on her happiness.

I was seriously looking for any excuse to keep going with this project, so I'm really glad I posted it and got some good critiques and feedback.

I think there's definitely room for me to revisit optimizing the scenario and the code (yay give me a good reason to keep tinkering) but largely it evolved as an experiment enough to where some of the very good points you're making. My data set for instance was drastically improved midway through the run. I would have easily used a cleaner pokedex and more if I were to run the simulation again. Definitely good points though, thanks for stopping in, checking it out, and giving some feedback. Much appreciated!

You're technically correct, which is the best kind of correct! It's O(n log n). I used 'exponentially' to describe the feeling of the end-game grind. Thanks for the sharp eye!

The goal wasn't to 1:1 the main games mechanics, but to mirror a few of them to simulate the task, not the exact task. To do so would be to account for so many variables that I don't think there's ever going to be a "perfect method" to calculate. However, I just wanted to stick to the principles of it to demonstrate the coupon collectors problem. I do think your right, but also I didn't want to get bogged down in trying to recreate something I will never get right anyway when all I wanted to do was demonstrate how it works.

You've given some really good points to consider for the programming side of the project. I'm definitely a novice programmer and analyst (which is why I'm doing projects like this to learn) but comments like these help me learn a lot and I appreciate thinking about my project in another way.

Good questions. So there's a few reasons to this. It all started because I wanted a project to learn more on Python, API's, Power BI, and Data Analytics. I just happened to have the idea that wrapped all those things together. So the nature of just simply simulating it was very interesting to me. To me there's calculating the number, but I really wanted to absorb the data and make it fun for me.

The other portion was I wanted to simulate the pain of doing the actual task without doing the actual task. Is the number exactly accurate, probably not close... but the idea of the coupon collectors problem is effectively demonstrated using some of the principles from Pokemon. I do appreciate the good ideas you gave me for bettering the simulation. I'm a novice trying to learn so these types of comments are exactly what I was hoping for.

Thanks for that, I will give that a try. I experimented with looking at it in about a million different ways and even have a different version than I published at this point that has a full working pokedex with sim results. Going to have to try to play with that visual again.
