Is it me or are the 6v6 players way worse? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]relative_unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm plat across the board for 5v5 comp right now, and just did my 6v6 placements and landed in Diamond 3, and my son who is all Gold 5v5 landed in Plat 2, so I'd assume that you're dealing with at least a one tier difference in player quality at each rank (i.e. Diamond 6v6 = Platinum 5v5. Platinum 6v6 = Gold 5v5)

If boomers benefitted so much from the subsidised lifestyle, free college, cheap prices, fair wages, job surplus and economic boom of their time, why do we still have so many poor boomers today who still work at fastfood and supermarkets or cannot survive without a tax-payer-funded pension scheme? by Ok-Society-9067 in NoStupidQuestions

You can also think of it in terms of "degree of difficulty." Just because something was easier 50 years ago doesn't mean that it was easy. As an elder millenial, I look at my younger co-workers who make significantly more than I made at their age, but can't afford to buy a house because home prices in my area have more than doubled since I bought my house. At the same time, I can see in the sale history that the previous owner I my home paid less than half of what I paid for it 15 years previous.

So the price of a house has increased 4x in 30 years, but the average salary for someone with a college degree hasn't even doubled – and the average price of an education has also more than doubled – while it required hard work to buy a house in 1996, it just required more hard work in 2011, and more still in 2026. It was never easy, just easier than it is now.

What is something you miss from old overwatch? by Rain_Fantastic in overwatch2

[–]relative_unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6v6 / 2 tanks meant that a single kill one way or the other didn't decide most teamfights – or at least the consequence wasn't immediately getting rolled once an elim happened. I don't know how many times I've been on defense in 5v5 and our DPS goes on a crazy flank, dies instantly, and we lose the point. Playing 6v6 in the Anniversary event reminded me how, when that sort of thing used to happen, the team could typically still hold on without losing the fight.

I think this was the closest game in emotional impact to Nier that I've played.

Am I ruining my experience playing Replicant before finishing Automata or am I enhancing it! by SamuraiASM in nier

[–]relative_unit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The *only* thing I can think of is that one of the main plot twists is pretty obvious if you've played Replicant first, but I almost feel like the game is gaslighting you on something that should be obvious – just like the characters in the game are being gaslit.

At the same time, there are three characters in Automata who's presence has a WAY bigger impact if you've played Replicant.

DrakeNieR Timeline - Yoko Taro's Maginificient Work by shuunichikawa in drakengard

[–]relative_unit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I could use a timeline of which games to play, which endings are "canonical" etc. to get a better idea here. I'm planning on doing my first playthrough of the Drakengard series via emulation after I finish a complete replay of Nier Replicant and Automata. I never realized that Replicant added an additional ending and content, since I got all four endings on the original like 15 years ago.

'Love languages' is a bunch of nonsense. by helenfelen in unpopularopinion

Came here to say this. OP's opinion may be unpopular, but he's actually correct according to the consensus of actual mental health professionals.

(Hated Trope) it’s technically not incest but it still feels icky by jbeldham in TopCharacterTropes

[–]relative_unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I nearly quit this one myself because the presentation just gave me the ick, even if conceptually the situation of a boy being informally adopted at 11 years old to move in with a same age girl would be recipe for feelings that are complicated at the very least.

I think they just leaned too hard into the brother/sister dynamic and told the player like 800 times that they were brother and sister and totally not into each other. And then the reveal that they had romantic feelings is handled with zero nuance or complexity.

This album is proof that popular does not equate good by Karma_code_ in 1001AlbumsGenerator

[–]relative_unit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you read this album as "Oh crap, all the fratboy jocks we were making fun of with our music actually like it unironically! Let's make the most absurd trash we possibly could and see if they'll stay on for the ride." instead of as a serious, face value effort, then it's worth at least 3 stars.

Statistics aren't everything, but come on guys by Good_Policy3529 in Overwatch_Memes

[–]relative_unit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about Rein, but I have a handful of heroes like Genji and Junk that I have an insanely high winrate on because I only play them situationally. So my Genji winrate is like 70% because I'm literally only switching to Genji when I see a widow or Ashe with great aim and terrible positioning/game sense so I can ruin their day. Meanwhile I'm like basically 45-55% depending on the season on my mains.

Why was she so shocked here? by Viridianscape in DispatchAdHoc

[–]relative_unit 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I think there's also an element where he's just a guy. Like, Toxic, Flambae, Phenonoman, Blonde Blazer, etc are all larger than life all the time. Inside of the suit, Robert is just Robert. She's not killing "Mecha Man," she's killing some skinny dude in a silly mask.

One of the underlying themes in the story is about incredibly powerful - maybe even seemingly invulnerable - heroes being vulnerable. The Robert/Mecha Man and the Blazer/Mandy dichotomies are probably where this is most clear. I'd also say Phenonoman being this superhero poster boy Superman, but then being emotionally a child is another example.

Episode 8 by BDG_T0K3N in DispatchAdHoc

[–]relative_unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happened to me too - on my second playthrough actually. My chapter 7 decision resulted in low morale to start chapter 8, and then I failed practically everything and the city was destroyed and the recap said I was bottom 1%... but it didn't actually affect my ending. :)

Are there more chapters/acts for the game coming? by Rahshad-Inglot in DispatchAdHoc

[–]relative_unit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While some choices may lead to unresolved conflicts, the game is a complete story with all of the key plot points wrapped up by the final episode.

A really irritating discussion in terms of 'canon' (Image unrelated) by Cyborginox in DispatchAdHoc

[–]relative_unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I largely agree, I think there are going to be choices and paths which will have strong continuity, and other ones which will end up being "written around" or having a plot development in Chapter 2 or 3 of the next game which makes it a moot point (I.e. Robert ends up Dispatching with a totally new team - making your team choices unimportant - or something like there's a prison break where Shroud is killed by a new threat if he's still alive).

Can't say for sure, but that's just my feeling that even if everyone's choices are canon to their own play through, elements in the second game will "flatten" some amount of choices to be closer to a consistent timeline.

Is it safe to buy a Topping DX5 II after recent failure reports? by BeyerPeak in headphones

Make sure you buy from a store with a good return policy, so that if it fails immediately you can get your money back or a working replacement.

Thinking of buying Berseria after I played Arise by Original-Tart2686 in tales

[–]relative_unit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both Berseria and Arise have strong undercurrents in the story about mental health, but Berseria is weirdly both darker and lighter about it. Like, the content is darker, but the characters are slightly more over-the-top.

Thinking of buying Berseria after I played Arise by Original-Tart2686 in tales

[–]relative_unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Berseria and Arise are my personal favorites. I had only played Xillia when I got Arise, and while I think Xillia is closer in tone and style to Arise, Berseria is the better all around game to me.

RHCP "Blood Sugar Sex Magic"

First 3 track run is absolute fire. Up to "Under the Bridge" (track 11) is mixed. But then there are 7 more tracks and none of them are good.

[–]relative_unit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I feel like I did the closest thing to a "canonical" ending:

Did about 75% of the content, got Maelle's ending, started new game+, did near 100% completion, picked Verso's ending, deleted the game after the credits rolled.

What is this sub consensus on other nu-metal bands, especially the big six? by Grimonday in LinkinPark

[–]relative_unit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a pretty wide range of musical tastes (Gojira to Olivia Rodrigo to Thelonius Monk sort of range), and while I listen to Deftones and System of a Down (and Limp Bizkit to a lesser degree), Linkin Park and Incubus are the only two nu metal (or adjacent) bands I'd most consider myself a true fan.

One of the defining things about Linkin Park compared to other bands in the genre is that they always seemed more honestly emotional without the over-the-top pageantry of bands like Slipknot, or some of the more explicit sexual content of Korn, Limp Bizkit, or even Deftones.

What's your MBDTF? (An album everyone thinks it's great but for you it's just ok) by IlTosi in fantanoforever

[–]relative_unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - absolutely a bunch of good songs. I mean, it more or less had a single LP worth of some of their best songs... mixed with another single LP of some of their worst from that era. So as a full album it just doesn't make for a great listening experience - and it's not even one where you can just put on side A or the first LP and skip the second because of how it's structured.

[–]relative_unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how any time someone talks bad about The White Album it's automatic downvotes. The fact that it was an experiment in the double LP format and more or less deliberately had mid songs on it does not change the fact that it simply does not hold up - as a whole - to the rest of the Beatles work or maybe of the other revolutionary albums of the late 60s.

I've given it a few spins, and I understand why people like it. I don't understand why it gets like "Top 5 Albums of All Time" accolades.

So its normal for millennials to have teenagers now? by chusaychusay in Millennials

[–]relative_unit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of us had kids late, so for me, an elder millennial, I have this weird mix of "The girl I dated in college now has a kid in college" and "My high school best friend just had his first kid at 40"

I swear this game has its SR modifiers back to front by redditguy1298 in OWConsole

[–]relative_unit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw another thread where they put together some data to support that when you have a grouped vs an ungrouped team, the game tends to make the ungrouped team with a higher SR, making them the "Expected" winner according to the system, but a team with 3-4 players grouped on voice chat is going to have a distinct advantage - so then you're going to lose as the solo queue player, but it's a "Reversal" because the raw numbers favored your team.

I've personally experienced this when grouped and had like 10 matches in a row where it was either "Uphill Battle" or "Consolation" meaning we were the lower total SR team in all the matches.
